Who is this Gitesh Pandya and how accurate are they usually? 80 on Friday sounds more like it's gunning for 200 than 180, but maybe I'm just being silly

Remember that the Friday gross includes all the midnights, so you will see a big drop for Saturday and Sunday.

Of all the weekends, this is really tricky to extrapolate. Cant call 180M on Fri alone.

I knew 3D tax could make a difference in a movie's box office, but I didn't know it was that big. Damn.

Fuck principles, I would 3D convert all my movies! I got kids to feed!

Does this assume all tickets bought in 3D though? I mean with 3D movies (I don't know the exact %age) but I'm sure a significant proportion still see it in 2D.

Hollywood reporter reported that for the 207 Million OW for Avengers, 3D added 35 million to its OW, im using that as a reference

It depends on the % of 3D tickets too.

For example, if the 3D surcharge is +33% on average ($12 for normal ticket, $16 for 3D) and roughly 50% of the tickets were 3D tickets (as was in the case of The Avengers) then $180m * (1 + 0.5*0.33333333) = $210m.

That's still a $30M gain. I can see why GI Joe 2 was delayed now. Well, besides the test screenings going VERY poorly.

There can be an adverse effect though. If the movie is really bad, then nobody wants to fork out the extra money, and then there's less showings in 2D than you normally would have, and then you've spent however many millions for reshoots and conversions.

But worldwide, they eat that shit up. That's where the real gain is

I just read about the shooting and... in general, the hype for this film is so very unusual...it feels like when the next batch of star wars films arrvied but I didn't know batman had that kind fo cult-mass-hysteria fans

why is the hype so high for this? can someone sumarrize? I hadn't been following anything about this film until I read about the massacre.

Just got in from a 1pm showing. Theater wasn't crowded, which is how I like it. Maybe 50 people tops.

I liked it, but I thought TDK was better.

Some of the RT critics were right though, some of that dialogue from Bane in the first half of the film was incomprehensible behind the mask. Not all of it, but enough to make my 8 year old constantly ask me what he just said. And I had no idea.

Batman is a very popular franchise.

Remember the Star Wars prequels? Imagine that, but the movies are actually good.

Batman has been around for over 70 years and unlike some franchises, has been popular with each generation. Couple that with two prior films that were critically and financially successful and you have yourself a rabid loyal fanbase.

plus it's the follow up to arguably the best super hero movie ever made

but was the last film really that good? I remember vividly Heath ledger's academy award winning performance, no question that guy meant serious fucking business with that role and deserved every praise he got.

but everything else was par on course with your standard action hollywood movie, not really much to write home about... sorry if my opinion is rather unpopular.. :/

I don't know if I like the score more than TDK or Inception; those have been on repeat for 4 and 2 years respectively, so it's not a fair comparison. But (track titles, not spoilers. just to be safe)
Gotham's Reckoning
,
Imagine the Fire
and
Why do we Fall
are choice.

Just came for watching it. TDK>TDKR>>BB. Was pretty good but then again I had like no hype for this at all. A little too long and few annoying things about the last act.

Also glad that it wasn't 3D cause my friends would have taken me to that showing lol.
