Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

The old times were the best, I can't wait to have a similar experience with Guild Wars 2

Edit: Decided to add a spoiler for this one in case anyone's playing the story for the first time.
Remember when killing
Glint
actually gave you a sense of accomplishment, I hope this feeling translates into GW2.. taking down huge bosses for the first time can't wait :D
Boss Shot

Does anyone remember having Gaile and The Frog chats in Lions Arch?, I hope we get something like this in GW2 where the devs present themselves in game in one form or another to chat with the players.

Being able to have an active Guild once again lol
Even during the GW2 Beta I was amazed to see so many faces re appeared, was the best Guild turn out in years, I really look forward to catching up with people again come the 25th :D

The thing I'm most excited about in GW2, is just exploring each area and taking my time to look around at all the little details, will be filling my screenshot folder for sure.
Seeing new areas for the first time in GW was amazing, just staring out over the landscapes, I remember when I got my first 16:9 monitor, I did my best to re visit all my old screenshot locations and take the shot again :D

So what was your fondest memory of Guild Wars, and do you hope you can re live it once again in Guild Wars 2?

Man, those were the days. Infusion runs, drok runs, troll farming,

Oh yes, made me lots of cash.
I think the one I made most gold from but took longer was this...
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/w-x-fow-spider-farmer-t77852.html (the guy posting was my guild leader, he also farmed the aataxes in uw with a warrior using a wand and switching to sword for riposts)

A good way to make one just by playing is to pick up all the drops and identify every item even white ones because it increased their value.

18-30 in 4 days
Congrats Jira. I thought Mr. Guild Wars 2 would have already be at 50/50 in Guild Wars.

Thanks, I slacked for a long time. The year of the dragon post got me to go from 5-18, the release date post got me to go from 18-30 really fast.

I can help you if he can't. Send me a pm here or in game. Name is Jira Lenarae.

I love you guys. No, seriously.

Thanks, this is likely the way I will go then if it supports the devs.

edit: just prepurchased, feels good! officially aboard the GW2 train

Awesome! Welcome aboard! I'm assuming you're in the ATL?

Your order inspired me to pre-purchase the game right now

Feels goodman

Same as above......minus the part about the ATL!

Yes, adding new classes won't add exponentially to the number of individual build permutations available and that's a Good Thing(tm).

However, that still leaves cross-profession combos and team builds. Each additional class added to a potential pool of team members increases the complexity of balancing the game. eg. There are 32,768 possible 5-man group permutations by class alone, adding one more class would increase that to 59,049.

Adding additional weapons also adds to the complexity of the game. However, they have less effect than a new class as they don't add whole new class features or utility skills to the game, just new weapon skills to a few classes.

Races involve adding more content and introduce MUCH fewer skills than weapons or classes, making them prime candidates for introduction via explansions.

You and your math! I like to sit on this side of the ignorance pool and just pretend everything will be ok.

Wow man. That's awesome. Color me jealous. Huge congrats!!!

The game is interesting but have they fixed their ugly UI? Guess I'll watch some more recent videos but, man, I find the UI pretty ugly. It clashes with the environment.

You are the first person in 3 Guild Wars 2 threads that has said the UI is ugly. Clearly there is something wrong with you.

How?! Tell me all of your secrets.
Looking by his HoM, he had lots of minis, pets and got armours for his Heros.

The UI is pretty non-invasive. Not sure why it would inspire much in the way of dislike, but it takes all sorts.

Yeah they actually have a team dedicated to making sure this is the case. You can't please everyone, however.

Loved the new dodge bar around your health globe.

Do people usually get a super long weekend after July 4th? Ie no one works from Wednesday till next Monday?

Not around here, we only got the 4th off. Of course 2/3 of the office decided to take vacation and have a super long weekend anyway. I decided to save my vacation time, and regretted it as soon as my alarm went off this morning.

Im going to be forever stuck at 16 points. :(

Cant farm (mind wants to commit suicide anytime I try), got nowhere near the needed Mesmer Skills needed to form those superhero team builds that just wander through zones unhindered and gaaaaah I never get that one last stupid Green mini that I want in a birthday gift!

He's not the only one... partly.

Am I crazy to think that the health "bubble" completely clashes with the entire UI design? Everything has such nice lines, beautiful artistic look, then... BAM - big circle right in the middle of the action bar.

It's so out of place, aesthetically.

I think the circular health helps to differentiate it from the other elements. It sort of needs to stand out IMO; it's your health, after all.

That was my thought too. Instead of a tiny little bar at the corner of the screen, health is right there in the bottom center. It may be a little big, but that's the point; you can keep an eye on it without having to look at it. Having the dodge bars around it looks really slick too.

Beat the campaigns. Now I just need to get master on the Cantha dungeons and PVP my brains out for Zaishen keys.

Which weapon statue is easiest to get out of the three? My plan only needs one.

I think buying a Coffer of Whispers, means you can trade it for a Tormented Weapon.

Or you can finish War in Kryta quests.

Has anyone pre-purchased from an EBGames in Quebec ? I have a gift card that I want to use.

If so did you have any problems getting your code ?

How long is War in Kryta? I can't tell by looking at the Wiki.

