Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Guild Wars desperately needed an AH.

Its pretty boring standing in Kamadan, cycling through your trade wares.

When it came down to it I got used to it and in total it only took me about 3 days of trading to get everything I needed. Be sure to go to EOTN for minis.

Any place to P/C? I go to GWG and the prices seem unreasonable...

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/minipet-everlasting-tonic-price-guide-t10363615.html

Trying to sell a Zhu Hanuku for 70k, but didn't get a bite.
http://argos-soft.net/GwEstimator/
This site is the bible when it comes to selling/trading. Looks like Zhu goes for 50-70k nowadays. A damn shame since that's one of the cooler minipets imo. Also as Jira said check EotN for minipets and things that have something to do with HoM. I also found a lot of rich people who were willing to pay a fair amount for some of my rarer minipets in EotN. Kamadan is definitely the best for trading though. However I found a lot of really good deals in Lions Arch a while back.
Also, wow has the minipet market ever gone downhill. I sold a Zhu around a year ago for double digit ectos.

Yep, Argos is the best site for price checking.

Also, when doing trading, turn off all sounds but the UI sounds and set that to max so you can run in a window and do other stuff while waiting for a PM. Oh and pressing the up arrow in the chat will put the last thing you sent to chat into the text field for easy spamming. Prime time trading for NA is something like 5-10PM PDT and then primetime euro trading is about 2am PDT.

For Hero's Handbook grinding, which mission would be fastest to blow through?

Also, was that 1100 gold thing a one time thing? I didn't even realize what I was doing when I did it.

1100 gold thing?

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Against_the_Charr

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Curse_of_the_Nornbear

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Blood_Washes_Blood

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/A_Time_for_Heroes

You only need 10 pages to get the amount of rep needed for each faction and you have 5 pages by default so do those 5.

The handbook guy offered me to fill up all my pages for 1100 gold.

Thanks.

Edit: Wait, doesn't 10 only give 4000 rep? I need 26k rep in total, right?

Oh right yeah you'll pay for pages of the book that you've already done since you didn't have the book on you. Yeah 10 is 4k, sorry about that, but you only need 26k total so do a full book twice and be sure to grab the rep buff when in asura and norn zones for rep on mob kills there.

Curse of the Nornbear, Against the Charr and A Time for Heroes are the quickest. You can take multiple copies of the book (talk to the NPC, put the book in storage, talk to them again) and then just swap around the order in your inventory since the first book gets filled. Although if this is for armor then you should only need another 3k rep since you get 1k for each mission in normal mode and 20k for a full book.

Been out of the loop a bit lately, have a couple questions regarding the EU guild.

What server will we be playing come launch?
Will there be significant GAF presence, or is everyone just rolling U.S server?

We're actually looking for someone from the EU to volunteer as an Officer so we have somebody to basically represent GAF's needs on the EU server. This includes helping to select a server.

Since you can join guilds not on your server, there's no need for a separate EuroGAF guild, but we want there to be an officer who represents their interests. Officers basically just answer questions and help with guild 'stuff' like invites, promotions, maybe some bank management. Nothing difficult.

Interested?

We'll just have to wait and see what happens in BWE3 and then launch.

Oh, I agree. It's far too early to tell anyway. It's just some kind of gut feeling I got during the BWEs. I may very well end up being completely wrong about this.

On another note - can someone point me to where they announced those rather extensive changes to the Engineer? I remember skimming a few posts about it, but I can't seem to find anything official right now.

Also, if you are still missing a key for BWE3, you might want to quote this post!

Hey Guys,

One of my closest friends whom I play MMO's with has fallen quite ill and has spent the last week in hospital due to a sudden autoimmune attack (first time it's happened). A bit of background, we both levelled in champions online and 80-85 when Cata came out, as well as 1-50 in SWTOR and a fair bit of EVE. He hasn't been able to get GW2 yet due to the fact he's had to spend all his money on medical bills. As such I was wondering if there was any place I could get a beta key for him so we can play together during the next beta weekend while he recovers?

If It's too hard to get a beta key I might just buy the game for him, so I would also like to ask if there's anywhere doing specials at the moment?

Much appreciated,
Arksy.

