finally got to see it today. i loved it! that high school fight scene was craaaaaaazy

only criticism i had was the scene with peter and gwen at his doorstep near the end. felt kind of cheesy. same with the construction workers scene, that was sorta corny as well. but overall i thought it was better than all the other spiderman movies.

andrew and emma have excellent chemistry, and their interactions were a highlight for me in the film.

I think the CG work was actually really impressive. The design is what I feel let The Lizard down and destroyed suspension of disbelief. The textures, the animation, etc. all seem incredibly impressive in this context: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_wvncBM1Ug

Perhaps. In the .gif I quoted, the lighting seems off as he rotates, making him seem like a disconnected element from the scene. I observed a fair amount of that in the film. Any time there was a close up on him speaking I just couldn't suspend my disbelief. I attributed that to the animation and lighting, though certainly it was a subpar design.

yeah, his mouth especially bothered me. i wish they went full lizard instead of a hybrid for his face. i think it would have looked much better

man i really hope they dont kill off gwen in this franchise. they already changed enough, keeping gwen doesnt seem so farfetched.

She's great and I won't deny her the possibility to pull it off, but I don't really see her as MJ either. They need someone who basically exudes sexy spunk and confidence.

Bryce Dallas Howard for MJ.

Finally seen it took me a while. It was decent not better then 1 or 2. Felt nothing for Uncle Ben didn't like Sally Fields as Aunt May either. Really didn't like how it didn't feel like New York you can tell it was LA. Hopefully a sequel will be good. Also come on at no Spider-man web slinging during the day.

Took my dad to see it yesterday and he loved it. I was surprised since he liked the Raimi trilogy and doesn't have much exposure to the character otherwise. He actually liked it better than the Raimi films and TDKR . I feel the same way but I didn't think he would like it so much.

Finally got to see this movie (in 2D, thank God). I had no choice but to wait...

I went in with no expectations, but I liked the Sam Raimi-movies. I was kinda surprised how many cheesy one-liners and "funny dialogs" there were. I know this is a Spider-Man movie, but I always remember them saying that Amazing Spiderman was gonna have a more serious tone, like Christopher Nolans Batman-movies.

Overall, the villain was a solid bad-guy - though not as good as Green Goblin, obviously. His reasoning and plan were decent. Andrew Garfield does the role pretty well, but I thought Emma Stone specifically did an excellent job! She's very beautiful - which is something Kirsten Dunst shares as-well!

The overall feeling of the movie was good. I liked it, but I do hope that the second movie decreases the amount of cheese and humor, while increasing the sense of atmosphere.

Read some posts from page 25 and some people are saying that you need to watch the Raime-movies to remember that they're extremely cheesy as-well.

So fuck it.

I'll do that right now. Brb, watching Raime Spider-Man (1).

Yeah that is what I did, I watched Spiderman 3 and 2.1 again when they played it on FX and Spiderman 1 after Amazing spiderman.

They were alot cheesier than I remembered them being when I was a kid.

I do not personally mind comic movies being cheesy/campy though.

Spiderman is probably my favorite super hero (most people I imagine would say he is their favorite though so I am not trying to make a big deal of it lol).

I never read the Ultimate Spiderman so I can not comment on accuracy to source material but I never minded if comic movies took liberties from the source material.
The only Spiderman I saw was the 90s cartoon that was on ABC family/Jetix/Fox and Unlimited.

I understand some long time Spider fans can not stand Raimi's films. I mean I find it hard to compare the movies and say which is better because how different they are but I guess "hardcore" spiderman fans think that TASM is vastly superior or something from what I have been reading on other forums.

I mean there were some moments I disliked in Amazing Spiderman,
like how Peter was punched before he got his super powers but had no bruising where he was punched or the lizard saying "POOR PETER PARKER..."
but overall I liked it more than the Avengers.

Does anyone know who the villian will be? I am hearing all kind of things from people and maybe someone who read Ultimate Spiderman has any ideas?

No one has a clue. Its left to be vague. Many will tell you Green Goblin or Mysterio. Electro was even a guess for the sequel. There really is nothing to go by, but Norman Osborn is foreshadowed in TASM.

Personally I would love to see Chameleon or Mysterio/Kraven tag teaming Spidey...

