I went to the midnight showing where the coked out 15 year olds are looking for any excuse to clap, or yell out with their Batman masks on. Outside of Scarecrow's cameo(Which was excellent) and the ending brilliance. I can't recall any other times that the audience really got into it.

I mentioned this in the non spoiler thread: I had two guys beside me laughing EVERY TIME Bane said something. It got really fucking annoying the 15th time. Coked out is a good way to describe it.

My midnight audience popped at the Robin reveal. Loudest reaction of the night, easily. Apparently everyone's forgot Batman and Robin =D

I liked Bane's voice, by the way. Kinda sounded like Sean Connery.

I was skeptical about Bane's voice (accent and just voice in general) in the beginning because it was so fucking loud compared to everything else. but it was dope

Yeah, I saw the prologue and they really fucked with his voice.

My friends and I were looking at each other in the beginning like "what the fuck...."

OF COUARRRRSE.

Ah man I completely forgot about the plane sequence. I remember thinking that same thing.

Another scene that looked terrible to me was the suicide rush by the police to the guys with machine guns. While they are opening fire on the cops it honestly looked like Nolan was throwing a whole bunch of caps at the ground while every 1 in 10 guy would fall over from absolutely no impact hit. Looked so bad

Yeah starting with Talia it was just megatons and screaming every couple minutes.

I'm sure this isn't Batmans fault, but come the fuck on the at the third literal "ticking time bomb" in superhero films this summer. The whole climax kind of blew, it was only after that ended did I enjoy the ending. It's was a nice ending for Bruce but everything leading up to it was a letdown. The Bane fights were good, as was his character considering what he was working with, but they were so few and far between. The back punch spinal correction and everything else in the prison was bad. I get what they were trying to convey but it was unnecessary.

Just got back from my viewing.

Initially, "fuck I can't understand a word Bane is saying, and he sounds odd". Quickly got used to that.

Think I need a 2nd watch, and I'm sure this has already been mentioned, but I'm pretty sure batman is dead; and the final Alfred scene is just his imagination ... what he would've wanted, he just seemed so devastated at the cemetary.

Anywho, enjoyed it.

He's totally alive. This ending isn't Inception'd.

The only thing you could debate is what Blake does now.

... Not that it matters.

It really bothered me that none of the cops were using their guns during that charge. It was almost like "well we're on Batman's side, so we can't use guns I guess."

There is this one shot close to the end that is going to be a GAF WTF GIF LEGEND!
When Batman, Selina and Fox are talking to Talia when she is dying and she is explaining why its all futile because of the safety measures. There is this shot of all 3 of them them is such a classic WTF!

Yeah that bothered me to. Did they confiscate all their guns somehow? Were they forced to trade them for food and provisions?

Laughed out loud at that. Such a long hold, too.

I was 1 1/2 pitchers of beer in by the end so I'm not sure about this, but did Bane's crew run Gotham for literally months? How is that even possible? How did it not descend into squalor and chaos? What kept public utilities running?

Strange that an army of criminals and fanatic zealots could do such an awesome job - the city looked like it was in pretty good condition, even though the streets were bare.

There was a lot of that sort of stuff in this one. Times where the Bat was firing machine guns that didn't see like there were hitting the bomb truck, gun fights with Blake where it seemed like gunshots/sparks were ill-timed, a moment in the Stock Exchange where some dudes were shooting at computers and it wasn't matching the movements of their gun arcs.

The gun stuff was really amateurish unfortunately.

Nolan and Action is just no bueno. He needs a whole second unit for that stuff.

I thought the long hold on Talia's death speech followed by her "and now I die" closing eyes bit was even more egregious.

It didn't bother me when his plots were tightly wound. This movie wasn't, so it was immediately more noticeable.

Is the nature of the reactor Bruce made (that it's clean energy) the reason no one is concerned about radiation? It's not technically a "nuclear" bomb, correct? They said it was a "neutron" bomb or something. Is there no radiation/fallout that results from that type of bomb?

This article put it perfectly for me:

Like I said, The Dark Knight Rises is not likely to become one of my all-time favorite movies, on its own account. There are way too many scenes in a row where people give bombastic speeches instead of talking to each other. You can feel Nolan pushing levers, to get people to do things that the plot requires of them. Nolan's oft-remarked inability to capture real emotion is very much on display. There are a lot of plot points that feel at odds with Nolan's famous commitment to realism, and some parts of the denouement are downright goofy.

But when you think of it as a conclusion to a trilogy, all of TDKR's flaws as a standalone film recede, and what's left is something powerful — and moving, on a visceral emotional level. Ideas and feelings resonate throughout the trilogy, and the seven and a half hours of Bruce Wayne's journey come together into a psychological progression.

They try to track the radiation in the film a few times.

I'm going to leave this to microwave emitter logic.

If any of you guys have read Berserk, Bane's characterization reminded me of Mozgus. Jovial, well-spoken, has seemingly noble intentions, and always speaks positively... but is in reality a completely depraved sociopath. Obviously, TDK had a legendary performance in it, but I still really liked Bane in this film.

Soullessness? I actually think the pit symbolism worked very well.

I get what they were going for, but I'm not sure it worked.

I liked a lot of ideas in this film actually. Conceptually, I think it's a lot better than TDK. I just think Nolan's reach exceeded his grasp.

Surprisingly clean clothes aren't a "giant plot hole".

Yeah. I have tons of problems with this movie, no need to blow something as tiny as that up. It's five months of sitting around doing jack shit. They'd smell like shit and look dirty, but it's not like they should be completely torn to pieces or some shit.

Nolan's action >>>>>>>>>>>>> sweeping boom action cameras.

Oh man I completely agree. I am mostly talking about the staging of the scenes. Though I will say at times Nolan's concept is so bad ass that it makes the clunky execution worth it:

-Batman Rachael fall from building
-Ripping the guy out of the hotel with the jumbo plane, ect.

They were all trapped together in a collapsed sewer for 5 months and their uniforms were a little dusty. No blood, no shit stains, hell their clothes should have been falling apart by then. Semantics I guess.

I'm still confused what exactly makes the well so hard to climb, tbh.

Story necessity.

What's Berserk? Bane was actually pretty good for the most part.

As I touched on a few posts above, it's just a detail of the giant plot hole that anarchy apparently ruled the city for months and nobody was any worse for wear. The streets should have been filled with garbage and shit -- half the city would have burnt down since there's no Fire Department to stop fires caused by inevitable looting and chaos.

The Hong Kong part of TDK is probably my favorite part in the entire trilogy.

Right.

Conceptually, making Gotham into a prison is fantastic, allowing for all sorts of apocalyptic scenarios and a real sense of dread.

... They don't really bother to explore any of that.
