The 700 one is a HDD.
?Acer Aspire S3 is the first ultrabook with the option of enormous hard disk storage, as well as the instant-resume performance and fast response times of a solid state disk.

I think it will catch up much faster than any other platform has.
The genious behind WinRT is that it's in both Windows RT and in Windows 8. That's not just tablets, but in laptops and desktops as well. Once Windows 8 hits, it will be the only packed in OS available for consumer PC. That gives it an instant userbase. And considering the Windows Store is for WinRT, there will be tons of devs releasing apps for it. It's the first time there's been a unified store for Windows. Since that has great advantages for discovery, devs are quite intrigued when you factor in everything.
your posts have been funny man. for a bunch of reasons. Why does everyone keep saying 2013 release? Isn't Windows 8 releasing this year? I already know most of the other companies out there said they have W8 tablets lined up for launch so it makes sense these ones are also available.
One spec that isn't on any spec sheet is battery life. If its decent you talk about it. If you leave it out it usually means you are hiding something or have no clue.

Colloquy says hi. You can stay on IRC on ios.
Where did you get your information from?
What stupid card? My point was the value proposition that they'll see if they think they need to pay a bunch more to get Office, versus it being pre-installed on RT.Oh I see, you're just going to play the stupid card now. I thought you were actually going to engage in honest discussion, but you want to try to make sense of your initial post by ignoring the fact that Pro owners have access to their previously bought software and have access to lower priced software by pretending that they won't bother to look, therefore it's a $150 cover charge for Office regardless to make it seem like a terrible thing. Gotcha.
Battery life and price.
I imagine they're still frantically optimizing, and trying to nail down the supply chain.
I can stay connected not problem. Something must be up.i got my info from actually using my brother's iOS devices. can't multitask while idle on IRC, you get disconnected in ~10m.
Maybe Ive never been idle long enough?Colloquy on iOS disconnects after a while.

Have fun trying to play anything made after 2004 on the Surface's Intel Integrated graphics chipset.
woo just got up.
Why is this hot stuff? looks like a tablet. What did they show that wowed you???
Eh I am guessing it'll be similar to my wife's Air from last year, right?
Pro is very close in specs and size to Samsung S7 Slate (11.6", 2 lbs, Core i5) , which is $1299 for 128GB SSD.

People need to keep their pricing expectations in check.
Surface RT: $500~800
Surface Pro: $1100~$1200
I'm being optimistic about Pro's price by about $100 BTW.

Why is everybody making a big deal about gaming on the Pro? Most ultrabooks aren't even good at gaming.
The Pro is plainly aimed at business users who travel 75% of the year. The Thinkpad users who wanted an iPad.
Yeah I think people are getting carried away with a false equation that just because it's a full-featured PC it's going to be great for gaming. It's like they suddenly all forgot that you need a really beefy system with discrete graphics to play anything decent. Why is everybody making a big deal about gaming on the Pro? http://www.anandtech.com/show/5968/acers-iconia-w700-tablet-windows-8This thing won't be able to run most steam games. A under clocked i5 with hd4000 would have pretty serious slow down issues.

Looks great and everything, but ... widescreen for a tablet? I recently bought a cheap (like, 150 euro cheap) 10" chinese android tablet. On a whim, just to see if it's something I could actually use and need. I like it ... except for the widescreen ratio. It works great on a TV or a 24"+ monitor, not so much on a tablet, imo.

Why would non-touchscreen windows 8 users, which will be the vast majority of the userbase, care or pay for apps designed for the metro mode that they universally hate (on a non-touchscreen device) or straight up can not use due to not having a touchscreen? The genious behind WinRT is that it's in both Windows RT and in Windows 8. Yeah, but a bit better since it's the Ivy Bridge chipset.

i doubt they would sell this at a loss.can Microsoft absorb some of the costs and sell them at a loss for however long they need to? or does the X-box drag them down and prevent them from adopting a similar model?

Yup for a lot of little indie games it will be great, and the PC's indie scene is better than it has ever been.Well, I was thinking more along the lines of indie games ported to it or made for it exclusively. I'm not expecting to play Max Payne 3 on full settings.
Yes, but Intel GPU drivers and Linux unfortunately don't mix.I wonder if I could but Ubuntu on the Pro. It's pretty much a straight x86 PC right?

Yeah they most likely haven't settled on final specs for the devices. So fair enough. But the price and battery mean a lot.
"It'll be high performance," Rayfield said. "It's a pretty significant bump."
The specs for "Wayne" include a 28-nm quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 MPCore plus an additional low power companion core (4-PLUS-1), clocked at 1.8 GHz for tablets and notebooks. Also thrown into the mix will be 24 GPU cores with support for DirectX 11.x, OpenGL 4.x and PhysX.
i doubt they would sell this at a loss.
I'm thinking more about XBLA gaming and indie games from Steam myself. Those, and whatever app games come out for it, are enough for me. I save real PC gaming for my desktop and GTX 570.
GMTA.
Windows 8 is pretty much made for a wide screen. It is meant to be held landscape.