Actually interesting theory... what if the guy in shadows IS Chameleon and only dressed up as Norman to find out information from Connors. Since Norman is dying he wouldn't be able to go out in public often. AND he's not even there, just an illusion created by Mysterio using footage of Chameleon. It explains the disappearing and EVERYTHING. We're done here.

All right so I just watched Sam Raimis Spider-Man and here are some notes I took while watching the movie.

Music - is much more memorable in Raimi-SM. The theme is awesome and pumps me up!

Like I previously mentioned, Green Goblin is definitely a better villain than Lizard Man. Willem Dafoe is such an amazing actor, he alone makes the movie!

The overall pacing of the game is just insane compared to Webbs-SM. Like, Peter got bit by the spider after 10 minutes and Green Goblin was introduced 16 minutes in. That's ridiculously fast compared to Amazing Spiderman.

The whole pacing how Peter got the spider-powers were much better, and less cheesy. The "fight-scenes" in Amazing Spiderman sucked major ass. They're not good in Raimi-SM either though.

MJ is not prettier than Emma Stone. I remember MJ being a lot sexier :3 MJ and Peter-dialogs were much better than Peter and Gwens though. I hated Peter/Gwens moments together. Not a single line without cringe-worthy dialogs.

Also, there is less cheese in Raimi-SM. Every single minute of Amazing Spiderman seemed to have some sort of one-linear or cheese. Even during serious fights against Lizard Man, they had to put in some comic. This isn't the case in Raimi-SM (the Green Goblin fights were amazing).

Also, Raimi-SM leaves room for a sequel in a much better way than Amazing Spiderman did.

Overall, Raimi-SM is the better Spider-Man. They're both good movies, for sure. But they're different from each other.

Ahhh, I remain baffled by myself for being baffled by people liking Raimi's SM this much, every. single. time.

Defining cracking jokes, that work, as cheese isn't right though. I guess everyone has their own idea of what cheese is, I guess. For me, the entire Tobey Mcguire acting shtick was cheesy, awkward and cringeworthy. That kind of ruins the entire movies from the get go.

Not to mention Raimi's direction, billions of cheesy cringeworthy b-movie type scenes. The fights are just as unimpressive with way too much grunting everywhere and too much of a 'bombastic' feel to them than any actual flow. The fights are a constant NGGGHHHHHH without any flow to them.

PP driving around as a pizza delivery boy with an incredibly stupid helmet on, getting ignored when he wants an hors d'ouvre, things like that. PP is an anti-hero in these movies. PP/SM is, clumsy, bumbly, not socially developed, not funny, an anti-hero without much redeeming value. Raimi wants to make you laugh at PP/SM, and it just doesn't work, at all.

On the other hand, for me, in ASM PP and GS worked very well. What you describe as cheese, for me it works. Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker, works, it's not cheesy or cringeworthy at all. Funny how perspectives can differ so incredibly much.

Anti-hero without redeeming value? Is English a second language for you? Your entire post reads like a mess of words thrown together.

I read it fine though ._.

I take it back. Not a mess of words, just weird. Grunting? Bombastic? Either he's describing a different movie, or he doesn't know what these words mean.

Maybe he's drunk or something and just slapping together vaguely associated words.
Hey now, I resent that. Those words are not vague at all. Maybe I left out too much in order to explain my perspective to others, since it's quite different for some in this thread. But there's nothing wrong with it. You should check a dictionary yourself to verify your own criticism. It doesn't seem to be based on anything but a lack of acknowledgement for my perspective.

Bombastic describes the fights in Raimi's trilogy quite well. They're quite overblown, sometimes very drawn out. No real ups and downs other than constant tension. It's too much. And you didn't notice any grunting or moaning? Come one, grunting and moaning is really pronounced in every fight and struggle.

The final fight in Spider-man 1 comes to mind when grunting and whatnot are most prevalent to me. Of course, you could argue that's because Spidey has been beat to hell.

Finally saw this, uuuuh I really don't have anything bad to say about it, objectively. But man, was I bored. I'll probably forget about this movie in about a week and that's really the worst thing you can't say about a movie.
It just felt really lame :/ really, everything was just alright and that's the problem, absolutely nothing about this film is "amazing".

The thing I liked was when Pete was clumsily smashing everything with his new strength...

