He compared TDK to the Bush administration, and went on a tirade of how america doesn't care for heroes like Batman anymore because of the pessimism involving the character. Instead America embraced the Avengers because suddenly we care more about optimism and light-hearted superheroes. He made an incredible (lol) culture study on how we perceive superheroes now.

So he judges movies based on inferred (not necessarily implied) political bents?

So then what's his agenda against? Superhero films with Christian Bale OR Andrew Garfield? I don't have to explain his rationale, YOU'RE the ones who think he's on an agenda because he didn't like your favorite movie that you haven't fucking seen yet.

Except I didn't say he has an agenda. And I have seen it.

So thanks. Bye.

Why does Foreign Jackass come into this thread anyway?

He's gone at length about how much he dislikes Nolan's films, so why is he in a hype thread for one?

If you guys can't see BB as an obvious allegory about 9/11, then maybe you should watch it again. But then that'd be the 134th time, right?

Anyways, the reviewer might be stupid, but that doesn't give him an agenda. And amongst all the reviewers that are backing this movie, there's also a huge bunch of dumb assholes. Peter Travers, for instance, is one of the dumbest, most useless reviewers working nowadays.
You are truly a jackass.

And I have seen it.
You could also try to answer the question.

For the record this isn't even my most anticipated movie of the year. I would watch The Hobbit and Skyfall over it and like I've said I don't really hold TDK up on a pedestal. Thus I'm not butthurt or whatever over reviews, I couldn't care less what other people think about something.

I'm merely pointing out an observation somewhat backed by the critic himself.

Peter Travers, for instance, is one of the dumbest, most useless reviewers working nowadays.

I agree. I'm not defending or even trying to imply that the positive reviews are right as rain. Just that Faraci is hilariously guided.

the average rating being 8.8/10 is surprising, usually it's lower than the rt meter.

the positive reviews don't consist of 3/5s or 7/10. they are mostly glowing with 5/5s, 4.5/5s, 9/10s etc...

I'd prefer it if reviews' end rating was a recommendation to see it or a recommendation to give it a miss. Whilst numbers, percentages, stars and letters provide some degree of precision over how good an experience might be, the end decision is always going to be whether the consumer chooses to see it or give it a miss.

But what if a reviewer wants to recommend a movie more than another one? Cause, you know, there are thousands of movies coming out each year to choose from, so you can't really see every one of them when it's not your job.

The Dark Knight Rises: seventeen thumbs up. Stay tuned for my review on @TheVineonline tomorrow. RISE, DAMMIT.

If any of you is going to ask who this guy is or lookup his name on Google you should quit watching movies

Pretty much. Nolan is just too heavy-handed with the themes he wants to explore in his Batman films, and they often end up being the least interesting aspects of this franchise.

I watched Batman begins last night and was shocked at how many times "fear" was said. And someone in this thread made me notice that half this movie is the characters repeating lines to each other.

Though upon viewing this again after TDK, Bales bat voice was COMPLETELY fine in this movie. Not sure why it was changed.

Got tickets to an 8:15 IMAX (well, digital LIEMAX) on Friday night. I very rarely pay extra for the AMC's fake IMAX screen, but seeing as almost half the film was shot in IMAX, I would like to see the full frame in those scenes, even if it isn't 5-8 stories tall. Plus, the sound in the LIEMAX theatres is just as good as it is in a real IMAX. Now I just have to pray they weren't lazy enough to leave the 3D filter on the projector.

he has a twitter? LOL wow

Are people here tracking RT for fun and/or to kill time? No one really cares what a critics opinion is, right?

Everyone cares. Everyone except you and me I guess. I mostly find the whole thing annoying though. Every time a review gets posted here, it sounds exactly like the last review. And we can't even read them for fear of spoilers. So what's the point?

I'm really sorry that you got spoiled, but will you guys please stop talking about the nature of the spoilers lest the rest of us read something we don't want to.

Again, confirming that something is accurate spoilers is just as bad as spoiling. So whoever just confirmed those were real spoilers is being real stupid.

I said the same thing the last time a junior poster posted some confirmed spoilers last week.

Apparently people don't get the concept of avoiding spoilers all together, which includes confirming if something posted is real or not.

I think it's quite fascinating to follow the development of this trilogy. People were mad indifferent to Begins when it came out. It had relatively decent reviews, but it wasn't being widely considered as a great comic book movie. Begins didn't rake in too much money either, but enough to justify a sequel.

The transition to TDK shows how a good marketing strategy and a memorable character can really change the game.

No.

The reviews might not have been amazing but fan reaction was great. Going in it didn't have too much hype and was coming off of the previous movies which killed the character essentially. But for its budget and expectations, BB did far better than anyone anticipated. It also broke the IMAX record for the time.

Its one of the reason TDK was so hyped. It was built on the good word of mouth and positive response from BB. And I suspect a lot of reviewers piggy back off of other big time, or top critic, reviewers. So when TDK started getting praise unlike other comic book movies, most all critics viewed the same.

Well maybe he doesn't like superhero films in general because he finds them too shallow, and he doesn't like shallow films?

Nah, it's way more probable that the guy just wants to WATCH THE FANBOYS BURN.

For someone who is too good for superhero movies, doesn't think Nolan is a good director, and has little interest in the new movie you sure do come back to this thread quite a bit.

We get it. You are a troll or even worse really believe the BS you spew but what's the point now? Why keep coming back? You act is old and its not funny. Most, if not, all know this is your game and you do it from time to time.

There are enough forums, sub forums, topics, and threads for you to go where you actually enjoy what is being discussed.

As for the actual reviews. A negative review is just as legit as a positive one, especially when it might offer some real insight over issues in a movie compared to the mass positive reviews which may not offer anything new.

BUT when a negative review is from a known troll critic who has gone on and on in the past about how he doesn't like Nolan and his movies and or the character of Batman, it is discredited. If for some reason Ebert gives this movie a bad review I will take it seriously. He loved the first two, along with other Nolan movies, and his impressions of these movies have matched mine. So if he offers a negative review I will take it far more seriously than I would ever take a reviewer who we knew long before would hate the movie.

But I really have no idea who this guy is. Does he make movies? edit: google'd, now I know who he is.

Yeah while LiEMAX might not be as good as the real deal, the sound is amazing.

There is no point..which is why I think this is a way for everyone to pass the time till they see the movie. Well, I hope thats what this is. There is no way someone could care that much about someone elses opinion and its effect on an aggregate score.

Are people here tracking RT for fun and/or to kill time? No one really cares what a critics opinion is, right?

i care, i will go and see movies for myself and judge it on my own but i definitely care. i loved some movies with 20% score and loathed others with 90% but i agree 80% of the time with the general consensus of a movie.

not counted towards RT but adding it as there is a positive review which is also not counted

*Fiendish glee*

It's nice when a film you're excited about gets a warm reception. It's also the first step in building a film's legacy. Audiences are the next step. Plus, I'm a gambling man.
j/k

The positive reviews are too positive to think this movie will remain in the 84 range, it will rise up to 88-92 range by the end of 230 reviews

Came to see how the review metacritic is standing and if Bat-GAF is melting down similarliy to Uncharted-GAF after Deception. Still quite civil here....

Anyway. My hypelevel is seriously dropping a bit now after reading some stuff here. If it ends up as good as BB/TDK I'm more than happy, but I guess it won't.

Beating off to reviews before the movie comes out is a fun time waster I guess, but allowing anyone else other than yourself to form even the slightest opinion about something is stupid as hell. We all do it, but why go out of your way to let it happen?
