Is it worth it to get a Vita?

Just like the 3DS in the same timeframe, there's really not enough to justify a purchase yet. From what two of my friends who own Vitas have said, you can only beat Gravity Rush so many times.

Yes it is awesome and no you cannot have it.
My 3DS has been hibernating since I got my Vita.

Keep an eye on deals an pick it up when you see a giftcard/bundle tie in than tickles your fancy. I bought it at 130$ off and couldn't be happer (okay, that's a lie, I still need a Dragon Quest 8 announcement).

I have serious buyer's remorse with it.... I would say no. I don't see it getting strong support besides from sony (and I don't care about handheld killzone, etc) from next year onwards.
EDIT: For the record I own Rayman origins, lumines, gravity rush and super stardust delta

What does any of this have to do with the OP's question?

It relates to my previous post about Vita being the perfect platform for arcade/indie titles. Since that library is weak, I don't think it is worth getting a Vita, unless you like playing spin offs of major franchises by B tier devs.

Yes, if you never owned a PSP.

Great system to hoard up on old cheap PSP games on PSN.

Plus they all look way better on Vita.

Yes, if you never owned a PSP.

Yeah, if you've never owned a PSP, it's a good buy. You'll have at least a few dozen solid games to hold you over during the lulls.

I have no regrets about my purchase. But then again, I knew what I was getting into when I bought it, and I don't just buy things indiscriminately. There isn't a single "system seller" on the system, but as a whole I'm satisfied with the library so far. When it comes to exclusive titles, I've enjoyed Hot Shots, Lumines, Wipeout, Gravity Rush, Mutant Blob, Unit 13, Super Star Dust and Uncharted quite a bit. It's nice having Rayman Origins and Plants vs. Zombies on a handheld, too. My greatest concern is software support in the future, as we move further away from the launch/launch window rush. I'd hate to see such a fantastic piece of hardware go to waste, but even if it does I'll still be using it for late night Netflix in bed <3.

The Vita to me seems perfect for arcade/indie type games. Unfortunately the library for these types of games is really weak on PSN compared to XBLA/Steam. SoundShapes is a start, but Sony really need to get their act together. They should have done a long time ago. I think Shane Bettenhausen is responsible for this in the US? He doesn't seem effective and should be replaced. No idea who is in charge of indies for SCEE but they aren't much better.

Lot's of great Indiegames on PSN.
- As for the indie-community.
Alot of the games Sony showcased for PSN and Vita in it's booth on E3, has been harvesting awards on indie-festivals, and is clearly rooted in indie-comunity.
Games like Closure, Sound Shapes, Dyad, Hell Yeah!, Sunflowers, Snapshot, Pid, Retro City Rampage, the Unfinished Swan all look really interesting to me, and are games I'm looking to buy when they release.
The main problem with the indie-games, is that the media ignores them, Sony had over 20 of them ready to play in the booth, but we had to find the hobby-journalists to hear about how most of those games played - regular game-media just went past all the Vita-games until they stopped at Sly 4 booth.

Personally to me - all of the titles above seems like really interesting titles, aswell as alot of the upcoming titles from other smaller self-publishing studios efforts on PSN.
Like Drinkbox' Guatemale, and Zen Studios, Kickbeat and When Vikings Attacks, the two upcoming Oddworld games from JAW, etc.

So I have nothing to worry about on that front, from what I remember I know is coming ontop of my head.. It definately puts to shame everything I know come to XBLA and Steam.

When LBP Vita comes, you'll also get alot of smaller game-experiences.
And I hear they're introducing save-state features aswell, so now you can actually make a RPG in LBP and have your stats and equipment saved to your characther and similar.

It seems pretty dead in the water, and it's manufactured by a company that's too weak to stick by any new product through hard times.

Wait a year, see what state it is in then.

I would say no right now because of its future. You could buy one now and get a couple of games but with this thing bombing so badly you don't know if a year from now all you're going to have is a $250+ paperweight, either from Sony pulling the plug or there just not being any games for it because the system bombed and everyone bailed out.

No interest in the MGS HD Collection? ZOE HD collection? Uncharted: Golden Abyss?

I'm kind of interested in getting one, but... if the install base is low, that means less games and less games means... well, it would be a waste of money.

And for the record, I have a 3DS already. I only have one game and I'm only interested in Kingdom Hearts at this point. That doesn't have a lot of games I want either, evidently... for now.
You bought a 3DS, have only one game for it, and you're only interested in one other game at the moment. BUT... you're worried that you would be wasting your money buying a vita.

I'm not sure what to say. My immediate reaction is that you've already wasted your money once on the 3DS, so what's it matter if you waste some more money on another system, if you're interested in it? Why did you buy the 3DS and why wasn't that a waste of money (or maybe it was a waste of money)?

Obviously these reasons are yours and maybe those reasons don't exist for the vita.

Personally, I usually wait 2-3 years at the very least before getting a new system so a good library builds up.

Vita is definitely the one I'm looking at though, the only way I'm going with a 3DS is if the Vita dies an early death (which I highly doubt).

Just like the 3DS in the same timeframe, there's really not enough to justify a purchase yet. From what two of my friends who own Vitas have said, you can only beat Gravity Rush so many times.

