i cant believe that ive now seen a live action version of bane lifting batman over his head and breaking his back.

anyway, i liked how batman was barely in this movie.

i also like how across all 3 movies, bruce wayne was actually batman for, like, a few months.
haha.

edit: oh, another great moment in a fight scene was at the end when batman broke bane's mask and bane put him against a column and just started going nuts on him. you could tell bane went into a 'now i gotta get this done quick' mode.

That's another example of an incredibly well shot fight choreography. Bane's frenzied flurry of punches during that shot was ace. It was so good that I couldn't believe it was in a Nolan film.

I got nerd chills when Batman comes back for the first time in his Tumblr in that chase. That rarely happens to me, so thank you Nolan.

Yes! Easily the best part of the movie. Sucks that the gun barely got any use later on. What a waste of weapon introduction.

Bane went Kenshiro on Batman!

When Alfred told his story about hoping to see Bruce on holiday it was obvious as all shit the film would end on that, so goddamn obvious. I liked JGL and was genuinely shocked at the robin reveal, Hathway i thought was ok, Bane was cool but exited the movie with a whimper. I really disliked Talia, the scenes with the countdown clock and her racing around in the truck felt so corny.

I thought the movie had its moments but overall was pretty weird, could have be so much better. There's so much to discuss, we are pioneers in this thread, there will be endless internet debate about this film/trilogy over the next decade.

I thought it was pure fury. It was an amazing sequence.

-Nolan has finally learned to direct action scenes, somewhat. Not perfect, but punches connect in the same shot they're thrown! I about creamed myself during that tracking shot of JGL running into the hospital with the Mossberg shotgun, too. Awesome.

Oh yeah, that scene was just so awesome that I couldn't put my finger on it why. I need to watch it again!

I loved that and the smoke things Batman threw at Bane beforehand. Really sold how desperate Batman was at this point.

It amuses the fuck out of me when people say Bane wasn't menacing. That sequence was insane when you see how completely broken Batman was and how desperate he felt. Nothing was working and he knew he was going to fail.

I enjoyed it, though the pacing was odd and the movie kinda dragged during the second act. I was surprised by how obvious some of the foreshadowing was for a Nolan movie. Two key moments in the film were practically telegraphed (talking about Alfred's story about the cafe in Europe, and the view of _______'s scar on her back).

It didn't feel like a Batman film. It was a war drama, with Batman. Actually, I was surprised by how little Batman is actually on screen, this is a half-complaint, half-praise for Nolan being brave enough to do this in a Hollywood blockbuster. Still wanted to see more Batman though. And Alfred too. Is it wrong for me to think that the complete removal of Alfred from the second act onward was pretty lame?

Not a fan guys. Sorry.

There was a lot to love about this movie. I did love the performances by just about everyone but seriously, fuck that pacing. Fuck that story. Oh and the foreshadowing of that bar scene at the end? This is a Nolan movie? I haven't seen something so blatantly telegraphed since Avatar's 'herp derp no one has tamed the big bird in like forever'. Ugh.

Damn, now that I've seen the movie I'm reading some reviews online. Seems like some people really hated it, especially Harry something from Aintitcool.

Finally can post in this thread! Loved the movie, albeit I do think it was over-plotted a bit.

Glad I'm not the only one who heard Alfred's story and immediately thought "That's how the movie will end". I didn't think it would actually show who Alfred was looking at though.

the fucking head bashing was phenomenal.
Probably the most stunning thing most any of us will see in a film all year. Nolan held no punches. Hell, he probably made children cry. One of the best scenes in the whole trilogy. Can't believe he didn't side step the back breaking at all, even one upping it with the cowl crushing.

Bane was very menacing. I wish they had done slightly less with the voice, as a few times I could not understand what he was saying. When it wasn't overdone, I loved the soft-spoken nature of the voice during the calm moments.

I had the exact same thought the ending was completely predictable except for the part where they actually showed Bruce. When Alfred looked past the camera and you could tell he recognized someone I thought it would cut to black on Alfred's face. A bit of an Inception like ending. But this time Nolan felt the need to make it explicit. I wish he didn't.

Me too, especially after Alfred's speech about how he always wanted more for Bruce and actually wished he wouldn't come back during his 7 year disappearance (because he hoped he would be enjoying life). Goddamn Michael Caine is awesome.
I liked Michael Caine before but man he stepped it up here.