I finished War in Kryta over the weekend. Its not too long, but it is much harder than the rest of the game up until then.

edit: Oh yeah, and if your character was created in Cantha/Elona and you do not have one who has gone through the pre-searing --> Lion's Arch quests....Have fun running allllll the way back to Ascalon lol.

Destroyer - ~80k.
Oppressor - ~90k.
Tormented - ~190k.

War in Kryta is worth doing anyway, and you get 17k from quest rewards and enough Medals of Honor to exchange for an Oppressor weapon. I can't remember it being overly long.

How is everyone getting all these minis? Are you just paying for them or is there some sort of trading system?

I was wondering this myself. Right now, I have 5 common and 4 uncommon. All from Birthday gifts. That's it. No Rare or Unique. How the hell do I obtain the remaining 11 (for the 2 points), a Rare, and a Unique?

No dungeons, just certain explorable/mission areas from Prophecies get reworked with new enemies. You can die in these missions without failing...however the enemies have rez spells so likely they'll be back with full numbers.

edit: I got my first mini, a rare, from a gift box during the last War in Kryta mission :D You can get a Unique mini by doing the Black Moa Chick quest. I just had my 1 year birthday and got two commons, I am not sure if I am going to dedicate them or sell them. I dont think I will be able to buy 16 more for the point :-\

I really need a filler game in the meantime. Diablo 3 didnt do it... Torch light 2 still MIA.

Wish I could atleast play with the characrer creator.

I'm right there with you. Diablo 3 didn't last me half as long as I was hoping it would (or keep me half as entertained for that matter).

I've been working on my backlog, which is doubly important because its only going to grow when GW2 comes out and I spend all my time on that. But even still, I'm having trouble focusing on any of the games now that GW2 is just around the corner.

I paid for the vast majority of them. I dedicated the whites I got that I didn't, same for the gold I got on my own through bday presents, dedicated a select few purples, and did the work to get the green moa chick over 2 days. Otherwise I bought every single one and got a lot of good deals from people who sold them for far less than they were worth.

I hate life.

I also hate dungeons. War in Kryta involve dungeons?

Nope. War in Kryta is the easiest and cheapest way to get an oppressor weapon (free) through turning in 10 Medals of Honor.

But be careful on this quest

When you get to the end with the large courtyard and a bunch of mobs, flag your heroes on the bridge and pull one pack at a time back. You have to do this about 4 times because mobs keep coming. Then once you're sure no more mobs are going to come, move up to the middle and flag there, then pull the mobs in front of the boss. Then flag a bit closer and pull the boss. Beware that the boss will spawn adds that have a nasty AoE. Be sure to try to burn the boss down asap.

Lol you've obviously done a good job searching my post history (I only remember posting this in one other thread but I'll take your word for it). However, have you searched everyone else's post history? :p

Seriously, though. Doesn't anyone else find the UI clashes badly with the environment? It is very apparent when you look at screenshots or video that have no UI. The game looks glorious. The UI adds a comic book style too it that ruins it (in my opinion of course).

I think the UI is artistic in a sense but I think it's too cluttery.

It'd probably be easier to get a Destroyer Weapon + 20 Heros than the 5 armors. Should be cheaper too. The expensive component of the Destroyer weapon is the diamond, and you can save some money by running some missions for Trade Contracts and trading those in for Diamonds.

Koss, Meloni, the 2 Acolytes, and Dunkoro's are super easy to get by doing the following challenge mission: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dajkah_Inlet

After that just finish up your EotN heros and you should be good.

I don't think anyone was searching your post history. The point was there have been several threads about Guild Wars 2, and many of us have been reading these threads quite thoroughly and there have been very few complaints about the UI. The general consensus has been that it is clean, unobtrusive, and functional. There is certainly still room for improvement, and there have been many improvements over the last couple of betas, but I just don't see how it's ugly.

Maybe if you were to post a screenshot that illustrates your point, it might be easier to discuss this.

Ive been signing up for free trials

Tried LOTRO, Tera, FFXI (again)

All kinda suck :(

Well, Tera's combat system seemed kinda cool, but I really have no patience with kill 10 of these creatures quests anymore

Yeah, I've been seriously tempted to do this a few times. TERA had a free weekend a couple weeks back, and I sort of did want to see what all the fuss was about its combat system. There were also a few other MMOs that have either just gone F2P, or just got added to Steam in the past couple of months, that I considered trying out.

Ultimately, I decided that the reason GW2 interests me so much is that it appeals to me in a way that the traditional MMO model does not. No need to waste tens of hours reminding myself of that fact.

i know this is crazy but i was thinking what kinda changes would happen in the expansion besides new lands to explore.

i was hoping instead of making new classes anet would just have some sort of heroic classes that can add a bit more customization or maybe add flavor to the new expansions for example:

warrior can change into a samurai or maybe a barbarian/brawler type.
guardian can turn into a monk or paladin.
thief can go into assassin or maybe a scoundrel.

i read all the d&d 4th edition books, i like the idea of paragon(heroic) classes :)

oh and instead of a char warrior i am making my warrior a norn now! screw the haters haha.

Speaking of crazy changes, I'd like to see them introduce aerial combat and mounted aerial, underwater, and ground based combat; with special weapons designed for mounted combat. Then have combat sections that require you to fight while moving at a fast pace.

CRAZY! lol
