If I were to believe some of you Kanye West fans, his music is amongst the most profound to have ever graced this planet and to even suggest it is not gospel makes you a crazy cook.

I'm not even being all that sarcastic, I'm genuinely curious because I haven't been exposed much at all to his music and I generally don't listen to music off the top charts.

I don't think calling Kanye's music "excellent pop" is far off base. I mean, in the broadest definition of the binary pop versus alt. Pop shouldn't be a dirty word.

Usually the artists who are perfect don't claim to be.
I like his music but it's far from perfect; his production is usually on point but there are better hip hop producers out there (pete rock/dj premier/rza in their prime, madlib and j dilla for example) and his rapping is hit or miss.

If you have to be an egotistical asshole to make "Good" music so be it. I don't care what he says. His music is good. Now, perfect? No. Fuck, no. But on that note who the fuck cares? Plenty of other artists out there produce awesome material and are good people to boot, or at least are not so obvious about being a douche bag.

This thread is embarrassing for everyone involved. We have people repping Metallica and Tool as the end all be all for music, people calling Kanye a decent singer, those weird people that claim to listen to everything "except rap and pop" that treat those genres as lesser forms of music, etc.
The guy can produce, I'll give him that. I think he's far from the best rapper in the game, but he puts together some killer stuff. His ego is a part of the package, and it's a part of his music. Don't like it? There's plenty of other music out there. But his boasting is nothing new, and doesn't make him less of a producer in the grand scheme of things.

I didn't even see anyone stating they hated hiphop in this topic.
Personally I don't really mind genre at all when listening to music... my favorite bands of all time are Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Metallica, but I appreciate musical acts as varying as Fleetwood Mac and New Edition.. Kate Bush and my favorite video game composers.
I'll listen to hiphop too if it gels with me.
I just find it funny/interesting how defensive of Kanye West I see people get on forums sometimes, like in this topic when someone suggested he isn't much different from other top 40 acts like Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber.
Maybe some of his albums are really good... I haven't really listened to his stuff... but I have of course heard "Niggas in Paris" (dreadful) and to a lesser extent "All of the Lights", and when I listen to that I don't get the feeling I'm listening to something profoundly different from all the other top 40 acts.
