EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

Curious, what are your guys most fun fighting game? And has there been anything this generation that has come close to that level of fun?

Melee, by far. Unfortunately, nothing has and probably nothing will come close to that level of fun. Melee was really its own beast.

I've now fallen in love with Marvel 3, as many Melee players have (Bum, Falcomist, Alucard, Forward... the list goes on.)

Third Strike was my first real calling to the genre. I mostly blame that on footage of J's Makoto at SBO '04 (obligatory video link for propaganda's sake). At the same time I started paying attention to the scene, the Marvel 3 hype was kicking into full gear with the Clockwork vs. Neo money match. I pretty much followed the game without playing it for sometime before Ultimate came along and well, I jumped on as soon as I could.

As it stands, from the little of the genre I've played in the past year, Vampire Saviour & Third Strike are my all time favorites while Marvel 3 is easily my favorite of this generation. Skullgirls has the highest potential of taking a spot next to Marvel especially when the roster starts getting filled in, but really with the amount of time I've put into just getting things in Marvel, I'd say my main squeeze for this time isn't going anywhere and overshadows everything else.

Edit: Oh we're cool enough in this thread to include Smash in the mix? In that case, I first started with Smash 64 in '99, played Melee for a good while although I definitely loved the 64 entry more (prior to seeing high level Melee's movement) and played Brawl pretty heavily for 2 years after the game came out.

Its ridiculous that this is something that isn't on the first page.

Thanks Panda. You are indeed very pretty.

That match was amazing. I wish Daigo had been able to play at that level during top 8, even if he hadn't won, at least if he didn't get bopped 4 rounds straight against infiltration.

Aside from the scrubby ass random fierce DP's, the comebacks were great.
not sure if serious....

Shady K was practicing it earlier.

Shady K is always the first to learn everything in the FGTV house. He just doesn't apply any of it.... ever.

He was the first to get the TAC infinite as well. He was the first to start using Doom. He was the first to teach them about the bull shit of doom missiles.

If only... he didn't choke.. and get DQ.

He is the master mind behind FGTV tech.

LMAO @ Dios X challenging FChamp to a money match!! ROFL!!!

I think shady k is really there just to help them get better, like hes the coach rofl.

Vampire Savior is probably my favorite of all time. I think KOF13 is the best fighting game of this generation; odd since I never got into KOF before 11. I love watching Marvel even more than I love playing it....which is why don't anymore.

Eh it's alright, it's my fave street fighter by far but it does have some issues with the top characters. Mostly just chun, yun is kinda execution heavy so it's fine.

My fondest memory of the game is getting a 108 win streak with Q at a con in Norcal only reason I stopped was cause it was 12am and they wanted to close the station down.

Sadly I cant get out to events because I can't drive and don't have friends that would be down to go anywhere. Being disabled without a wheelchair right now isn't helping much either. If I could I'd drive 1 1/2 hours to the norcal events every week just to go. *My friends all did crazy shit like this for yugioh* fml T_T

What area in NorCal are you in? I don't post much, but I was pretty active in the local NorCal scene until about a year ago and I'm trying to get back into it now that I've graduated from college. If we live close or you're not too out of the way from one of the tourneys/events, I'll pick you up and take you... PM me some time.

Just got back home. EVO WAS SO FUCKING DOPE!

Really happy with the way I played. I lost to Whoazz and LinkRKC, and I feel like I could've beaten Link. Not at Tekken, though. He destroyed me. But yay me making it out of pools @ EVO. :D

I beat Gamerbee at SC. I'm just going to go around saying I beat Gamerbee at EVO. Not going to say what game. ;)

Hope SC is back next year, because I'm going in HARD.

Went 3-2 I think in KoF, but I haven't played that since SC came out.

TTT2 was awesome, played a lot of that. Kuni was fun. Lines were always deep for Persona, so I never bothered waiting since it comes out in a few weeks.

Overall. Great tournament, great experience. Loved the fuck out of being part of the crowd.

Met markman, USD, Doc_Z, and sixfortyfive. All mad chill.

Cool to put names with the screen names. :D

I'm over in shitty merced

FGTV FChamp and ShadyK exploring the Kubota Escape. It's pretty good against Vergil because you basically get to waste his Spiral Swords.
What's the inputs and stuff?

rofl good shit welcome back

Hey now you're back and I can ask you. What is the status of DOA5 and it being competitive? I was took a quick glimpse on Freestepdodge and saw a lot of negative things coming from Dogg and Rikuto, but I know you have been following the scene longer that I have so I wanted your opinion on the matter.

Long story short, he owes me donuts.

And it is amazing.

Dead serious. Daigo never just let it rips like that. Go watch his evo wins. his play is much cleaner.

I wonder if its an execution error to be honest.

Naw, if you point out which dp's you're in question there is a reason for each and everyone. There were 2 dp's that whiffed hard, because Adons jump arc is so funky, it makes it difficult to autocorrect, but when it does, he gets that trade to ultra that Ryu's been missing since Vanilla. I remember maybe one truly random dp, but that was likely him trying to react. Adon kinda forces him to play this way, the character is pretty obnoxious from up to 2/3 of the screen away.

so heres what fchamp does;

1st char dies. tags in 2nd.

opponent's ammy does super.

SOMEHOW dead wolverine is tagged in, then i guess game realizes OH SHIT THIS DUDE DEAD, and brings in 2nd char. but during the whole time the super was going no damage was done as to fchamp's character except for maybe some slight chip the last few milliseconds of a long super.

Dr. Dogg and Rikuto have been more positive since the e3 build. I talked with Dr. Dogg a bit at e3, and he seemed to think it has a chance. I think the worry in the community comes from Master having the development team's ear and him wanting the game to pretty much be DoA4.2.

Also, a lot of the DoA community just plain doesn't know what a "good" fighter is. What the DoA community believes makes the game unique are the things that make it a bad fighting game. I've been posting on FSD and get frustrated because people just say, "Well go play something else," when the problem is that people ARE playing something else. It's not going to be difficult to ignore DoA when TTT2 comes out so soon before it.

Critical bursts and unholdable stuns are a step in the right direction to making it competitive, imo, but we'll see how far that goes. I think with TTT2 coming out two weeks before, it's going to be a real uphill battle for DoA to gain traction.

This is true. I thought Gamerbee would be free since /I/ can beat him.

Lol....to bad this glitch is already named....otherwise I'd nominate OH SHIT THIS DUDE DEAD, or OSTDD.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH

THE WOLVERINE TECH!!!!!

Bo2BG.gif

Some of those are fadc's srk's though. There is no risk to do them if you have meter (except when Wong did raw ultra which then its a huge risk). The ones he did in the gamerbee match are far worse. He did a few times and got punished for it, and then he did it again and still got punished for it.

Yeesh... I'm in Sacramento. I looked at the map to see if I'd ever be passing by on the way to a tourney; if only you were next to I-5 instead of 99! It sounds like I'm going to ReveLAtions in August w/ Hi I'm Nasty to make up for not being able to get him to Curleh Mustache 4, so maybe you can figure out a way to get to a town off of I-5 and catch a ride the rest of the way with us. Just a thought.

Ah, so what would be needed for it to be considered competitive (sorry for lack of DOA knowledge), because there have been post from the past 2 days with a lot of negativity about some stuff including Master's big article.

I was really looking forward to buying DOA5 for a fun fighter and if it was going to be competitive was going to buy it day 1 CE possibly.
