Gay and Bisexual thread |OT2|Bears and Twinks and Otters. Oh My!

So... My straight (but not narrow) coworker texts me a pic of his dick last night. What struck me as odd was not that he sent the pic,
cuz my pimp game is strong
was that a) he took the pic while he was in the bath (WTF?), and b) the bathwater was filthy. Oh, and it's pierced (which is neither here nor there,) I wonder if he was drunk. lol.

Backstory: our working relationship is physically flirtatious, on the understanding that he's straight, so there'll be no sex, and he's not my type. He definitely likes girls. Everyone thinks he's weird because he's all pierced and tatted up.

Anyway, eww dirty bathwater.

That seems like a very odd thing to do. I really think you're right that he was drunk (or high on something.) Do you know for a fact he was straight? He could just be bi-curious, which is more common than you'd think.

Still. Dirty bath water? Perhaps it was an artistic self portrait that he sent to you on accident? That must be it. An odd modeling picture. The dirty bathwater also could have been a fetish of some sort.

Your backstory also raises a lot of questions. Are you attracted to him? He's not your type but you were compelled to post about this? Does this sort of back and forth make it awkward at work?

That seems like a very odd thing to do.

Not really odd. Unexpected, sure. I told him a couple weeks back that he should send me one. He said no though.

I really think you're right that he was drunk (or high on something.) Do you know for a fact he was straight?

He's been married twice and all his phone porn is straight.

He could just be bi-curious, which is more common than you'd think.

He said he could be persuaded to sleep with a pre-op transexual. he was adamant about boobs though. Lol.

Still. Dirty bath water? Perhaps it was an artistic self portrait that he sent to you on accident? That must be it. An odd modeling picture. The dirty bathwater also could have been a fetish of some sort.

Could be, he is... different.

Your backstory also raises a lot of questions. Are you attracted to him?

Oh dear go, no. We're just goofy bastards that get along at work.

He's not your type but you were compelled to post about this?

Well I can't tell people from work. They already assume we're screwing. I thought it was a funny story I could share.

Does this sort of back and forth make it awkward at work?

Not for us.

Alex, that's excellent news! So glad it worked out for you!
Best of luck with the chemotherapy. I have a few relatives and friends who unfortunately were diagnosed with cancer too, but because it was discovery early the chemo worked perfectly and they are fine now.
Having the support of friends and family and a positive attitude is one of the most important things when dealing with this kind of situation, I hope you're not lacking in any of those!
If you ever need anything (even if it's just to rant), don't be afraid of sending me a PM (or a message in Skype or Facebook).

Keep us updated about your situation, please... and again, best wishes for you!

Alex, that's amazing news that you deserve. So glad to hear it!

That's wonderful to hear.

Alex, I had no idea about your cancer, but that's great news.

kitchenmotors, that's wonderful news. :)

Wow, heavy stuff man! But very good news indeed! I mean, you already have enough to worry about with being sick, you could easily do without financial worries of course. Best of luck with the chemo!

That's awesome news man!

Thanks everyone for your positive comments. Means a lot to me! :)

Alex WTF I had no idea D:

Yeah Danny, other than a few comments here and there in Tinychat and a few Facebook updates, I haven't talked about it that much. Just pushing through and trying to move on.

The water was dark enough to where his leg went in to the water you couldn't see it anymore.

So, er--Soap? Because the soap I use will make a "film" that can make it hard to see under the water if I'm taking a bath.

i think we need a sample of this image.

lol

Kinda off topic at the moment, but I just want to say that I wish you luck, kitchenmotors, and I'm happy you had such a positive turn of events.

Got some great news today. Some of you know I was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the end of May and had surgery June 1st. Due to circumstances with work that are extremely complicated, I didn't have insurance at the time.

I got a letter today from Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital that informed me I had been approved for financial assistance for my hospital bill for the surgery and services. I did not expect to for the entire balance of $19,719 to be paid off, but it was done so by charity. I'm in shock. I'm going to try and find out who or what paid off my medical bill, as I would like to thank them personally.

Of course, I still have to do chemo and need to deal with those bills, but this makes me feel a little bit more relieved about my situation. After a horrible year with a string of bad luck, this news along with landing a new job with full benefits, has really turned things around.
Splendid news! Happy to hear you're doing much better :D

I've yet to read the article, but what stance on bisexuality are you referring to? I've listened to his podcast for the past three or so years, and I've always loved his show, even though I frequently disagree with him.

To be fair to Mr. Savage, he has done a lot of backpeddling on that issues probably because of the flak that he received from it. So, in that regard, I suppose there's been some progress.

I perused google briefly to find his original blog posts that started a lot of the controversy but the link that I found was dead. Here's someone commenting on it with some quotes from the passage:

"I no longer believe that most bisexuals wind up in [heterosexual relationships] because you're all liars and cheats, or that you're all dying to access societal perks reserved for heterosexuals, or that you're all cowards and it's hard out here for a homo."

"I think most bisexuals wind up in heterosexual relationships because most bisexuals are mostly hetero."

Source - http://gretachristina.typepad.com/greta_christinas_weblog/2006/06/if_you_believe_.html

I think he even went so far as to quote "that one study" which suggested that bisexual men are just homosexual men who don't want to admit it.

Anyway, as I mentioned, he's gone back or clarified his position or whatever since then but I haven't really been a fan of him because of it. Sure, he probably has some great advice, but ultimately he's just some guy dispensing his own opinions on situations without any official background or education on the matter.

And of course, his responses on the matter have always contained his trademark personality so it often feels that this was an issue he begrudgingly apologizes for. But yeah, he's rescinded.

