So is it mathematically possible for this movie to beat out The Avengers on opening weekend? The 3D must've been a huge factor in TA's gross.

Mathematically? Sure. I think you can go as high as 260-270m if you sell out every single seat.

Wouldn't count on TDKR actually surpassing 207m OW though.

Regal and AMC have multiple theaters in large cities playing the movie straight for 72 hours. It might have a chance? imax tax is greater than 3d tax. If anything, this is probably going to be the biggest imax movie but I'm curious how much that would feed in to overall BO.

"You know Christopher Nolan is having a great day when he starts quoting Macgruber."

None of this makes sense. The world doesn't make sense. This is my Two-Face moment, someone give me a coin and a gun.

The question is how frontloaded the opening weekend will be. Will it make a huge percentage off the midnight, then taper off? Or will it have a great midnight (cmon, we know it will have an insane midnight showing. This is one thing I would make a bet on it beating Avengers at), but how big will Saturday and Sunday be.

Avengers had a good midnight, but not amazing. It just kept selling out shows all weekend. While Harry Potter had the most insane midnight ever, but quickly died back down.

I feel like it would have a really strong overall weekend. Maybe not as hot on Sunday if anything. But there are def people who won't do midnight or friday to "avoid" crowds.

So apparently there is no reserved seating for the trilogy at the AMC I'm going to...how early should I line up if the thing starts at 6? I'm thinking an hour and a half...

If this gets incredible word of mouth, I have no doubt it'll be crazy for the whole weekend. This is something that I think a lot of people overlook about The Avengers OW; it went up 12% on Saturday compared to Friday excluding midnights, which is better than basically any super hero film since the first Spider-Man. And I think you can really attribute that to how well received it was.

Two hours minimum. Seriously. And if you are the only one there, then you get the best seats in the house.

I'm pretty blown away people are so excited by this. Outside of Ledgers Joker, what was so good about the last Batman that people are so ready to flock to it? I guess people liked Batman Begins more that I thought. I just don't see it. The script looks horrible.

The script is out?

You're blown away that the sequel to one of the highest grossing films ever is highly anticipated.

Seriously, stop trolling.

Do we really have to downplay TDK's accomplishments just to be contrarian? It was an incredible film just like Begins, and just like Rises will be.

I personally don't get it but at the same time I completely get it. I hated the second half of begins and anything not involving joker was OK to just "good...I guess" in the dark Knight but still... It's batman.

It's also the end of the series which means shit is gonna go down. How many story archs decidedly end in Hollywood these days? It's very rare.

The rarest.

If i go to the lincoln sq theatre on sunday night and wait there till the batman premiere on monday(16th) will I be close enough to the red carpet to touch anne hathaway
Ok, I've sobbered up. Basically, if I show up to the cinema at NY at about 11pm on sunday evening will I be close to the front of the crowds at the monday premiere for when the actors are walking about?

I am in SoCal and one of the few real IMAX theaters around has only the midnight showing sold out. Everything else is up for grabs still.

Confirmed: Nolan watches MacGruber.

I'm gonna need to watch this, hahaha.

Rewatched TDK today. BB last week. Both fantastic films. But I gotta say... I definitely prefer TDK. BB does a ton of stuff really well and it's great, but I find TDK more interesting and rewatchable.

Finally got my tickets for true IMAX at King of Prussia Stadium. 2 hours away, but goddamn it's worth the $57 bucks I paid for me and my fiancee and friend.

T-minus... less than a full week until implosion of unadulterated joy.

i would have been down if I didn't already have my tickets, NYC Imax is about the same distance from me as my King of Prussia Stadium IMAX. I actually was considering it when I was choosing IMAX theaers, but I decided I didn't feel like braving NYC foot/car traffic. Hope you have fun though Mully

Thanks.

I couldn't afford the IMAX marathon but the screens at the Burbank AMC are nice and the seats are comfortable, so I'll take it.

456 minutes of gloriousness.

Which one? Irvine, Rave, Universal Citywalk? I might end up doing the Edwards in Ontario (about a 40 minute drive for me).

When I saw Dark Knight, it was the busiest I've ever seen a movie theater. It was at Montage Mountain and we went to the midnight showing. There were thousands of people, pretty much all screens were Dark Knight havens, and there was a ton of individuals dressed up, making it seem like a mini-ComicCon.

Then when we went in, it was loudest movie theater I had ever been in. Screaming, clapping for every word, insult shouting.

We sat there for the previews, and some dudes thought it'd be hilarious to yell at Harry Potter references the whole time. After the preview for the Terminator movie that sucked, they yelled "FIFTEEN POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR!"

Then when the opening started, it finally got a little more quiet, but still it was loud enough that one would have to talk loudly to hear the person next to you. But then this one guy started screaming some things at the top of his lungs and people got quiet completely and it was just him speaking.

"Let's hear it for Christopher Nolan, director of this fine movie!"

Everyone cheered. Mini-standing ovation.

"Let's hear it for Christian Bale, the Batman himself!"

Everyone cheered, once again.

"And for Heath Ledger, the fuckin' Joker!"

Everyone in complete silence. Crickets. Even signs of disgust. Then after a few more moments of silence the guy yells:

"TOO SOON!?"

Crowd erupts into laughter, we're already eight or so minutes into the movie and I've heard like nothing of the movie. It was like that. And I suspect the ushers were so swamped they didn't know how to police the theaters. It was chaos

So, compared to TDK how much of this movie was shot with Imax cameras? This is my first real IMAX movie, so I don't know what to expect also.

Terrible experience
I would've been sooooooooo pissed if that had happened at my midnight showing. I was a little worried when I showed up and saw the biggest line I've ever seen for a movie, but my screening went really well. No one said a word as soon as the movie started and the only big reaction was the gasp at the pencil scene. People laughed at the funny lines of course, but no one was annoying laughing at every joke or making a comment after every scene, so I was really happy.

Less than 24 hours later, I was back seeing it again with a different group of friends at the same theatre and had the exact same experience. Except this time, before the movie started, there were these two teenagers dressed as Batman and Joker and they had a mini fight in the aisle between the bottom half of seats and the upper half. It was awesome. They didn't even know each other as they were sitting in completely different spots and I saw them before we went into the theatre and they weren't together in line or anything. They really went at it too and some really cool costumes/makeup. The kid dressed as Batman ended up sitting a row in front of us and my buddy and I got a picture of him and gave him 10 bucks to pay for his ticket, haha.

Plus I got seats that I had to crane my neck upwards, so that sucked too.

After about 15 minutes into the movie, it finally did get quiet, but before that it was just what the heck did I get myself into feeling. One guy was fucking making fun of an old lady 'cause she fell asleep, but they were doing it loud and obnoxiously so her grandkids heard and were really hurt.

I did go the next day again and had an infinitely more enjoyable experience.

This time I'm going to king of prussia stadium so hopefully it's better
