The premise, a couple of amusing misdirections in some season premieres...
Well, the writing is mostly shit.
So are your complaints.
I know it sounds crazy, but some still think the show is actually good!

Oh yeah, forgot to post here when I finished the show (a few days ago).
Overall really loved it. I wish I had watched it as it was airing, I can only imagine how fun the community aspect to it was.
The only real downsides to it were seasons 4+5. I just didn't care for them. It picked back up in Season 6 though, which I really liked. And dat ending :*(.
Now I feel sad because there is no more Lost to watch. I can only imagine how you guys watching it over 6 years feel, I only spent 3 months watching the whole thing.

But yes, Lost was a stupid mess of a show. Man, we could even discuss that if you could stop with the lazy "oh you troll" defense for a second there. Wouldn't that be great.
Let's be clear so we all know what you're really doing here (at least based on the last few pages I've read). We're going to look at the difference between dialogue, discussion, and debate, then hopefully you'll know which one you're engaging, and why it is silly (and "trolling").
o Dialogue is two or more parties exchanging ideas, looking at things from each others POV, and understanding each other.
o Discussion is a thinly veiled debate. Pretend to play nice, smile, but in the end you still wanna be "right".
o Debate is a game of "winning". Subjective topics have no place in a debate, as you won't change someone's thoughts, particularly not after 6 seasons + the following years.
You're essentially crapping on someone's right to an opinion for your own self gratification. You go around in circles until you can make someone "quit" so you can claim "victory". It is, in a nutshell, trolling. I just don't see why you can drop it and be a normal person instead of a silly Internet personality.
Man, I had no idea the word "discussion" was so loaded...
The show was profoundly stupid and horribly written. Demonstrably so. We're not talking favorite colors, here.

The writing does not have to be a factor at all in someone's enjoyment of the show, just like lyrics don't need to contribute to someone's enjoyment of music, the soundtrack doesn't need to contribute to someone's enjoyment of a movie, etc. If it were a novel, then you'd have a much better time arguing that the writing kind of needs to be paramount in someone's personal evaluation. But not with TV.
People like things for different reasons. So yes, it's still quite subjective.
Also for the record, I don't think you've managed to convince a single person in this thread, out of the hundreds who have come in and read your posts, to change their opinion about Lost. Your persistence is indeed admirable.

I haven't seen many others in here trying to bring up the writing when you chime in with a negative comment, it's normally something else (general enjoyment, a specific scene or character, random musings, etc) (oh and you don't need to respond with a wall of links, I'm not saying it's never happened).
Seems to me that you're in here for more than just criticizing the writing.
Yeah you're right, it's probably closer to 1000 people I guess.
My favorite thing about watching Lost weekly (I started weekly after S2 but wasn't on GAF until S5) was the theorizing. On the go theorizing is cool while marathoning, but when you're on day 6 of your wait for next weeks episode the creative juices really start going.
I wish I could pass a magnet over my brain or something and forget about Lost. I'd choose it above all other shows to go into fresh again.

i've been watching through lost again with my parents the past few months (their first time through) and my dad just bailed last night. we were watching the first episode of the 4th season (my favourite season by far) and he just got up and left. he had really enjoyed everything so far. i went up to him after my mom and i finished the ep and asked him what was up. he said he was sick of watching it, yet has continuously watched stargate every fucking day for years. it's so infuriating lol. i wanted it to be something for us to have as a family thing before i move out this fall, but i guess he doesn't see it like that or doesn't care about me moving away. watching through the show together has been the only real time we have spent with each other in a long time.
anyways, this is my second watch of lost and i am loving it. it's got problems, but man it's great. i attribute most of the problems to the fact that it's a major network show.

I love watching Lost with people. That's the only way I could have seen it as many times as I have.
My one failing was getting my grandmother to watch it. She loves stuff like SG1 and BSG and Doctor Who but I couldn't get her to watch Lost. We're so alike in tastes so it always bothered me that she wouldn't. At least you got him to S4. If she would just watch the first half of S1 I know she'd love it.
