Seriously who the fuck over the age of 12 would ever use Avatar as some standard for good films. (not implying that Batmans should be either)

the fuck is this
Since every one of his films is stellar, not really a heavy criticism to level at the film.
I'm back home, so I'm going to expand upon it some more.
TDKR definitely fills the "epic conclusion to a trilogy" quota. The stakes are higher, the action has weight, events come around full circle, characters are pushed to their limits etc. A lot of people have been bashing it for being too slow or plodding, but I didn't feel this way. It is a talky movie, but the performances from everyone were top notch. This is Bale's best performance as Batman, and those who felt that TDK took away too much of his focus should like this film. It's not split into thirds like TDK with almost even focus on Batman/Dent/Joker, this is definitely primarily a Batman film. Bale is definitely more challenged this time with the character and doesn't disappoint. The other cast members also don't hold back. Hathaway will make you a believer with her very first scene. If you are bored, go ahead and gather up all the hater posts about Hathaway being a bad choice for Catwoman because it's going to be one of the biggest crow eating moments in a long time. JGL is also a stand-out. On paper you'd think it's a fairly typical role, but he makes the character interesting and is someone you grow into rooting for. Hardy certainly has the toughest role in the film, he has to live up to an Oscar-winning performance of Batman's most famous villain with half his face covered. Hardy played his character the way he should have been played. He is certainly intimidating in each of his scenes, and his action sequences with Batman are brutal. I'm not going to lie though, there are some moments where I had no idea what he was saying. There are times when he is crystal clear, but other times I swear he just said "Bluabelbaleushelfub." I also have to give credit to Michael Caine, who doesn't have a lot of screen time compared to the other films, but he certainly doesn't phone it in and pulls out emotional body slams in every scene he's in.
Nolan's direction is also superb in this film, and the improvement of his action scenes from BB to TDKR is remarkably noticeable. Yes, there are about half a dozen helicopter shots of the landscape if you're into that sort of thing (but not as eye-catching as Inception's). The set pieces in this film are some of the most memorable in the trilogy, and there are iconic scenes and shots throughout. Not to mention I can definitely think of many scenes that will be gif'd by Saturday.
There are a lot of interesting ideas thematically. I feel the evolution of Bruce Wayne is a highlight. There are some moments scattered about that may or may not be political references and what not, but like many good stories, the characters really drive the film. However, there were quite a few parts where I thought, "... I don't know about that..." and this is definitely an easy movie to nitpick to hell (which I'm sure you guys will). Yes, that scene didn't really make sense. And that storyline was confusing. What was the point of that part again? You will have these thoughts. That's what really keeps it from being up to TDK quality.
Overall, if you enjoyed the Nolan Batman series, I can't see how you won't enjoy this film. I guess disappointment is relative, but I had high hopes for this film and I walked out of the theatre pleased. The ending is certainly awesome and that last shot... oh boy.
I usually think most of his reviews are crap, he doesn't understand good films and he loves garbage, this review was right on the money though. His image of Batman seems to be drawn from most popular media featuring the character, from which this new film completely diverges (other than the fact that Bruce Wayne is a rich guy dressed as a bat).
I think its the fanciest way I've ever seen to say my opinion is right, and everyone else is wrong.

Tell it to Alan Moore.
Without question.sculli, do you think avatar is better than dark knight rises?
It does not diverge from what Nolan has built up though. Bruce in this film is Bruce from BB and TDK. He might be horrendously fucking different than he is from Earth One continuity, or he is in The Brave and The Bold, or he is from 1970s when Robin sucks his dick in the Batcave, but who gives a fuck? It's a director's interpretation of the character.
Without question.
I give a fuck because it's awful yet people carry on like it's the best thing ever, which it really, really isn't.
If you think either I or my comment stupid that's fine it's your opinion, I was being intentionally insulting in a very non-specific sort of way purposefully, and it's only my opinion, but if I'm stupid it shouldn't bother you.
It was the only option available for this early screening. Lincoln Square IMAX here in NYC (the only one playing in true 70mm) is sold out for days, if I wanted to wait. Which I didn't.
Cameron hasn't made a great film in close to 20 years.
Avatar only came out 2-3 years ago.

Right hence why the previous statement is still correct.
Without question.
True Lies is awesome.![]()

And For specific directors, its the same handful of posters who are suddenly "polarised," obvious stuffthe way this thread has gone is so amusing to watch, cant wait for November when we have all the "Jackson has lost it" "This isnt lotr" drama. I predict it now, there is nothing better than watching parts of gaf polarised by something
Seriously guys, shut up. Every fucking thread, I swear.
James Cameron haven't done one single bad movie.
I thought Avatar was worse than Captain America. LOL WHERE AM I
...

Terminator > Terminator 2 > Aliens > True Lies > Titanic > Avatar
Terminator > Terminator 2 > Aliens > True Lies > Titanic > Avatar
I approve this list.

Honestly don't see how any fan of Batman could be mad with how the character is presented in these films.
They nailed the character and the supporting cast. Saying Alfred and Gordon are wrong, I don't even...
I don't think they or you, or anyone's opinion are stupid and never said so, being stupid is not a prerequisite for being wrong.
Also you never saw Abyss?
the football thread has no mention of james cameron
Nah, haven't yet. So many films I need to watch, so little time

How can you even get wrong with Gary Oldman?
Read my previous posts for my reasoning.
He's one step removed from Jar Jar Binks in these movies "I gotta get me one of those",he doesn't even realise that Bruce Wayne is Batman, WTF?