That was a cruel joke! :p Just as I thought we wouldn't see who he was looking at 'ending partially redeemed' Nolan goes ahead and shows it! GAH!

I figured due to how mainstream this movie was that Nolan had to spell out a few things for some of the masses. That's how it felt anyway.

That was all about payoff. The characters had been through living hell and it was a reward to both the characters and the audience that they didn't pull some Inception-like shit at the end.

Yeah that's my thinking as well. Also because this is the end of a trilogy and not just one movie maybe he felt absolute confirmation was more appropriate.

On another note did anyone else feel that Matthew Modine's character was completely unnecessary? So he's a cop that sucks at his job and gets killed. He probably could have been left out entirely.

Some reviews are saying its a long movie that was streamlined as much as possible. I think a lot more could have been cut to make the movie stronger, especially in terms of pacing.

Thank fucking God that I don't think like this.

Or else I wouldn't enjoy every superhero movie that I see.

You might, I loved Avengers, Iron Man, Blade 2, and many other superhero movies that are full of plot holes. I didn't like the TDKR because it was just a bad movie, IMO (which I'm starting to feel like I have to put after every sentence I type).

Loved it. Bane sounded like Sean Connery doing an impression of Grover, which ended up working out anyway, and Anne Hathaway was great as Miss Kitka.

My god, this is spot on, I was trying to work out what he sounded like the whole movie, thank you lol.

I gotta be honest, of all the fan-service/fan fiction bits of the epilogue, the Robin reveal of the name was the worst. I rolled my eyes at that shit.

Bane was pretty well-done, though there were still a few times I had some trouble discerning what he said - usually when it seemed like he was mumbling.

Seeing Ra's, Scarecrow & Talia (was dead obvious to me that Tate was Talia...) were expected and the touch with Blake (he definitely seemed like he's based off of Tim) at the end was nice.

Ending reminded me of Inception, for obvious reasons of possible ambiguity.

I liked the film but it did feel by-the-numbers and some of the plot points could be seen miles away.

Hathaway was excellent as Kyle, but I had a feeling she'd nail the role.

Can someone clarify for me how long Bane controlled Gotham. It was 5 months right? Wasn't that how long the scientist said it would take for the core's power supply to deplete and become unstable?

Good god that was insane.

Bale really came into his own in this one -- could finally 'feel' Bruce through the mask.
Several scenes sent shivers down my spine.. Bane's unrelenting menace during the fight scene, and Bruce's roars of fury & frustration.. wow, just.. wow.

^ and I'm not sure at what point I read this, but I though initially Joseph-Gordon-Levitt was cast as Maroni's son? Immediately threw off the idea as soon as he said he grew up in the orphanage.

I loved it. It did have a bit of a drag near the beginning but the whole final act and that ending was well worth it. I was on tenterhooks throughout the whole ending.

With the Alfred seeing Bruce at the end, I would've made it a bit more obvious, if anything. Alfred said how he always wanted to see Bruce with a wife and kids. So I would've done the scene as Alfred sitting down whilst a waiter is at Bruce's table and he only sees its Bruce as the waiter leaves. They do their smile to each other and then Bruce and Selina stand to leave and you see that Selina is pregnant, leaving Alfred with a smile on his face and his drink.

Yes. Actually if you want to be picky, football starts in August/September, so five months afterwards would be January/February, hence the snow.

Also is it just me, or are Batman's arm blades his best weapon? Defeated Joker with it, defeated Bane with it, saved Ra's with it... who needs a utility belt?

I think the EMPs were the winrars in this one...

It makes me sad that the movie having such a long timeline between the start and end means that there is probably no way Talia was secretly pregnant with Damian during the end there, survived the truck crash (that Gordon easily walked away from, cmon now), and then went off to set up a real Batman & Robin movie.

While this film needs a longer run time, there I only one sequence I would have completely cut out.

Bruce banging Talia. Adds nothing to the film and ruins the development of Bruce/Selina relationship. It would have been better if Bruce banged Selina as then the whole betrayal sequence would have been better fleshed out.

I wanted to laugh at that part. It was just one of those "its a Hollywood movie, you gotta roll with it" moments.

The world is not ready for Batman & Robin movie featuring Damian Wayne, but I would be there day 1, even if Nolan directed it.

[Catwoman disappears quietly]

Batman: "... so that's what that feels like."

Damn near everyone applauded at that in my theatre..