But the 3DS got a price drop around this time to $170. If the Vita was $170 and had a memory card included so it could at least load games, I would buy one with the current games out. That would be enough for me to buy it on the promise of future games.

LOL NO.

Dont by the vita.It has no games.Gravity rush is Overated on here.Dont get it till it has custom firmware.

Just get a 3ds.

Nobody can tell you if it's worth it to you, that's for you to decide. It's your money.

But you would be buying a system that, at this point, has literally no future.

If you don't have a PSP, is worthy to invest in a Vita. There are a lot of interesting games already released for the system, and a huge backlog of great games on PSP (specially if you like RPG games).

Also, even if the platform is expensive, the games are really cheap (specially compared with 3DS) because there are quite amazing sales, not only on PSP games, also on Vita ones. All people complain about the 50$ Uncharted, but there are a lot of good PSN games for less than 10$, and some "retail" ones for less than 20$.

If you don't have a PSP and want one, you could just buy one for $60 instead of having it be the justification of a $250 purchase. :V

I thought people were well aware of the current finical state of Sony. It is not the same company it was eight years ago.

The Playstation side of Sony is actually a healty, profiting division, their TV business was what brought them down.

And your argument wasn't Sony's financial state anyway. The same was said about the PS3 and PSP, both of them when to become successful products.

As for the OP, if you have to ask then don't buy it. Buy it when you are sure that you want one. I have one since launch and I love it.

I agree with this, there are a lot of good indie games coming. It's not that the media ignores them, The Unfinished Swan won E3 awards, it's that they aren't released yet. The other two services have a consistent output while Sony seems to be playing catch up. This seems to be the ass backwards way Sony does things.

I've had one since launch and although I don't regret my purchase, my gaming time definitely fell off after I tried out the majority of the launch lineup. Recently I picked up Mortal Kombat and MGS Collection and I'm reminded why it's awesome. Great screen, good controls, it just needs a stronger lineup.

Still haven't played Gravity Rush. Waiting until next week for the B2G1 from Best Buy.

It's a good week to get one at Gamestop this week. Vita's come with a $50 gift card. Mortal Kombat is $20 right now, Disgaea 3 is $30, some other deals going on as well.

because the vita can play the psp games with the amazing screen and a second controller much improving how many of the games play. Also you can play

the vita games
the web browser
the social apps
netflix

and so on. Its a damn site better than the PSP even at being a psp.

As a general comment on this thread, its crazy some of the BS that gets posted. Its lol worthy. No future? no games? I guess all the games that are out and the 20-30 games they showed at E3 didn't actually happen. And PSO2 next year.....

If you dont like the games on this then sure thats fine. I dont like nintendo games so i dont have a nintendo console.... that doesn't mean it doesn't have any games or a future.

People just baffle me I guess.

*Scuttles off to the happy place that is the vita OT*

What's the number of solid games (for the owner) in a machine's lifetime that justifies it? 10? So far I've had three games on Vita that I've played extensively: Hot Shots Golf, Gravity Rush and MLB 12. I know for certain that LBP is day 1 and I'll play every square inch of it. There's a pretty good chance I'll go back for Resistance and Uncharted at some point and I'll probably play Black Ops. So... for me, I'd say I'm pretty happy with my launch purchase. If it does have a full lifespan, I definitely will.

Wipeouts a pretty solid entry if your into it. Especially now its got the HD and Fury DLC. Games huge with that all included and runs really well. Oddly Unit 13 is really solid as well. That game just suits the system so well.

I've had plenty of stuff to play on my Vita.

Sure half of it is probably PSP games but I never had a PSP so it's fresh to me.

Wish there was more on the horizon but I'm enjoying it now and it's definitely the most impressive handheld I've had.

'Literally no future'?

Literally?

Woah.

Yes. If there are no games, then the system is dead.

The current state of vita software development is almost nonexistent. Why on earth will it improve later on? Most publishers have already made it clear, they don't care to put resources into this system. And Sony isn't Nintendo where they can sell it just off their own games.

Ok now list every game thats out and every game thats been mentioned as coming out and prove you know what your talking about..... me thinks you don't

Once again, Sony was a much healthier company back then. They had the ability to stay the course with the PS3 even when the Gameboy Advance SP outsold it.

But now they're bled out all over, and they're trading for a fraction of what they were worth back when the PS3 launched. Can they really afford the bills to keep the Vita on life support?

Do they think that's a healthy decision in today's handheld market?

What? I'm saying there will be no more vita games developed. If you want to refute that, then it's your job to list all those games currently in development and provide evidence that new development will continue into the future.

Well there gaming devision is profitable so if they are going to be closing down all the bit that are bleeding them money..... yes...

your the one making claims there isnt anything coming out for the system without a shred of evidence.... surely the burden is more on you to back up your claim.

edit:

work pc is a bit restricted but for a start E3 showed over 20 upcoming games on the show floor, ps mobile will bring in a flood of indie developers and then you have minis and psn games. Im not sure where you think nothing is coming out for this thing.

Do you accept that there are currently games in development for the system?

How could someone produce evidence that new development will continue into the future?

No i have used by bros.

Its a giant waste of money. No games.

This forum is the only place that likes it
You tell 'em, champ!

maybe your bro needs to buy some more games then?
How can he when there are no games? Huh? HOW?!
