I am absolutely enamored with what I have seen for the Sylvari zone so far. Going to be really hard to resist playing it and not spoiling it if they have it in any of the future BWEs.

I still plan on playing a human, but I can't wait to explore the Sylvari area when I can.

I'm slightly more optimistic about the game coming out soonish (coughNovembercough). Haven't been this geeked about a game in a REALLY long time.

I'll be the first to admit that I haven't looked to much into crafting. I dabbled in the basic armor crafting, making items out of jute, but was completely ignorant to how cooking worked.

I'm so bored, with no games to hold me over, I decided to check out some youtube videos of cooking. Holy shit. Whoever designed the cooking craft alone is on a new level. Recipes that all make sense in real life? Make bread, make toast, make buttered toast, make cinnamon toast......and that's just the beginning?

I've been impressed all along with GW2 (maybe a dash of rabid fanboy-ism), but this....fucking amazing.

I'm glad I still have EvE to keep me busy in the mean time, but damn do I wan't this game to come out. So many of my older gaming friends and guild mates are getting into it, people I haven't played with since GW1, cant wait for all nighter WvW to start happening.

If they make male human models more rugged then I would like for the Norn and the Charr to be removed but that is not happening anytime soon, also more chest hair please.
The Quaggan are cute and I would prefer the Kodan instead of the dirty Charr but the uninteresting lore makes more sense for the Charr to be in there.

I'm just glad that the Sylvari look very interesting and I've seen some models for the little bats called Asura that don't look so bad. I want to have one of each race but I don't really want to play as a Charr, don't like their running animation and how they look in armor. Wish I could rewrite the GW1 story and kill all the dirty cats.

A guy pulled this model out of the .dat and then found the texture for it and stitched it:

N6xVe.jpg

Tyria(continent) is WAAAAAAAAAAY bigger than I ever imagined. The amount of space in the world they have is far more than I thought and they could create tons of new lore/races with that much room. Exciting.

Raaar. Now that the Finals are over I spose I'll go back to passing the time by idly speculating in here :D

Don't think I'll be able to play even a little while this stress test :(

How dare you call us little bats!

You think November is optimistic? :/

Yes, these multiposts are inflating the thread post count, making it appear as though we're actually doing something in this thread.

I would also like a few model options that looked like they weren't giant 13 year olds. I want my men to look like men and my women to look like women, dammit.

To anyone who has played the engineer or Mesmer, what are your thoughts on the classes?

From what i can gather, it seems like those two classes, along with the thief, need the most lovin, which kinda sucks for me since engineer and mesmer are the two classes that im most interested in.

even if they need some work done (ive read that engineer's problem is mostly just very low damage and a few useless skills, but the design is solid, while mesmer's design has some issues - which is worrying), are they still fun to play, or are the problems with the two classes just kinda hamper the experience

I really dont care about playing the best/most effective class, so long as i find that class fun

There's a human male face that looks a lot like Clint Eastwood, and in the last BWE it looks like they added a more elderly female face (reminded me of Catelyn Stark from Game of Thrones). I'd like to see a few more in that general direction and a couple more facial hair styles for the guys. More hairstyles overall is hardly a bad thing either.

Please remember that people who run their mouth about balance on the internet are not talking on behalf of everyone! You will see people complaining about all the classes!

Engineer is a great class, it just takes a lot more key presses to pull of the same damage as some of the classes. you need to put more effort into it to excel. But it's capable for sure. There is a very good pvp engineer video that has been posted several times in thread.

Mesmer - People disagree on what mesmer should be contra GW1. Some people want to make it more minion control based ala Necro while others want more options in trait specialization, and others want gw1 Mesmer and others want a variety of different things.

Thief - I think most people wish for more thief weapons. You could also make the argument for Engineer, but Engineer has his kits.

:D

Only a few of the male hairstyles are used. 1,2,3 and 4 are strangely enough the most used styles. there are a few others you see, but lots of them are not being used. i think if they make more styles they need to make some variations of cool styles. perhaps at different lengths.

Good, thats what I want to hear. I want a class that takes some effort and has a ton of flexibility since that is what will keep me interested in the class in the long run

I'm pretty sure I'm going to main a Mesmer at release. Started BWEs/Stress tests absolutely positive I was going Ranger, then I played a Mesmer. The game went from "fun" to "holy crap, it's 11:00 PM?" There are a lot of complaints about the class, because it's the newest/least done (and let's face it, you can't please 100% of people 100% of the time), but I totally agree with you. If the class is fun, I don't really care if it's the "best" at anything. The Mesmer was fun and that was enough!

More hairstyles overall is hardly a bad thing either.

The long wavy ponytail on the female Norn needs to be available for humans.