I really wish I could help but I only have a beta key that works in America. :( It's a shame as I really would love to help you guys. I hope that your friend makes it out okay, improves his situation financially and that you guys do get around to enjoying Guild Wars 2.

Hmmm, yeah i guess i could be if it's nothing too stressful. Thing is, if barely anyone is rolling EU then i'd like to roll the main GAF server so i can play with you guys.

http://www.guildwars2hub.com/features/interviews/profession-and-traits-interview-jon-peters

Jon: The engineer is the first profession we have addressed since the last BWE. Changes have been made to many skills and to the trait lines as well. The previous list of traits contained many holdovers from the old trait system that did not fit into the new tier paradigm.

Jon: Every single one of the kits has been updated and improved in the last few days. We will gather feedback on those improvements in the next BWE and continue to work from there. I’ll give you an example, because I am feeling generous. :-)

Mine Kit is no longer a kit. It is a single mine that works as the elements of the kit did, but now, when you detonate that mine, it knocks enemies back and removes boons. This means that you can throw it at your feet and then blast people away from you, or you can throw it past a fleeing enemy and detonate it to blast them back toward you. The tool belt has been replaced with a “drop mine field around my location” skill, which toggles to “detonate mine field.”

If It's too hard to get a beta key I might just buy the game for him, so I would also like to ask if there's anywhere doing specials at the moment?

Quote the post above you if somebody didn't swipe it already!

Best of luck to your friend, hope he gets well soon.

I seem to recall performance being just fine for EU players rolling on NA servers. We really don't have a running tally of EU players, so it's hard to say how many there will be. This is exactly the kind of thing we want an EU Officer for, I feel like we've seriously been neglecting our EuroGAF brothers and things are going to end up as last minute decisions for them.

I don't want to say "Roll on Gate of Madness" because I don't want latency issues to ruin the game for folks. I also don't want to say "Roll on Gandara" if there's only going to be 4 or 5 people there and the rest just taking a chance and going to the NA server.

Any EU Gaffers want to comment or share their thoughts? I'd love it if we could get a bunch of people testing latency in the next BWE to see if everyone rolling on the same server is viable or not.

Very sorry to hear about your friend. I hope he/she gets well soon :(

As for keys, I am not sure. Would the cheapest way be to pre-order on Amazon?

Sooo, is there anything wrong in just playing with friends on a random EU server and then visit GAF on Gate of Madness whenever I'd feel like it or if no one's online from "my guys"? Guilds don't care about servers, right?

'Cause that's what I planned so far :D

Yeah, if someone could test the latency on U.S servers it would help the EU guys who are on the fence about which server. It's most likely that my IRL friends will want to stick with an EU server anyways, if so i'll put myself forward for EU officer, hopefully we'll get a reasonable turn out of gaffers. Would be nice to somehow get a rough number before launch, though.

No, that should work perfectly fine. The only problem is you won't be able to play WvW with GAF, but if you're okay with that, I can't think of any other disadvantage of that strategy. We had people from other servers in our guild in the previous betas, so cross server guild chat works great.

I have the option to preorder this from gamefly with my 10% member discount. I just wanted to see if anyone's got a gamefly digital service nightmare story to tell before I bite the bullet.

I can't say anything about Gamefly's service, but I'm pretty sure most retailers of this game just give you a code to register with ArenaNet, and you can download the client straight from ArenaNet.

Edit: Client is here: http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Gw2.exe

35/50 bitches!!!

Anyone want to give me Zaishen Key so I can get the 3 PVP points in HoM!

Anyone notice how the complaint posts have disappeared ever since we found out the date for last beta event a most importantly the release date. It is so nice and peaceful.

You guys think they will wipe the characters for BWE3?

You can be on any server you want and still chat with/represent GAF. You'll be able to Guest on Gate of Madness for PVE/sPVP. The only thing you won't be able to do with GAF is WvW.

And thanks Retro for that Engineer information.

No problem. Next week we'll see just what kind of changes are in store (unless the patch notes leak)

Yep. We should have asked EU players to specify that in the community thread, only a few did. I think being on an EU server is probably the best bet for most EuroGAFers, as it means the latency will never be an issue, the time zones will be correct, and you'll still be able to do damn near everything with the guild anyways.

