I just saw Sigur Rós mentioned in the Finnish thread. I used to visit last.fm pretty frequently which is how I've heard of Eluvium, but I've never listened to any of the man's music. I like Sigur Rós well enough, but they're like Animal Collective in that I heard about them, listened to an album (Takk for Sigur Rós, Merriweather Post Pavilion for Animal Collective) and really loved what I heard and then tried going through their other stuff and was completely turned off.

Eluvium is a mix of ambient, shoegazing, and piano music depending on which album you listen to. If you like any of that type of music I would highly recommend them.

Takk is a great album by Sigur Rós. My personal favorite of theirs is Ágætis byrjun.

What's your favorite album by him? I'll listen to whatever you think's best.

And it's on Spotify! I'll give it a listen then.

Stars of the Lid produces some of my favorite ambient music, but I don't listen to too much music in general.
I haven't heard of Stars of the Lid so I will have to look at them.

I love Copia. Has such a sad sound, though. Gotta be in the mood for it.

I find you awesome! Some of their music could definitely make me sad if I am in that mood. I actually find most of Eluvium to be very relaxing so I like to listen to them if I am stressed. Copia is my favorite album overall by them but Zerthis Was a Shivering Human Image from Lambent Material is my favorite song to cool down to. Taken from Talk Amongst the Trees works wonders as well.

I hope you like them! And Their Refinement of the Decline is my favorite album of theirs. It took me a while to like them, and like all of my favorite bands, I can't tell if I really love them or if I've just wanted to like them so much that I have Stockholm syndrome, but either way, I think they're great.

Ambient music owns. Sigur is okay.

Is Sigur ros consider ambient? They don't feel like it. I always thought ambient required no vocals at all, fake language or not.

I'm more of a metal fan though, and neoclassical darkwave stuff, is a really corny name for a genre to be honest, but well thats how they call it.

Oh, didn't know that. He's a large enough name though, and there was a decent sized thread about it. His soundtrack for Moon was great.

Animal Collective isn't for everyone, I suppose, but maybe you should give Feels and Strawberry Jam another shot. I personally felt MPP was somewhat dull.

I am listening to A Meaningless Moment Through a Meaning(less) Process right now. I am really liking it so far.

Wikipedia states Sigur Rós as being Ambient and Post-rock but I have always found them to be hard to place in a genre since I don't think they quite fit into either of those categories.

I love Sigur Ros. <3 Can't wait to see them in August at Lollapalooza. Was lucky enough to catch Jonsi during his solo tour, shit was epic. This will be my 2nd time seeing Sigur Ros, first was in 2002 for the ( ) tour.

I hate you in a very friendly way.

I saw them on their Med Sud tour and and it was a religious experience for me no matter how stupid that sounds. I just wish they had Amiina touring with them at the time as their backup band because the only thing that could have made it more amazing was if they had the classical instruments backing them up.

Jonsi came through my state when he was on tour but I couldn't make it which was a tragedy. They haven't announced here for their Valtari tour but I really wish they would.

Well, I know barely any of the bands. So whatever you guys choose for Friday better be fucking good. >_<!!!!

What album did you start with? Merriweather sounds different than most of their other music, and I feel like I spoiled myself by listening to that album first, rather than following the progression of their sound from album to album. I suppose it's time to reveal my shitty music taste, but there were quite a few tracks on MPP that sounded like pop songs (Bluish, My Girls, Summertime Clothes) that I latched onto, but most of the more experimental tracks didn't do much for me. I'll give Feels another listen, as Grass is the only song that I really remember (although I had fun trying to figure out what the lyrics were). I haven't given Strawberry Jam much of a chance either, and it took a while for Merriweather Post Pavilion to grow on me, so I should give the other albums the same time.

oh. your ban wasn't permanent.

Damn. Right?
Man, you guys are nasty.

What bands do you listen to that are neoclassical darkwave? I like some darkwave bands but am not sure if they would be neoclassical as well.

Dead Can Dance has some stuff, but I listen regulary to Arcana (and Barjo's other project, Sophia)), Dargaard, Elend, Dark Sanctuary and Narsillion, maybe some others scape me right now.

