Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

The number one thing I want improved in GW2 is more information on ability and trait descriptions. How much more range do I get from this trait? How much adrenaline do I gain from this skill? How much might does this give me? I need numbers, dammit! I can't make an informed decision without numbers. And the wiki doesn't even have this information.

A lot of the numbers are there, including adrenaline amounts. As for stuff like Might, that won't ever do you any good on the wiki because Might has a formula:

0.375 * Level + 5 Power per stack

Anyways, some time back they said the tooltips aren't even close to being finished and they want to work on them a lot.

Not sure if this is old news but you can order the collectors edition now from amazon.co.uk for £107.

Better hurry before it is gone.

Has there been more info on what the "final" limit to which you could increase the guild space is?

I swear they said in the past that the limit is HUGE. However, what we do need to know is how you obtain the higher caps. They said they're doing something so guilds can obtain it, but haven't said what. It isn't Influence is all we know.

so someone is keeping track then of new people getting added in as time goes on then? I just was curious because I just asked to be added in and I'm hoping that means for the release as well as the next BWE

Yep, that's how it works. ;) If you don't get added within a few hours of the next BWE, just mention it again in the guild thread. :D

Did we come up with any determinations on what to do regarding the guild cap/overflow/etc?

Discussed in the Podcast. Coming Soon™

Our basic plan is, see what the requirements are to raise the cap and try to powerlevel it as best we can. Until then, we may have to deal with being in two guilds temporarily.

If you've added your username and #addme to the community thread, Ferny usually goes through every once in a while and adds everyone. Might be a mess at first, so post here during the BWE or track down a GAFer (they're everywhere, look for GAF or GAFT in game) and tell them you need an invite.

Got my days off for the launch and BWE (living in Japan means I get to play the BWE from Satudary morning to around 3 pm on Monday).

I'm really stoked for the game and can't stop reading about. I have pretty much read everything in the wiki as it stands now.

My major concern for the game is that dynamic event boss fights can become time-consuming spamfests when there are more than 10 people participating. This can still be fun the first time, but I'm worried it could become boring if I am doing it at level 70. The fights just seem to turn into zergs with people spamming attacks. The giant DE in the Dissea Plateau is a good example.

Thankfully my hype has kind of dropped off a bit due to Day Z, Witcher 2 and real life keeping me occupied. I check this thread once or twice a day to see what's happening and just to lurk a bit compared to before release date announcement where it would be every 10 minutes. I think the release date has given me some kind of closure, i mean i'm still immensely excited for release, just now i know when that is i can enjoy other games more. heh. Last week running up to early accsess i'm going to explode, though. :P

"What's the quickest way to powerlevel a pet in GW1?"

I saw a youtube video of AFK death leveling pets to 20 in the Zaishen Menagerie in 15 minutes.

Just dug this up about guild sizes... it's from last August.

More importantly:

Q: Whats is the maximum number of people in a guild?

A: At the moment there is no hard limit, but if ever decide to create a limit, it will be larger than the GW1 limit.

this guy is/was a programmer at Anet...It's old so a lot has changed...just trying to verify that they did at one point say the limit was going to be huge.

Someone asked ANet support about what time the headstart would happen and this was the response:

Hi there!

It will indeed be starting on the 25th, but we don't have a 100% locked in time yet. Hopefully it should be at midnight yes, but we are not completely sure yet. It will just depend on how smoothly everything goes in preparation for launch. However once we do have a time locked in it should be posted on the main site http://www.guildwars2.com/, the blog http://www.arena.net/blog/, our Twitter http://twitter.com/#!/guildwars2, and our Facebook https://www.facebook.com/GuildWars2. .

Hopefully that clears up the issue for you, but should anything else pop up; please don't hesitate to hit us up. Thanks so much for your time and you have a great day!

Regards; Chase

Holy shit... that's gonna be nuts. I wonder what level my Asura Thief is gonna be when the game "launches"

Midnight. Midnight. Oh god.

Thankfully that's a Saturday or I would be thrashed for work.

Hadn't thought about PST. I'm in the same boat as you then.

I really wish Labor day was the 27th of august. Im probably going to need a recovery day after that weekend

Quoted for Truth. When we were getting stomped in WvW, I asked /team for volunteers to form a raiding party just to harass supply camps. No objective other than to sweep in, take the camp, and rush to another one.

Not only did we have a LOT more fun and generate a lot more Karma / XP / Gold, but while we were doing it we also scouted locations for a larger group that was roaming about doing the same thing to towers. I can't say we were totally responsible, but while doing this the towers we had fought for didn't come down the entire time. I think the hit-and-run tactics, being an invisible force of aggression, may have pulled attackers from the front, thinking that there was a huge zerg moving around when, in fact, it was never more than 5 guys.

We also helped to throw up a LOT of siege equipment, because we were constantly capturing supply points, we always had some to spend, and it didn't affect anything because 6 minutes later we'd be across the map raiding another camp for more.