Yeah, I never quite understood the "OMG, i am not gonna pay 4 beta with no release dat, whut a scam!!!!1" comments. Like somebody goes to all the trouble to make a game just to run off with that crazy pre-order cash. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they got a huge influx of cash and a nice shot in the arm... but I don't think they'll break even on GW2 until launch, when people pick up the game at retail and the cash shop kicks in hard.

You guys think they will wipe the characters for BWE3?

I don't think they'll wipe our characters, no. They haven't so far and they haven't said anything yet. I'd be willing to bet they keep them, but if not, what have we really lost? We'll be playing in a month and change anyways.

Jesus... a month... seems like I've been waiting for this game to come out forever and now it's a month.

I'm not sure how much has been spent on the production of GW2, but generally MMOs have massive development costs and it'd be surprising if they break even even on launch day. They will probably get a lot of money through the cash shop though, those things work wonders for other games, I'm sure it won't be long before ANet break even.

I think the main reason they did the pre-purchase thing was to get money straight away so that they weren't forced to launch the game early because they ran out of money.

I'll have a go at checking what the latency is like on NA servers for an EU player, but I think the safest best would be for EU players to play on the EU servers.

Yep, I dunno if they'll ever release their budget but it has to be some ridiculously high number considering the game has been in development for 6 years. I'm not sure ArenaNet needed an influx of cash, but I'm sure that once they had it they felt a little better with some cushioning. I can hardly blame them with all the craziness going on lately (38 studios going belly up, SWTOR-tanic, etc.).

As far as EU servers go, I think if people want to risk latency on an NA server they're welcome to try, but I'd recommend EU players stay on EU servers for their own sanity. I'd hate for people to commit to an NA server and the game end up being unplayable due to lag.

not sure if old, but there is a good information for end game.

Was posted yesterday, almost as it happened (GAF was down, of all times). Still worth adding for the new page, there's some damn good info in there.

I don't think this is a game I would want to play on a high latency server. Far too many skills that rely on quick reactions and you have dodge as well as skillshots playing important roles within the combat system.

Yep. Not worth the risk, even though I'm sure ANet's netcode is gonna be perfectly awesome. There's always stuff that can go wrong and it's not worth being unable to play the game until things get fixed.

Didn't Arena.net say they already made all their dev costs back just with the pre-orders being so high?

If they did, it's news to me. They won't comment on how many pre-purchases they've even gotten, only that it 'exceeded expectations'.

Oh right yeah you'll pay for pages of the book that you've already done since you didn't have the book on you. Yeah 10 is 4k, sorry about that, but you only need 26k total so do a full book twice and be sure to grab the rep buff when in asura and norn zones for rep on mob kills there.

Damnit, I shoulda wasted it on Asuran or Norn instead of Ebon. I can grind Ebon pretty easily with that scorpion catapult.

As I was reading that, I was thinking I wonder if it will seem like GW2 didn't sell well in the first week because most of the hardcore people have already pre-purchased it.

I guess they can probably include the pre-purchase salves with the press release that usually comes out when the game goes live.

Hope this game sells well with newcomers too not just the ones that have been following it for the last 7 years.

Shame on you Retro, it will be 5 years in August. Also in regards to latency, I've read about people playing on NA from Japan and AUS with no latency issues.

Alright. What is the consensus on most/least played classes? I know Ele and Warrior have to be high. I'm really debating on Necro now, but I can't seem to find any good videos with commentary (IE Team Paradigm, etc) on how to play the class, what skills are/aren't good, etc.

Any suggestions?

On 10-14 hours played on Henge from southern Italy with a 6Mb/s bandwidth, during BWE2 and the last stress test, I only had two noticeable lag spikes, and in both cases really minor instances: healt loss for falling damage registering half a second after the fall.
Since I managed to get some friends to buy the game, I'll most likely end up playing on Gandara, if EUGaf will choose that one, but I for one would have probably chosen to roll on GoM otherwise.

ANet netcode: 9+

I made a little writeup on playing Necros if you're interesting, but I only got mine to like level 20 so it's not even close to comprehensive.

Yes please!

I'm downloading the client on my POS laptop running Windows Vista so I can sneak in some beta time next week at my wife's family reunion. I have my priorities straight!

Edit:

Server must be getting slammed. I've received "Download failed" 3 times now.