Whats interesting is that all these bands are actually very different, but I found them when I went looking for similar bands, starting with Dead Can Dance, is also interesting how they are closely related to metal acts, even though the music isn't metal at all. But is common to find metal fans that dig this music. When I was younger I went looking for medieval music or similar, which lead me to Dead Can Dance, which lead me to all the others.

Dead Can Danse was introduced to me by some metal guy.

What album did you start with?
I can't remember the exact order . . . that was back in '05 or '06.

First album was Feels, I think. Then maybe Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished / Danse Manatee. Then Sung Tongs, and Strawberry Jam came out (and Person Pitch), but I wasn't too keen on it at first. The rest is in order.

They also have several EPs, all of which are good, imo.

super specific genre label are the worst

Thank you! I am copying this list down so I can look them up as I have time.

I haven't heard of most of those groups but I think Dead Can Dance is great! They are coming to concert here next month but I am skipping it because I need to save money.(Says the person who just bought a shirt and a new pair of glasses) I have heard of Dark Sanctuary but have never looked into them.

When I think Darkwave I am more thinking the sub-genre of goth rock. Bella Morte, The Cruxshadows, and Clan of Xymox. I like Black Tape for a Blue Girl and Cocteau Twins as well but they are more ethereal.

are the only ones on this list I've heard of. Didn't care much for Biosphere.

And besides the albums aforementioned, I've only heard of Sung Tongs from that list. Guess I have a summer project.

Neoclassical darkwave is the best genre I've ever heard of. It's going to dethrone idm as my favorite genre name.

haha I think so too, I would call it "medieval/classical like music made by modern composers, with some liberties and rock/pop elements", but maybe is too long for a genre :P. Maybe I'm just a sucker for female choral, ethereal voices, which is the only thing those bands have in common. I honestly don't know how those bands ended up getting that label, I'm just going by what wikipedia told me. I wanted to organize my music library and started to check their genres, to my surprise they were categorized as such.

Oh I see! I've heard of Black Tape for a Blue Girl and Cocteau Twins, so maybe what I like is more ethereal stuff.

And it would be a dream com true to go to a Dead Can Dance concert, is the disadvantage of living in southamerica, at least theres a decent metal scene and even medium to small bands end up in these places, but a for a band like DCD is like the last place they think of :(

Day two in Montreal. Such an amazing city. The men are equally so. Scruffy and beefy for miles. Hitting the gay clubs tomorow night. Will post further findings.

I literally haven't heard of a single band on that list. I thought I was cool too :(
It just means you're really cool. Every now and then I go into a music thread and I don't know any of what's being talked about, so I just hit the back button and listen to the same stuff I always do. Ever since I deleted my last.fm I've been so boring.

Maybe, I am really bad with music genres and just pretend to know a lot about them. =P

I would really love to go to Dead Can Dance but they really picked a crappy month to come here. I wish they were coming here just a couple months later and then I could have gone.

I know these guys. Atrium Carceri and Tim Hecker are probably my favorite of these.

Though in my opinion Autechre make the best ambient/drone that there is. This example in particular is more intense than it has any right to be. Though if music were relationships Autechre would be my steady (or I would be their stalker, idk)

Dead Can Dance are also great, easily my second favorite band of all time.

Why "straight crushes" are straight!!

Every ..time I swear "never again!!!".

I just saw that I have the second highest number of posts in this thread. This is so embarrassing.

To be honest I'm not either lately. Used to be one of my favourites though.
I've been looking through music threads looking for new stuff. Everything I listen to is music I've been listening to for the past few years, and while it all feels nice and homey, it's also a bit boring.

So I spent the night with him this time. We went and ate at a buffet with his friend after I got off work, then we went and watched Madea, and then we went back to his place. He went upstairs to make sure everyone was asleep and they were so I went in the room. SEXUALLY EXPLICIT, not for the faint of heart
We cuddled and kissed and stuff. Then he had sex with me, and then me with him (my first time as a top, so it was awkward). He ended up getting off massively, LOL. I stayed all night and we just held each other and kissed. Then this morning I was getting horny again so I started taking off my clothes and we had sex again.

I just got back home now. Certainly an interesting night.
