This feels like an after-school special in the making.

*hugs Uchip*

edit: If animated avatars were available, I'd definitely say to use that one. Cute face.

Thread title should be changed to FurryGAF |OT| *hugs Uchip*

I know, and it's still too squat even for chibi/SD.

You still didn't answer me because I know one of your friends has a bunch of buff "beast warrior" cards in his deck

that was hitos doing? lol
I made a bunch of Mik avatars a while back and was going to give one to Lafiel if he didn't meet his self-imposed deadline to finish MLP s1. He finished on time and so darkside wanted to use it instead. He backed out after a day, though, and it wasn't until later that it came back as something that was "forced".

to be fair I don't really pay attention to my 'friends'.

Joey is a furry though if that's what you're insinuating.

I'm more of a human female/anthro(muscled's ok) coupling. That's what my friend likes and I agree with her thoughts on it.

thats because its harder to maintain femininity with anthro
good luck finding male human with female anthro that doesn't resemble bestiality...

I think it's the other way around but that's just me.

how is it the other way around iyo?
beast men are exactly that, and werewolves etc have been around forever
it just kind of makes more sense that men are monsters

a lot of "female" anthro characters look kind of masculine just because its near impossible to keep things like human lips and smooth skin in the process

Instant Anthro Girl: Just add tits.

unfortunately true

wrong, I've found some good ones. You gotta look harder past all the garbage

I love the sequential art and twokinds comics, they work
nothing else does

Not really, considering most fur looks like spandex anyway.

Lips are also not the norm in anime/anime-like art so that's not an issue.

Femininity is in the eyes, the curves, and the general shape of the outline. Round/smoothness/soft edges = girls, squarish/roughness/hard edges = guys.

if that's true where's your avatar's chest?

its... in the rest of the image
and its not porn if thats what you're asking

You know as well as I do that people will give them mostly animal facial features, and I dont care how feminine the shape is
If they look like a dog, they're not feminine.

uh huh.

Yeah Joey. He's a furry.

I think it's more to do with fiction with animals being male as default, that's why you have to add some feminine characteristics to a character to make it look female.

Speaking of which I've yet to see female scalies other than dragonesses but I've seen female dragons and they're good.

Uh... okay?

I don't see gender as a particular problem in furry art, anymore than it is in anime or whatnot. Except for when people go for a really androgynous look, I can distinguish gender from faces/style.

what about female nagas?

Style lends itself to more rounded and smooth appearance without extra hair. That said, there are a lot of subtle cues that are used.

which style? im kind of confused by this post

But most people in this thread dont count anime style as furry iirc "its basically human with different colour"
im basing this entirely on the stuff that does count

Example, obviously male:
Cues: Large rectangular snout, short hair spiking up, thick simple eyebrows, small eyes, no eyelashes, thick neck

Just going by the face, it could be a very feminine male but I would say female:
Cues: Small sharp snout, long eye lashes, large kawaii uguu eyes, thin eyebrows, thin neck, really fluffy hair

Now, Mik is one example where I had some confusion identifying gender. She comes off as a girl at first glance, but I had suspected trap because of too much cuilan.

If you were to put a big shadow over her chest Blood-C style the cues all point in one direction.

i dunno
the only thing that makes the second one really girly is the eyelashes

Well it's about subtlety, not obvious indicators.

If you're unconvinced that's fine but conveying gender in the face is a basic artistic skill, not just in furry art but in illustration in general. As you move away from realism that skill becomes more and more important.

Her face still has that kind of androgynous look going on though.
Oh that pic loads. Anyway, yeah, gender ambiguity is part ofthe character, but that specific pic is by another artist as I recall.

I also meant areas below the midsection too.
