In this case they use their belief system to attract people who have similar beliefs.
And they lose out on many customers who disagree.

out of 4.1 billion dollars. Not every patron's money went into that 2 million.
Monsanto

Ya know what, I "respect" that kind of honesty about bigotry. I sooooooo tired of this passive-aggressive, devil's advocate mickey mouse BULLSHIT masquerading racism/sexism/homophobia that goes around on GAF and all over the internet, that just straight up honesty is kinda refreshing. I know that's an odd thing to say, but I like people to say what they feel.
The idea that it's self-righteous to not purchase from a bigoted corporation is the exact problem with this country.
And they lose out on many customers who disagree.
No. I can respect that. It's self-righteous to use that stance to act like a prick and talk down to people who may not have the same values as you. I've never eaten at Chik-Fil-A. I don't really care to. Not a fast food chicken kind of guy. But, in my opinion, were I to go there, my responsibility stops once i hand over the money. It's them deciding what to do with it. I just wanted chicken. Their business what they do with their profits.
The issue is that patron's money allows them the flexibility to make that $2 million donation. But let's not see the forest through the trees...
It is. I had a ex girlfriend who will worked there back in college. They make you watch a bunch of videos about there Christian values and what not.Is this why they're also closed on Sundays? I hate that.

No, it isn't all.Your responsibility starts when you give money to corporations and don't care one wit what they do with it. If you're pro-gay marriage, giving money to chick fil-a is a complete contradiction. Deal with it.

Why would you think I care what you think about me?Oh please. Keep using this to rationalize your purchase towards anti-gay movements and see how far it gets with me.
Also gives them the flexibility to donate a ton more than 2 million in scholarships. Everyone spends money that many find disagreeable and offensive. Not saying it's right, but shades of morality has always been objective from person to person
Do you have a list of companies that you only do business with because you're sure they support every political agenda you believe in? That would be a cool list to see.
Free money is free money.Who fucking cares about scholarships when they donate money hatred? I could do all the good deeds for kids I wanted but it wouldn't matter if I made it a point to punch old women in the face everyday just for being old.

Here's a tip: just because you boycott one thing doesn't mean you have to boycott everything. Chick-Fil-A is an easy one because they're very transparent about their stance, and it's easy to not eat somewhere.

Right, who cares what good anyone does whenever they also do bad. Didn't you mention something about not being so shallow minded?
What this whole thing boils down to is what you value more: What they do that is good, or what they do that is bad. Everyone is free to make their decisions for themselves.
They said directly how they feel and helped to fund Prop 8. What more do you need?

I think I'm just going to steal a box of nuggets off the truck. Not only do I not financially support bigotry, I'm actually taking money out of the Devil's pocket. Plus I get to enjoy sweet, sweet Chick-fil-a nuggets. Win/Win snitches.
I agree that it's pretty easy to not eat somewhere, but Devo has made it pretty clear at this point that any sort of support toward a company that does bad things with their money is direct support of those bad things.

To simply see all things on levels of nothing more than "good" and "bad" is shallow.
I think people should be free to boycott such a company, just as Chik-fil-A has the right to be open about their Christianity, and just as how others have the right to pick their battles (and choose to continue to eat there). But there's an uncomfortable amount of guilt-tripping in this thread.

That's just it. I don't think anyone has said "You're WRONG for boycotting these guys." It's a position I have quite a bit of respect for.
But there's been plenty of "You're WRONG for not boycotting them."
People like to feel good about themselves. Some of them just have to make others feel bad in order to do so.
The guilt tripping totally reminds me of tipping elitists
It goes both ways, looking at alot of the justifications used for continuing to support CFA. There's quite a few people that have insinuated that we were silly for boycotting them, or that our efforts were wasted, or even hypocritical. That's just it. If you feel that strongly about it then don't eat there. I don't think Chik-Fil-A is going to be hurting for your cash. They will keep rolling along with everybody else's money (including mine)
...seriously?The guilt tripping totally reminds me of tipping elitists who use the same tactics.
