EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

Hmm.. I'm just not liking how SFxT comes across tournament-wise. Having one character loss be round loss means that matches can end just SO quickly. By the time you start to get hyped for a match-up, it can already be over.

No it was because the stream restarted. It always happens. They'll get them back.
I've seen dozens of stream restarts and the viewer count usually returns to normal within a minute. I'm starting to think that over ten thousand people did actually bounce....

Not hating or anything. Still trying to make my way through Mahvel footage from earlier.

Combofiend is a terrible teammate.

He didn't let Mike play then he raw tag in Mike. =(

That's because he couldn't get a hit on Infiltration. It would have been another raw tag if he got Mike Ross in. And we saw what happened with that in the last round. Either way, they were outplayed.

Can someone explain to me as a complete fighting game newb why this game didn't take off like the others or why people don't seem to respect it as much?

Huw_Dawson posted this earlier in the thread, I'm just saving this to copy/paste every time this question is asked, it seems to come up often and this is a pretty good summation.

1) Most of the game's mechanics are at the very least poorly thought out (cross rush combos) and at the worst either useless or detrimental to the game (pandora, gems)
2) The game had significant bugs - various characters had infinites, Rolento had a ZA WARUDO game freezing glitch in one patch, Megaman could fly into space...
3) The game's balance is badly off. Much of the cast lacks a reliable anti-air, either normal or special. The top tier characters typically have amazing jump-in attacks that exploit this. It would take far too long (and admittedly far more experience with the cast than I have) to list all the balance problems. This is the main issue!
4) Wonky hitboxes. This ties into 3. Cross-ups are AMAZING.
5) The game encourages safe pressure strings. In SF4, getting hit with a standing light punch only leads into small amounts of damage and sometimes a knockdown - in SFxT it can be a third of one of your character's life. Result? Everyone blocks. All of the time. There's very little between BS mixup and safe pressure.
5) Due to the game's 2v2 nature combined with SF4 damage output (certain characters notwithstanding) you run into timeout after timeout.
6) The game is visually ugly and the music score is awful!

Also, PR disasters and DLC.
