So uh, how do you expand your disc space on an old school PS3 anyways?

  1. Buy a new 2.5" laptop hard drive. Up to 500GB definitely works, may be higher now.
  2. Back up your current hard drive to a USB hard drive using the backup utility (has to be FAT32, I think).
  3. Make sure all your important saves are on the cloud just in case.
  4. Pull the old one out, switch the mounting bracket over to the new drive (single screw on all models, I think, google for a guide if you need one), slide the new drive into the PS3 and boot up.
  5. Some models will ask for a firmware file, just download the latest from PlayStation.com and have it handy on a thumb drive in case.
  6. All models will detect the new drive and format it.
  7. After that restore your old files using the same backup utility and USB hard drive and you'll be good to go.

As an owner of a 40GB PS3, that is mighty useful. Thank you sir!

How do you get transformers from that?

I see a bee, a motown hit (Ross? Supremes? Motown?) and a stealth bomber (Blackbird?)

Edit: Oh, hmm. Bumblebee for the first one, I see.

Edit2:...the plane is a Nighthawk.

Edit3: There appears to be a Nighthawk in Burnout Paradise (the KITT-alike), and one car in that looks like the Transformers movie take on Bumblebee. A vague possibility.

There's also a Nighthawk mission in Dead Island.
Yeah I can't make any sense of the motown one either.

I've currently got a 640GB Samsung Spinpoint M7 in mine as it was the biggest within a reasonable price range at the time of purchase and paid £41.50 for it.

My year's sub of PS+ expired and I bought another year but now I can't play any of my old PS+ games like Burnout and Stacking. Shouldn't they reactivate if you rebuy PS+?

Does the backup utility transfer all the game data over or do you have to re-download all of the games from the store if you switch hard drives?

what happens if you try to play them...? and have you tried redownloading them (try Stacking it does not take up much space)..?

Burnout won't let me play at all, it just says it has expired. Stacking will load but the menu has an option for "unlock full game" so it's only letting me play a demo.

I'll try downloading Stacking again later and see if that works.

You should have the unlock key file for Stacking in your download list (or you can just search it from the store). No need to download the whole game.

just download the small file then (there is a demo and a Full game file for that game)...

The new EU PS+ game is Deus Ex: Human Revolution, plus a 50% discount on all DLC for the game and the original Deus Ex (PS2 classic).

Also discounts on Dungeon Twister (50%) and Rainbow Moon (20%).

Edit: Two more games coming on July 18th to replace Chime Super Deluxe and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (one is a PSN game, the other is a Blu-ray game according to Ross). Deus Ex HR replaces Virtua Fighter 5, so be sure to add those games to your download list before they vanish.

Oh man, bought PS3 few days ago and got PS+. Been playing Motorostorm, LBP2 etc because of it and now Deus Ex is coming. Glad I went with 320GB because all these free games are really eating up space.

I have Deus Ex already (original and HR) but that's a nice update for folks that don't.

My console backlog is ridiculous right now and I haven't even started any of the original instant game collection content so I don't mind that this update has nothing for me.

Have had PlayStation+ since the start when all the naysayers called it a waste of time and that all we were doing was giving Sony money for nothing. Well I now have well over 100 games in my collection that is like a cumulative rental service.

Sony really have shown the way how it can and should be done with this service.

Pff, Deus Ex, that sucks. I really want Pac-Man and Gotham City Imposter. Oh well, I can still get the Deus Ex DLC.

I already have most of the content but I think I'll buy my third copy of Deus Ex (already have retail PC and Steam copies) and the last piece of DLC I don't have on PS3 (even though I've got them on Steam). Rainbow Moon will probably be a buy as well.

Question: When you download the free Plus games for the month, do you get to keep them forever?

as long as you have downloaded it from the PSN store (you don´t even have to finish the download, just start it and cancel, then it gets added to your download list) , it will be on your download list, and you can download it as long as you are a Plus subscriber.

It seems that the releases in Europe on July 18th will be one PSN title and one Digital BD release. I am hoping for some Jak/Sly action but we will see how it goes.

Already had Sly 1 for free with Plus, so wouldn't mind seeing some Jak this time around. I keep wanting to pick up the Sly Trilogy but think it's £15 and really only seeing the benefit of 2 games as already got the first one free and got the Plat.

Just a month after Sly 1 was free for +, the trilogy was on sale for (I think) £8.99 for + (£9.99 otherwise). That's when I picked it up.

Sly 2 and 3 are great fun and well worth £4/5 each.

Great Scott! Am I allowed to hyperventilate?
Deus frigging Ex! PC version didn't run very well so now i'm finally able to really play that delightfull piece of cyberpunk goodness! :D