I think a quick, organized team, capable of seemingly-random strikes from anywhere (we used the lake for cover so much we were probably impossible to track) can really throw off an aggressive team. A couple working in tandem, dumping supply off where a larger group is setting up siege, could be lethal.

And we were all melee too, if I recall.

Oh, I know. I was just referring to the point where he said he didn't want to be a supply runner.

You can't expect to be Billy Badass and evade all that AOE though. I've evaded through dodge AWAY from AOE, and you're more suited in sniping targets that are doing ranged and not noticing you anyway. That's still a hell of a lot of fun. They turn around and are like OH SHIT MELEE fuuuuu

These are all great points. I know that it won't matter all that much of my class if I have a fun group to roll with a majority of the time but I also want to just enjoy screwing around. I think I'll play Melee as my main since it's what I know the most and am most effective at, and just have a ranged class to fuck around with when not in a group.

My biggest problem is to stop thinking of this like WoW or WAR or Aion ... where I have to level to the max to have fun in PVP. It really is making me think of how I play these types of games in general.

I'm going to try my best to finish the Factions campaign at least before release to get some extra points in my HoM. If I can at least clear that out and get a few pets from that, I'll be happy.

What's the simplest/easiest armor to buy for your heroes? I've been searching through wikis online but can't parse out which might be the least time consuming. Anyone have tips from experience?

Brotherhood cloths are the easiest to buy from other players. I see them going for around 5k a piece since everyone is AFKing Glints. That's much easier than trying to get anything else and cheaper. If you can setup the afk Glint farm then that makes it even cheaper and easier plus you get dcores to sell to other people.

Death Leveling

If you have the equipment to set it up that's great and quick AFTER you get all the equipment. My advice is if you are farming something, have a campaign to finish or if you are vanquishing just bring the pet with you by giving up a skill for the heal pet skill(can't remember name). This is what I did and I got my phoenix leveled that way. Getting that death level thing setup was time consuming as well as cost some money which I needed for other HoM things.

It's a vampiric weapon + like 1k for the armor set.

So 3AM EST. No sleep for me.

Did anyone really plan to sleep that night anyways?

I definitely plan to be up, if only to snag a couple names I want. I'll sleep during Tuesday maintenance er... I mean... patch day er...

Play what's fun. Screw everything else. I'm planning to main a Warrior, with a Guardian Alt... and an engineer alt... and... a.... yeah, I'll probably end up with one of everything.

I just found a pretty good crafting guide for beginners, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFU_b4e2bxU maybe someone else will find it useful.

That was quite good. If that discovery bit hasnt/wont change, thatll be the strat that i will be following once i level a craft

He also has a part 2 and part 3 crafting guide as well. Watching 2 now

I like the going to be at 7 plan and waking up at 3. We will see if I can actually pull that off, lol

I'll probably end up just grabbing a bunch of character names and then going to bed. Then the wife and I can wake up early and tear into it like Christmas Morning.

An alarm clock is something I loathe. The 25th of August will be an exception. 2:30 to rise. Pop that No-doz, make some grits, and spam the log in button.

So what about a GAF meet up for the headstart? Essentially a launch party in real life as well? That could be awesome.

Almost done Prophecy. Only the end of Nightfall and a bit of Prophecy left before it's money farming time.

You still have War in Kryta :D. I was working on it over the weekend, its a lot harder than the campaigns. Decided to take a break and actually get my heros some skills/elites.

And then after I get them situated, its time to kick the White Mantle in the balls, get my Oppressor's Weapon and then work on Luzon/Plat farming for that armor. D:

Tooltips do not reflect traits as of now, do they? I remember getting a trait that reduced signet cooldowns by 25% and it didn't show it on the tooltip. Or am I insane? What I really want to know is how much range I get from Stronger Bowstrings.

So after boarding the hype train and gathering as much info on the game as possible, I am 90% sure I will be getting the game, even though I won't have that much time to play it. I love the fact that there's no subscription fee because otherwise with the amount of time I'll be able to play it wouldn't have been worth a subscription. Unlike other MMOs I have played, I will be playing this one much more casually. Also, due to very cramped living spaces in college, I won't have a desk to play the game on normally, so my bed with a controller would be perfect if possible. I already have xpadder and motioninjoy, so is there a possible way to map all of the important buttons for this onto a controller or is a controller too limited? I'd basically prepurchase the game right now if I knew I could successfully use a controller with it.

This is me as well. I just want my names. I mean, I'll likely be playing like a dumbass for hours and hours, but the most important objective: Get my fucking names.

EDIT: I think I have watched every single GW2 related video at this point. Damn, I'm jonesing bad here.

Ditto. I'm rolling a Charr Warrior for my main - don't care how bad melee is in AOE infested WvW - I'll find what works with him and play to his strengths.

What? You don't get the statue after the undead lich?

Personally, I like the whole idea of just doing hit and run attacks on certain areas than joining some massive AoE shitfest

Roaming Charr warbands baby!
