New New Super Mario Bros 2 trailer

Man, I'm really not feeling this game at all. This whole coin collecting thing is not for me I guess. I do love collecting the big coins but I really don't care about the smaller ones. Doesn't look as interesting either but that's my opinion.

Looks uninspired.

Do you even do anything with the coins? Like trade them in for upgrades or rewards or something?

Still seeing no purpose to all the coin collecting and I keep feeling there is no point in getting this.
I hope there is some sort of major reason for collecting tons of coins like in the first Wario Land. I think there is a lot of potential for the idea if motivation beyond what's typical in a Mario game (1 UP's and score) is there.

It's just part of the story. You have to collect 1 million coins so, now you have an excuse to follow the coins around a level no matter what kind of crazy platforming you have to do. 1 million coins might not sound like a lot, but it is. Someone did some quick math based on how many coins they got in the E3 demo and said it would take over 50 hours of play time to get to 1 million at that rate. So, you're really going to want to get every coin you see, any way you can, so you can beat the game.

Now that I think of it, this trailer made me want to pick up 3D Land. That's right, I have a 3DS and not that game. Crazy?

whats with all the rounded corners, amount of power ups, and "suits" plaforms that pop up over every hole. im going toassume thats easy mode. but really mario has more than jumped the shark. wheres the ingenuity and style like super mario world.

No, that's just someone with the GamePad controller directly affecting gameplay.

The point was to shove two gimmicky/poorly conceived Mario games out the door by X-mas so Reggie could say: "Sup Nintendo fans, in-between all the Nintendo fitness and party game apps EAD been slaving over the last decade, we decided to toss ya a bone and give you TWO Mario games this winter in all his glory!"

Our Response: "Free roam Mario! OMFG in HD! EPICS""

Reggie: "Oh no, no. That would actually take work, instead, we just up-resed the last 2D side-scroller and toss a few blur and lens effects so that the game could take advantage of HD! Look rounded corners! Also! Here's that Pikmin 3 Wii game we've finished two years ago... Looks slightly better than a 360 game, also no online play... Pikmin 3 was such a distraction we had to stop any more innovative development on it so we could go back and finish Nintendoland! Enjoy!"

Ye...I'm bitter.

I'll be disgusted if Wario doesn't make an appearance.

In reaility, this is looking more and more pretty good. And above all, crazy. What lacked in NSMB for DS, but was present in NSMBWii was the crazyness, the times where you would have said "WTF?" for certain moments / levels. It felt boring because it felt like something done with pre-fabricated pieces tied together. NSMBWii was fresh, with secrets and crazy moments instead. And NSMB2, between golden enemies, only-running levels, Racoon Mario ( and so, verticality ) does seem crazy, indeed. Can't wait, actually.

Looks good but I'm the coin thing better have a purpose like Peach's Kingdom is in dept to Bowser or something ...................
It'll end up as an unexplained gimmick isn't it :/

I'll have to see what the rewards or incentives for collecting coins are before judging the idea, but that coin noise is quite... repetitive.

Day 1 for me anyway, throwbacks to Mario Bros. 3 is enough for my nostalgic purchase alone.

LOL at people saying there's still no point to the coin collecting.

That's the point of the entire game.

Uh, okay. So the back of the box reads, "The object of the game is to collect as many coins as you can! Because when you do...you get a lot of coins!"

So the coins really don't do anything? you just...collect them with no rewards other than seeing the number go higher and higher? a real shame

...I think he's just joking. The developers already said that they wouldn't tease about reaching the one million mark if there weren't anything of value.

Nintendo Twist: Wario is actually Mario from the future after fully succumbing to his gold (coin) fever.

Not really a fan of the golden pity p.

Jeeze people.

That first part looked interesting, far as I can tell it's a level where you can't actually stop running. So that's a neat new idea.