I stopped plaing my mesmer and switched to Ele because I was not having fun with the pet management. For being a finite resource the damage and debuff/boon lengths feel too short. There is no escape from the pet management, there are no alternative builds and skill sets. The good skills usually had 45 second cool downs so even swapping your two weapon sets you spend most of your game using the boring skills.

Some of the abilities like Chaos storm are awesome in group fights against major bosses.

I was super hyped about mesmer before the beta released. I skipped it over the first BWE so as not to get bored and chose Ranger. After doing a terrible job of playing Ranger I picked mesmer back up second BWE. But I wasn't feeling it and made the jump to necromancer which I played pretty hardcore. This upcoming stress test I'll probably just hop back on my necro since 4 hours isn't enough time to get a feel for mes and I'm gonna venture into PVP some more. I wonder when the next BWE will be though.

I'll be trying out the game for the first time during the stress test, hopefully it's playable...

In terms of latency? The last BWE was rock solid in terms of ping, I didn't encounter a single bit of lag at any point. I do know there were people who were having issues, but it seemed to be an odd ISP thing cause nearly everyone who said they had issues were on the East Coast. The difference in latency from BWE1 to BWE2 was remarkable, it went from pretty much constant high latency to perfect (for me).

Count me in as an excited would-be Mesmer who got starry eyed after seeing the intro video when they announced the class. Sadly, it's not even close to that exciting and I just didn't connect with the mechanic they built the illusions around. After seeing the statements they've made about the class on the official forums, it doesn't sound like they are willing to change any of that, just adjust the numbers on the skills and for that reason I don't think I'll even be considering it for my main class.

Right now it's Ranger, Guardian, or Engineer for me. Really depends on how those classes shake out as we go along here.

The only thing I can see number tweaking doing for me is if the class gets imbalanced to the point of fun.

I havent played it obviously, but something that might help is just getting rid of Phantasms all together. They simply dont seem all that fun (a passive pet that does dmg that you dont want to blow up, but if you dont blow it up your clones are useless, yay!), and i would imagine create a mess of problems with balancing clone dmg/shatter, and shatter conditions.

Yeah, I just don't want my first experience with the game to be soured by lag issues.

Well no one I talked to had any latency issues in BWE2. The stress test before ran really well with an occasional lag spike, but given how well BWE2 ran and there's going to be far less people on during the stress test, so it's highly unlikely you'll have any latency issues.

My problem, and this is endemic to most MMOs, is that they always throw in hair styles that nobody but trolls use. Take the human male, for example; http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Human_male_hair_styles.png

Is anyone going to use 3rd row, 2nd column? The enormously comical 70's Afro? Why isn't there a hairstyle that's afro-like without being a HUGE LIGHTBULB? The last one in the third row, the goofy mohawk? Plus, how many surfer-looking Bieber cuts do we need (I count 5).

And yet there are only one or two that are more than shoulder length (one with silly looking braids). Only one with anything that can be called a pony tail. As for facial hair, how many douchebag staches does the game need? There's 3 of them in there. Where's a proper goatee that sticks down? Is the handlebar mustache really necessary?

This has been my problem with every MMO; they include options that nobody ever ever ever chooses unless they're trying to be silly or obnoxious. This goes double for females having tons of mohawks and shaven heads. Ugh. Lots of very short hair styles too, and maybe one or two that go past the shoulder (and one of them has that obnoxious 60's haircomb/bandanna/whatever in it).

The long wavy ponytail on the female Norn needs to be available for humans.

Exactly. Why the hell isn't that an option?

It's a stress test, I wouldn't be basing your opinion of the game on such a short and possibly server-restart filled experience. Next BWE should give you the real McCoy.

That's just it, apart from maybe the first two hours of the first BWE (which they fixed lightning-quick) the game really hasn't had much in the way of latency issues. Performance issues yes, but server wise, this game is pretty solid.

I think I might actually spend some time next BWE making my characters, I pretty much just change some dye colors and go for the past BWEs. Depending on how WvW turns out in the stress test I might actually really check out the character creator.

I understand, I've been playing mmos since 2001. I didn't really mean I was going to judge the game because of it, I just want a good first experience is all.

Given that WvW really won't have much time to get going in the space of 5 hours (or is it 6?), I'd just tinker with character creation. Remember to screen cap your settings so you can reproduce them later.

I'm likely going to spend a ton of time in there at launch... probably an unhealthy amount. And I know I'll probably bow up a bunch of characters before they get too far in the game too, because I'll find something about them I don't like.

I guess I should clarify, I was speaking of forming an opinion as a whole on the game from a 4 hour stress test event, not just an opinion on the performance of the servers. I agree that the server tech appears pretty rock solid now and really shouldn't be anything to worry about.
