EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

What could possibly be sad is that I watched Evo in it's entirety all 3 days (other than a few hours when I was at work Friday).

KOF was the least interesting, flat out. Same characters, same combos, same play styles.
I wouldn't say it was the least interesting but my only complaint is how long the whole thing took compared to other games, It's Grand-Finals were really good though.

I had fears when KOF came out that the way the game was set up, it would devolve into at least same combo/same playstyle. It took a while, but at the highest level it does. It did have mad hype/drama though.

So Chin, Duo Lon, Kim, Takuma, Shen, Clark, Ralf, Billy etc. (characters used in the grand final) had similar play styles and combos?

Yeah, sure.

To most people not really versed in KOF, it looks very similar. Its a common complaint. High level KOF is lots of skip jumps even if the characters are different

If you were not amazed at the master screen control by MAD's Duo Lon then you need to get your fighting game credentials checked.

KOF was super hype!

Getting around to watching the Capcom panel. I wonder how well they'll fix up SFxT with this patch coming up.

That's KOF though, not the characters. Its the style of play (in regards to hoping).

It would be like saying everyone looks similar in 3rd Strike or SF4 because they can all parry or focus. Chun Li and Ken being similar in 3rd Strike because they always focus on fishing for a cr. mk into super in 3rd Strike etc. Its just basic mechanics.

Yes, essentially. Other than Ralf/Clark.

I wouldn't have so much of a problem with it if it wasn't so excruciatingly long. 2/3 in that game is too long, especially when they go back to char select after each match. I watched it with a group of my friends and we all just rooted for the winner of the first match, just hoping it would end sooner. That's not good enough for Sunday night at Evo.

I don't think he meant characters all played the same, but maybe the matches.

KOFXIII tends to start out like honest fighting, but it ends up like Hokuto.
Also the way they adjusted meter really hurts non-rushdown styles.

How did it end up like Hokuto?

Did you even pay attention to how Mad Kof was playing? The vast majority of his combos were short using just drive and/or ex. For the most part it was just Bala's Takuma doing long combos (that's the kind of character he is, he either goes for death or stun).

If you don't want rush down then you are looking at the wrong series, has nothing to do with meter adjustment.

Question when are we going to see Tekken X Street Fighter? I was really surprised that there was nothing shown after the TTT2 exhibition. Not even a teaser or something?

Its pretty early in the development stage by the look of things, their biggest focus has been TTT2.

It may or may not end up on current gen consoles, Harada said they'll try but its not certain.

Duo plays similar to whom in KOF13??

did you seriously look at MAD's Duo and say "oh, his Dou play is JUST LIKE his Kim" ?

And of course Mad KOF's Duo Lon is impressive. A lot of it was impressive, it was just boring and predictable after you've seen it all a few times.
that Duo play had more variety than most character/team plays at EVO. The way he adapted to every character Bala threw at him.

They started. We've had the leak of temp models for animations. It's just that they're getting nowhere fast, and currently planning to release it for this gen of consoles when it's likely that by when it hits we'll be well into next gen.

Leak? All I remember is the hastily slapped together Ryu model and the video with Heichachi and Nina given some Ryu and Chun animations. That was posted by Harada on twitter if I recall correctly. So mostly Tekken assets used to give people an idea of what it could look like.

There was a leak of an early Akuma model, and one other. It looked ghastly. I'd link the thread but I'm on my phone.

Yet Marvel excites you?
Marvel was the most exciting game by far in this EVO with KOF and SF4:A being tied behind it. The issue with SF4 this EVO was the top 8 wasn't as exciting as previous years and KOF is that it took way to long to get to GF.

Still watching these panels... nothing makes me saltier than Capcom's random-and-often-lacking PC support. Apparently we can't even get MvC Origins, a DD release.

Edit: Hmmmm... He just said something (related to patching) about Marvel being involved in their decisions. I wonder if Marvel hates PC for some reason.

Edit 2: What's with all these tools asking about further changes when they already said no more patches.

You're not talking about this are you?

That's Heihachi made to look like Akuma with TTT2 customization. You could kind of do this in T6 too.

EDIT: finally found a (bad) image:

MadKOF made the finals for me. He was the only interesting player in the entire finals. (Well also the air of invincibility from Bala and his Billy was impressive)

Everyone else did the same shit with the same type of characters (Takuma, Mr, Karate, Kyo, Hwa, ect). Low jump hit confirm/command grab, long ass combos, 50-100 percent damage based on how much meter you have. Repeat.

MadKOF's style was complete different. His combos were short but he got you with surgical precision. The stuff he was doing with Duo and Chin was amazing.

The three most impressive plays at EVO IMO was.

MAD KOF Duo
MAD KOF Chin
Infiltrationy Akuma.

Yeah the sf4 top 8 was just off.
It was fantastic seeing new gunslingers in power positions, but the matches really had no drama to them.

I bet we won't see Daigo coming to the USA for other tournaments until next EVO.

His Ryu just seemed sloppy, it has all year.
I would love to see him pick up someone else, maybe even try Makoto again.
I still do not understand the crazy love for dragon punches that ended up hurting him more than helping.

I'll be really surprised if Daigo doesn't come out for anything but Evo. In the post Evo interviews, Daigo looked almost depressed. I'm sure he wants that salty runback, or at least some kind of win. He hasn't won a tournament in quite a while.

Happened last year, he didn't show up again till like CEO iirc.

He was very busy last year. He had Topanga league matches, he had Japan nationals, involvement with his book, and he had promotional appearances at Arcades for Gunslinger Stratos for all of April. He could have gone to a few, but there was also a lot of time he was unavailable compared to the previous year.

He may look depressed because he seemed dead tired, add the loss to that and yeah, not a pretty picture.

Still, during the tournament he seemed very upbeat and easy going. Smiles all over the place. Hope we see more of him soon.

His Ryu is still the only one worth watching imo and the only one to consistently place high (isn't he like the only player to make top 8 for SF4 at Evo each year since release?).

Ah, thanks for the info.