I think they should've gone in a different route than doing "omg Uncle Ben got shot" again.

Oh and needless to say, this doesn't come close to SM 1 and 2. It's better than 3 for sure but it won't be more memorable. Even if SM 3 was for the wrong reasons, lol.

Saw it last night. I enjoyed it but not as much as the original. Garfield was a good Spidey but I really did prefer the cast in the original. The original Aunt May is THE Aunt May. Sally Field just didn't cut that role for me. Would have preferred a reboot as a new story without having to tell the original story all over again. Didn't like how Uncle Ben died. Mainly enjoyed it though due to some of the incredible shots on NYC...

3D was merely ok, some decent stand out moments but overall not worth the admission.

loved this movie a lot. it was fun and it felt like I was watching an issue of amazing spiderman. it was so cool. I kinda hope they riff on a current Dan Slott storyline. Find a way to do a Spider-Island film....

now if they could only get Marc Webb back, he did a wonderful job I thought.

Is the Skele-Gro ready yet? Norman Osborn, who is your boss and who commissioned this research, needs it ASAP.

Norman Osborn. My boss. Everybody got that? What exactly is he dying from that regrowth potion will cure?

IRRFAN KHAN
He read the script for this movie and puked his guts out so he needs new ones.

Stumbled upon this pretty amazing never-before-seen trailer for Spider-Man 1 that showed off mechanical web spinners; http://youtu.be/meC7Zxk87Es Pretty interesting.

Anyway, this will be coming out on DVD and Blu-ray in about a month; November 9th. Definitely going to pick it up to get a fresh viewing and at the same time check out the deleted scenes.

If only there were a directors cut edition that included all the stuff they spliced out. The deleted scenes don't seem like they'll be that entirely.

Ditto. I'd like to see it before it was re-edited into the theatrical version.

And speaking of blu-ray releases, I really think Raimi's Spider-Man has been getting the shaft, packaging-wise.

The first release had decent cover art (can't go wrong with the posters), but it wasn't worth it since it didn't have any bonus material.

Then you have the current ones right now:

And now there's the Steelbooks, which you'd think would look nicer, but absolutely not:

They should just get Emma Stone again for MJ. Explain his attraction to MJ as her similar appearance to Gwen Stacey.

Emma Stone would make a killer MJ.

Probably be one of the first times an actress played two different characters at the same time in the same movie.

Hah, no. She nails Gwen too well imo. The new MJ needs to have that contrasting girly-girl/lib/hip/i'm-hot-and-i-know-it attitude from the comics that i'm not sure Emma can pull off too well in the same universe.

Yeah, they're embarrassingly horrid. I almost think they purposefully made them look so shoddy to sway people into picking up one of these instead;

I got a $5 off voucher on my receipt for one of those Steelbooks after buying The Avengers. I got excited thinking it was for the TASM Steelbook, but it said right beside it "(with Tobey Maguire)".

Yeah, definitely the first time this would have happened ever. Not like dual roles in film date back to the 1910s and even further back if you consider theater

They had one person appear in two places on stage at the same time? Wow, green screen technology goes back farther than I thought.

It's probably one of the most basic things you can do. Granted, it's definitely a lot more advanced now, than before.

hah, hilarious. anyway, you originally said "at the same time" which does not necessitate simultaneous depiction on the screen/stage. even if you had meant that but mistakenly not made that known, film has been doing that for a long time. I'd considered that maybe you were originally making a joke about how this isn't uncommon but this reaction here kinda confirms that you didn't realize this has happened a lot before, unless you're weirdly building on the joke? which I also doubt

...What else would it possibly mean in the context of the discussion of a single actress playing simultaneous love interests?

them being on the screen at different times?
You said
"Probably be one of the first times an actress played two different characters at the same time in the same movie."
which is simply a dual role, which can be done by having the actors on screen at different times. Which is how it was done in theater and early film.
This actually makes more sense in the context of conflicting love interests, as I doubt Peter would be spending all of his time with Gwen and MJ at the same time.

So I in turn pointed out that this is common and old. But you shifted goalposts to them being on-screen at the same time. Even still, this is a common and old practice.

In summary: I have no idea what you're getting at or why you were originally amazed that one actress could play two characters, it isn't close to novel.
