$5-600 makes the RT model competitive with iPad. Anything under $1k for the Pro makes it a real rival to MacBook Air. This could get interesting.

I've never given a shit about tablets before, and I want this thing. It will probably be too expensive for me, but the least I can hope for is that it influences other makers to make more fully featured devices.

I'm guessing Microsoft wants to gauge excitement before committing to a price. People seem rightfully impressed so I could see $499 for the base model and $999 for the "Pro" Intel version.

I don't really understand the point of the RT model. Why even bother with it? The Pro version is the real hotness.

Unless the RT model is REALLY cheap.

Interesting POV as mine is the exact opposite. the RT model is the only one that has a chance to sell to someone considering a tablet and isn’t already 100% sold on the ipad this fall.

the Pro version is for a subset of people that need/want pen support and need to run legacy windows apps. it’s an impressive piece of tech but it’ll be much more expensive and won’t sell nearly as much.

Pretty cool stuff. I can't find how much memory the x86 version has. Pretty damn thin and light ultra book though. We'll see how the keyboard works, but it is a pretty neat out of the box idea. Still think Win8 direction is a clusterfuck though. There is going to be a lot of confusion between the ARM and x86 version.

"HOW YA LIKE ME NOW?! fuckers."

Looks amazing but they will of course throw a big turn off into the scenario. Knowing MS even their lowest model will be more expensive than a iPad.

I don't think competitive ARM pricing is competitive with iPad pricing.

Anything less would create a rather large disparity between Pro and RT.

Even iPad vs. Ultrabook pricing is a pretty big disparity.

I think anyone expecting cheaper ARM based tablet pricing is going to be disappointed.

I guess Microsoft is gauging the market and seeing what dumbasses are willing to pay for this thing.

HEY MICROSOFT,

$1.

Yeah, I didnt get a clear message on who they're exactly targeting with this thing. Idea is probably to compete with both and assume that this device can serve you as both your tablet and your (only?) home PC. It's pretty ambitious.

Surface (32GB): $499.99

Surface (64GB): $599.99

Pro Surface (64GB): $799.99

Pro Surface (128GB): $999.99

I am totally getting a Pro Surface as long as the cheapest model doesn't surpass $900.

wow, I'll happily chow down on my crow for saying this would be a big fat nothing. Can't believe MS kept this whole thing a secret.

Tablet form factor with a keyboard and a digitizer, if nothing else, the google nexus better be fucking amazing or they are screwed.

They probably should have showed someone connecting a 360 controller to it to drive home what a USB port does for gaming, could be awesome!