When I first learned about evolutionary psychology, I thought it sounded like a good idea. On the surface level, it seems to make intuitive sense. If male humans and female humans faced slightly different pressures as males and females, it might produce some of the differences we see, right? But then I began learning about what evolutionary psychology actually is, and it is astonishing the complete lack of, well, anything resembling evidence or testable hypotheses it has.

It's a post-hoc rationalization of 1950s American gender roles, and a hodge-podge of just so stories spun around a select few facts that should be narrowly construed but are instead turned into the bases of grand untestable ideas explaining all male and female difference as the product of mysterious evolutionary pressures that just seem guaranteed to create male and female inequality with, men on top. Oh, and they are appallingly ignorant of anthropology and social psychology, to the extent that when you hear them make pronouncements about human nature, you quickly realize that they are scarcely aware of any culture beyond their own.

This is hitting that nail pretty well. I've seen evolutionary psychology address why women like ponies and men don't to why we have psychopaths and their role in controlling human population. In just about every instance of evolutionary psychology there's a complete disregard for how genetics actually work/the time-frame that evolution occurs/a generally shocking ignorance and broad application of biological processes that don't even make sense.

Your examples are absolutely perfect and it just feels like a really terrible fad that's taken hold of the academic sphere somehow until it's made an actual mockery of the scientific process. Ultimately, the worst aspect of this is by it's very nature it's untestable so these wild claims can't even be refuted by honest-to-god research.

I would say more, but I'm really tired and should go to bed. Had a long day which ended on a rather sour note when I think I started to realize that one of my buddy's friends is racist.

And that's fantastic news Kitchen!

I noticed that thread teetering dangerously. I'm a sucker for those topics, having studied criminology. Also, Evolutionary Psychology is my biggest pet peeve so I can't help but respond to people who throw it around so casually. And I really appreciate your post. Like I mentioned, I'd never heard anything about the specific role testosterone played in aggression.

Well, my first is when did we start calling it the GLBT movement? I always thought it was the LGBT movement. Come now, we can still be gentlemen and let the ladies go first.

My initial reaction is to his comment on the Proposition 8 fiasco and how guilt was levied against the black community instead of the religious community. However, it was my understanding that the only reason the black community voted more in favour was because that community is, as a whole, more religious than the rest.

Reading the rest of this, I feel I really can't properly respond to it. It's so heavily steeped in American culture that it I can't help but feel like an outsider looking in. Racism in America is really a foreign thing. Not to say racism doesn't happen outside of America, but the whole environment surrounding it is just something that I can not understand. But this came up in the thread that had pictures of racist bumperstickers warning against Obama's re-election. In my country, and many others, hate speech is a crime and so these race relation moments are really pushed to the ground.

For example, the Big Brother incident in the article would have exploded in Canada because you just don't use that word. I can't imagine the guy being left on the show after that moment regardless of how cute he is.

Also - I've not been a fan of Savage since his ridiculous stance on bisexuality. It does not surprise me that when he opens his mouth his foot often ends up in it.

I am curious, however, (and I feel like I should almost not bring it up since I wouldn't want to distract from the main point of discourse) what is the coverage of other gay sub-cultures? The essayist mentions Latinos voting heavily in favour of Prop 8. Are there similar prejudices towards Latino homosexuals? What are the views on Asian homosexuality? I know in Japan, a common perception is that homosexuality is a 'white man's' problem. What is the level of race relations in America outside of the white-black struggle? (And if we have to talk about sub-groups, Muslim homosexuality must be the worst.)
Yeah, I really can't understand either, as it's complex, and I'm not part of the black community. I do know that the influence of the black church is waning, though. As for latinos, I know there's a strong catholic presence. But, even latinos are split among various demographics (puerto ricans, cubans, mexicans, dominicans, etc.) And, I have never been around an asian person whom I know I was gay. I've lived only lived in Florida and Ohio, though. I'm sure people on the west coast or NYC would have more insight.

As for racism in general in the US, it is still a huge problem, although people (who aren't of color) try and ignore it. There is still housing discrimination and health care discrimination, and areas are simply segregated more subtly (take a look at the renter laws that propped up after Katrina, which were put in place to maintain the whiteness of certain areas).

Sooo I went out with that guy i talked about earlier. We didn't go to foxwoods but we did go out clubbing at club cafe with a friend of his (a girl-she was awesome!) and met up with two other guys. it was a blast. I almost didn't go. After a few drinks before the club we were ready for the dance floor. Club Cafe really needs a new DJ, how can someone ruin the song Lights. lol.

Looks like soap film + bright lights + terrible camera phone quality photo to me.

That's nice of you to try to defend him. It might very well be soap film and bright lights, but it really looks like grimy gross bathwater.

Omg this last page. I'm in stitches. Gaygaf really is the masters of gifs.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. Hell. I enjoy the gifs. (not sarcasm)

That's fantastic. I'm glad you had a great time. Also I have never heard of Lights. :]

People really need to stop taking photos in the bathroom. that is worse than those nasty mirror photos.

Mine too. That club ruined Starships but they made a damn good mashup of Madonna's Music and LMFO's I'm Sexy and I know it.

Can't sleep. Reading anything in OT that tickles my fancy. It's been a while since I was an OT regular.

Of that last sentence, I only know who/what Madonna is, haha.. and I haven't been out to a club in about a decade. Sad, eh? :P

And you're damn right on the bathroom mirror pics. Way too much potential for something to be, umm, "wrong."

Oh come on guys. There's a POPGaf thread and there's a Gay/Bisexual thread. It would be so much better if they were separate.

I do like the POPGaf thread.

I don't have anything against piercings or tatts, but for me, a guy with a P.A. is such an extreme turn off.
