To block with it you do need to pay the full cost so that Flash doesn't sacrifice it immediately. And bring it in during the period of the turn after attackers are declared where both players get to play instants.
 
He's not trying to claim that he can "evoke" it with Flash to block before it sacs itself, right? Because that's total bullshit. But if he actually flashes it in (i.e., he pays the extra cost), he can bring it in after you declare attackers as a surprise blocker.

I love both of these cards...very different reasons but I love them both.

M13 is shaping up to be a damn good set. I'm pretty hyped!

He was claiming, under pre-6th Edition rules, that he could cast it while declaring his blockers to get around the sac effect. My issue was being able to ever cast instants in the middle of declaring blockers in the first place.
 
I'm going to be buying a playset of the elf with bears lady and that's about it so far. I like Slumbering Dragon from a flavor standpoint, but he's unplayable.

I don't think you could even play an interrupt while someone is/was in the midst of determining how they are going to block, let alone an instant.

I like Slumbering Dragon from a flavor standpoint, but he's unplayable.

It depends on how you're looking at him, great pressure for one mana or a bomb/win condition. He's never going to be terribly useful as a finisher.

He's a good one drop in Limited, almost no question there (although he'd become "bad" if he cost even 2 more). Constructed...eh, I was going to write this off, but on reflection I want to see if there's a R/G strategy to pump him up to five counters quickly and have a 8/8 flier by turn 4 or so.

Slumbering Dragon continues to gain +1/1 counters everytime you're attack or your planeswalker. It can grow way bigger than 8/8 if it lives anyway.

I'm definitely planning to try something like this, especially with all the great counter stacking in INN block, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up. I'm actually thinking about trying him in R/U and getting hexproof up on him or something, getting a card like that flicked is so damn frustrating.

He is a fucking beast vs. white weenie, provided they aren't packing cloudshift or resto angel...even then I like him a lot for pressure. There are a lot of aggro weenie decks in my play environment, so I'm looking forward to getting him in the mix. He's a decent counter for Thatcher too, come to think of it.

edit: if I'm reading the card correctly you can use him to block as soon as he has 5 +1/+1 counters...he can block that turn, right? Seems like it.
 
The new Merfolk lord is a reference to old school Merfolk of the Pearl Trident, might be my favourite spoiled card so far solely because of that.
Goblin lord needs to reference Mons Goblin Raiders!
 
That dragon makes a lovely target for Conscripts. :D

On a side note, how lame have prerelease & release promos gotten of late (besides Mayor and Restoration Angel)? Xathrid Gorgon, seriously?
 
The Shieldmate is good, but I wouldn't run with the Curse. I'm looking at going either R/G/u and splashing for the Shieldmate or R/U/g and splashing for Increasing Savagery, but the GG in the latter is pushing me towards R/G/u
 
Yeah I think if you're going to be accruing your counters yourself you are better off splashing blue for the reason you describe. The shieldmate isn't 100% necessary for the card to work anyway, the counters are.

I ran Curse of the Nightly Hunt in my red vamp deck a couple weeks ago, and I was surprised how effective it was for counter accrual. Highly underrated card imho.

Also no. All blockers have to be assigned simultaneously, so when you cast the Cloudshift you're losing your chance to assign "more" blockers

No, for the same reason described above in the pre-6th Ed. question: you can't play an instant while blockers are being declared. By the time you can play cloudshift, all blockers have already been declared.
 
Found some of my bros old cards, and found 3 dual lands. Pretty sure they're not aha or beta, but they are probably revised or unlimited.

Depends on which lands they are, for one thing, as some color combos are more valuable than others. You'll get a lot of price variance between revised and unlimited, too, and based on card condition. Could be anywhere from $25-$100+ per card depending on these factors.

There is an enormous demand for them. eBay has it's own issues, but a hobby shop will normally give you only a percentage of what they're worth. Considering what they are, a good shop should give you around 75 percent value on them.

Other options are MTG sites, Reddit and, well, here.

The biggest problem with ebay for stuff like Magic cards is someone can dispute the sale based on a subjective examination of the card's condition and cause you all sorts of headaches. Personally I'd go with a FLGS over ebay, but there are better options.

I disagree. eBay is the last refuge because of the large number of scammers and the zero protective policies for sellers. eBay is fine if you're buying - it's terrible and dangerous to sell through.

I've dumped about 200 junk rares and received like $30 in trade credit at my local cardshop. Not like anyone was going to pay me anything for that stuff anyway nor was I going to use it. I'm quite happy with my Snapcaster and Restoration Angel instead of a box of crap.

What kinda price are you guys getting for M13 box preorders? I haven't been able to find a good deal...

I wont be buying any boxes this time around but normally we would buy a case between us and then split the bill. It usually ended up making boxes come out to about 90 each, sometimes 85 if we got a good deal from the shop we ordered through.
Otherwise starcity seemed to always have a decent pre-order price.
