Just got back from the 2:20 showing at Lincoln Square in NYC. All I can say is: holy shit. Incredible emotional roller coaster from start to finish. It really felt like totally different film than BB and TDK.

For those hitting up the IMAX at Lincoln Square this weekend, get there SUPER early. My group showed up 4 hours and there were already 20 or so people in line. When we left the theater around 5 pm people were already lined up outside the theater for the 10:10 showing tonight. Never seen anything like this before.

I think I probably would agree with the notion that BB has the best first act, TDK has the best second act, and TDKR has the best third act.

Fitting.

anyone else affraid to go see the movie because of the shooting?

Thinking I'm gonna go see this again tomorrow. Will I get bored having only seen it today? I don't know what's driving me to do it

Spoilers?

Its as spoiler free a review as your going to get, a few slight hints here and there and if you have paid attention he does let slip the time in the movie certain trailer scenes are from so from that point of view theres a spoiler or two in there. That being said unless you were keeping 100% off any information its nothing and much worth listening too.

Really hate that I have to become an impatient nut job to combat the impatient nut jobs.

Damn, Im going to have a reallllly hard time ranking this one. BB > TDK is set in stone, but TDKR's place is way up in the air after my initial viewing.

Man this thread has been hard to calculate today, i feel exhausted hearing all the reviews and different takes, that being said alot of the positive reviewers have liked the film and accepted alot of stuff that i accepted in the other two films. Also as a man who loved BB and felt tdk was way too non bat/wayne focused im so glad to hear this film gives him his time in the sun. I honestly have no idea whether ill like it but at least im pretty sure it wont be a huge dissapointment.

I won't lie - it was a sinister footnote in the back of my mind. Tragic event that sullied the day to an extent.

Yeah it's going to make watching it particularly this weekend a rather eerie experience. Impossible to think of this movie without thinking about the shooting.

I expect disappointment so I expect to love it. I'm never going to overhype myself for a movie again... I was burned pretty bad earlier this year. Probably the worst burn of all time.

I think i can break this down:

If you like stylized realism ala BB, then you may like this film more.

If you like complete realism with men dressed in costumes ala TDK, then ur gunna be dissapointed.

This is what I guage from both gaffers and pro reviewers who loved tdk.

Up until a week before it came out i had no idea what prometheus was, got bored one day in town and decided to go to the cinema and this was all that was on, so i went and came out thinking "wow that was fun". Come back to neogaf to see a huge thread in OT full of people who hated it.

People consider TDK "realistic"? In what way? I've never heard such a thing.

See ive seen TDK 3 times this week, great film, but im sure there is another cut of the movie other people have seen that is this completely different film, im aghast at how much praise it gets, especially in comparison to BB.

IDK. I went in hyped that this would be the biggest blockbuster of my life(for me) and I still liked it more than I expected.

I was actually in line when I heard about it via twitter and gaf. Since the information was just still coming out, it was kinda scattered, but it wasn't until I had gotten out and had breakfast with my friends at McDonald's (they had tvs covering the shooting) that we found out about how bad it was.

It's a definite kind of dark cloud that hung in the back while I watched the film as well as up to the present.

Ok from a scientific point of view, it was offensive, actively offensive
From a History of cinema point of view, it will be forgottten end of this year
From an Alien anthology point of view, id rather think it never happened

But as a popcorn flick...shits pretty fun man ;D

It's plot is more like a crime drama (psychopath in the loose, pushing things to edge), as compared to bb's comic booky "microwave evapourates all the water".

The execution of most of Jokers plans are about as realistic and likely as Batman Begins' microwave emitter.

I don't think its a case of "if you're a BB fan, you'll..."/"if you're a TDK fan, you'll...."

I think its a case of how willing you are to overlook some glaring plotting/character development/editing holes, and how you deal with fanservice and plot contrivances. Preferring BB or TDK has nothing to do with it.

Ah I can see that. That is kind of why I didn't LOVE The Dark Knight. After a while you realize it's actually kind of boring. I did get caught up with it in the beginning though. Mostly (if not 100%) because of Joker scenes.

Well now I don't know what to think.

Edit: oops...

I dont honestly see how a microwave emitter is any stupider than using everyones cell phone as sonar. TDK is not a great crime drama at all, Batman never outsmarts the joker, we are to believe he created a huge fuck off machine using sonar technology in relatively short amount of time, by himself when we have no evidence of a background that supports it. The only detective work he does is fine in your face clues and mimic a bullet shot ( a scene ive never understood). Now i dont care, its a good film, i suspend my disbelief, but its overselling it to say that Batman really went all detective.

I guess it is a testament to ledger's characterization that the joker's "schemes" feel real. Ras always felt more like a larger than life comic book villain who wants to "rule the world". If you get my drift.

Maybe it has less to do with the movie and more with how nolan wrote the chatacters?

None of these movies (haven't seen TDKR yet) really nailed the detective aspect of Batman, which is odd when you consider that Nolan made his name on one of the best detective movies of the last twenty years.

Anyone care to summarize the GAF opinion so far?

Very mixed lol. Personally TDKR = TDK >BB, but what's great is that there is a case for any of the three films to be at the top of your list.

It depends on what you like. BB is an adventure film. TDK is a crime film. TDKR is a war film.

Well they did mention it early in the movie. There was a project Bruce was keeping secret from even Morgan Freeman himself. It ended up being the super sonar computer friend finder. I agree about the bullet thing though. That shit was non-sense.

Just finished watching it a second time. Wasn't as good as the first time. Theatre was dead empty and a much better viewing experience but without all the hype that surrounded the midnight showing I would probably put it behind BB and TDK. Still great fun and a crazy good final act.
