Just got back from watching it. I really enjoyed it. Quite a bit of it was pretty predictable, but overall it was a pretty good movie. Catwoman exceeded my expectations, as did Bane. Very impressed with the latter.

Now before I get talking about the trilogy as a whole, I know I'll be called a Batman-hipster that goes against the consensus, but oh well. Here goes:

A couple of my friends were there and we got in a discussion on which of the trilogy was best, they said either the second or third, I was in the severe minority(as in, the only one out of five) that thinks the first is best.

I personally think this new one is better than the second as well, which is certainly not a knock on TDK, but I just like the other two more. I believed that Ra's was a masterful villain. I believed that Bane was smart, powerful, and capable of his threats and the way he executed everything. My knock against TDK, is that I just cannot believe that the Joker is as smart as he is, that he is as tactical and masterful as he was portrayed as being. Everything just seemed way too convenient.

Bane in this was very believable as a villain, and I recognized that the terror in the movie could truly happen.

Very good movie, very good trilogy, and I have to wonder if WB will go ahead and take off from where this ended when it eventually reboots. It would be a nice gesture, I think, but who knows.

Also, Man of Steel trailer was pretty good, IMO. As a Snyder fan(at least, for his first couple movies), I think he can really pull it off.

So a friend of mine just told me watching Rises felt like rinsing his mouth with diarrhea.

Anybody want to comment on that?

I saw it earlier today at a 12pm matinee. It was a good third entry in the series, but it doesn't top part 2. Catwoman was great, Bane was good. John Blake was an interesting take on a familiar character. Though I wasn't really feeling Batman's hardships in this movie as much as I thought I would have. I don't know what else to say without spoiling the plot. But some of the moments of Bruce Wayne's retribution, so to speak, felt resolved to quickly.

It's good. But not up to the same level as The Dark Knight. It seems like the trend of the second movie in comic book movie franchises being the best one, still continues.

Nope the opening scene from TDK.

lol
Opening scene in TDK is completely unremarkable. Heck, there's several other moments in TDK alone, which is the weakest of the three flicks, that surpass it.

Bruce rising from the well is the high note of the trilogy for me personally.

I loved it. I think I liked it even more than The Dark Knight.. and that's not easy to do. A real roller coaster of emotions.. I was absolutely tingling for the last few minutes of the film.

Cannot believe theres are people that would easily put this below BB, just makes no damn sense.

Does the movie have its problems? Yes, but
man do they really not matter in the grand scheme of things. Some of the scenes in the film completely blow away everything so far in the series. It was such an amazing experience, was completely absorbed in what was on screen, surreal. It was a movie that just did not give a f*ck, immensely ambitious. Im not sure anyone not named Nolan can get away with it.

Which is the best is up for debate.

But I think everyone can agree the lowest point of the trilogy is the 3rd act of TDK. Ferries/Sonar...

Nope the opening scene from TDK.

Of the three movies, TDK's opening scene is the weakest imo.

Also, probably the first time I've agreed with Solo on a new release before. I almost feel bad for ragging on him for liking Quantum of Solace. Almost.

EDIT: The opening in BB is a sequence and not a scene, so it's a bit different, but the point still stands.

The first 30 minutes of TDKR is probably my least favorite moments in the whole series. Its slow in all the wrong places but glosses over important facts.

Edit: ^^ The Joker is a big reason why I love TDK more than most people. I just don't have many problems with that movie overall even though I know its flawed.

I dunno. There's a lot of stuff in the first act of TDKR that rubs me the wrong way. A LOT. The third act of TDK at least has the excellent Dent confrontation.

Will need to wait till I see TDKR again to make a decision.

Taking Ledger's Joker out of the equation because that's just unfair, how does Bane rank with other comic book movie villains, i.e. Alfred Molina as Doc Ock?

I feel the same about the first act of TDKR. It thankfully picks up soon after that though.

Dent confrontation also has the most embarrassingly bad acting out of Bale in the entire trilogy. Every time something threatens to work in that 3rd act something brings it down imo.

I was only including the opening scene in TDKR. I wasn't as annoyed by the first 30 minutes to an hour like a lot of people, but perhaps that will change when I go to see it again. I want to digest it a little bit more before I do that though.

Man, I can tell you're really going to go nuts then.

Lol seriously. Out of everything I expected people to say about this film, I'd never have expected comparisons to Raimi's Spider-Man movies. That plus the impressions being so all over the place has me really looking forward to it (more than I was, anyway).

I agree. But I still think it's a great scene. A lot of it is owed to (what I assume to be) JNH's haunting track there.

I will say, the Colorado stuff hit close to home a few times during the film.. yikes.

(I don't think this is in any way a spoiler but if someone feels like it is, I can edit it)

Just came back from the theater.

I'm still thinking about it and that is why Nolan always gets my attention and my money.

I absolutely loved it, that middle act was building to something big and I trusted Nolan to bring us full circle and it paid off.

That final act was brilliant and was absolutely how this trilogy had to end.

The Dark Knight will always have a special place in my heart, the impact is unlikely to be topped but Rises is a full-fledged beast that unravels the elements of society and the psychology of Bruce Wayne unlike I have ever seen.

...I need to go lie down and rethink this wonderful movie.

Does anyone, who's seen it in an IMAX theatre, know how much of the final film is with the IMAX cameras?
76m

Warner Bros is not going to report numbers for TDKR this weekend out of respect for the shooting in Colorado.

We will get weekend numbers on Monday when the actuals come out.

Deadline Hollywood was estimating 80-85M on Friday including midnights
No BO thread out of respect too?

The fuck? How was it?! Was it the new one?

Yes it was the new one.

It was good. The music wasn't as good as the teaser, but the action was nuts. There was alot of shots of the train action set peice which looks insane. At one point it looks like bond went from motorcycle to the top of a moving train by crashing his bike into the side of a bridge and had his momentum propel him onto the train! And there was a Bond swag shot as well. Q looked like a refreshing update, and they mention what skyfall is
The release of every undercover agents identity, similar to the list from MI 1 I guess

I have one non-spoilery question: Christian Bale? I liked him in Begins, but in Dark Knight his voice just got so ridiculously growly. Does he pull it back a bit in this one as Batman, or is it that same overdone growl (IMO)?

I felt like it was pulled back a bit, except for one or two scenes

I think it's SO MUCH better in TDKR.

There are about 2-3 lines where the growl is just as bad as it's always been, but in general, it's better. Not excellent, but better. Bruce Wayne, on the other hand, is the best Bruce Wayne we've seen so far, without question.

Bale was always a fantastic Wayne. It's Batman where he goes comically over-the-top.
