You know, I'm still surprised how powerful a line "Then you have my permission to die." was in the film even after hearing it in like all the trailers.
Context definitely gave it strength.

I think the pause it before gave it a lot of weight too. I'm a bit upset though, because whatever he said immediately after that was one of the few lines of his I didn't catch.

well the ra's bit was a dream/hallucination. i mean clips from previous movies, like the harvey dent stuff, or 'why do we fall'

I was referring to the ones with young Ra's Al Ghul as a mercenary.

But I see what you're saying. I do think the clips had a place, just to give a little extra reminder and context.

Liked all the prison and young ras stuff. And reading around it seems enough people forgot/missed Begins stuff to make the rest necessary

I hope the rest of the big directors grow some balls and adopt IMAX. Even some of the sweeping shots of the city in IMAX were fucking glorious.
Beautiful. Stunning. Every other adjective you can think of. There was the one looking down on the city streets that almost gave me vertigo and DID give me sweaty palms. It's 100% the format of the future. Fuck 3D.

actually none of the flashbacks were necessary in this film. if there's a director's cut, then they should be removed.

I would agree but.....

This thread is full of people who can't recall many details and plot points, some explained outright by characters, in a movie they just saw!

Flashbacks feel kind of nitpicky, since every single one lasted less than 2 seconds.

Sorry, internet, but not everyone remembers every last detail. These people have lives, despite what Ra's Al Guhl may think.

he uses explosives in the comics as well iirc. he did totally kill that guy driving the truck though. murdered him right in the face.

He blows half a building up getting the bomb out of the city, too. I mean, I totally understand the utilitarian math there, but still.

And I fucking loved Hardy as Bane in this. As I said earlier, he delivers his lines with a sort of bemused casualness that seems incongruous at first but it totally worked for me. Great choices.

I noticed another thing whcih i didnt in trailers. Bane has this dark humor around him too. Like when he was walking and waiting around for the hack at the stock exchange, he nodded to a crouching person as if saying how are you. And then he picks up a helmet from a guy and says Thank you.

This was the director's cut. WB didn't force Nolan to put those flashbacks in. This was the movie he wanted to make.

No, I'm totally 100% with you.

Just saying, I'm not sure I can trust Nolan to keep his word after Robin-gate.

I feel like the mob who just heard about the Harvey Dent lie.

I hated them too. I had watch both films just 8 hours before I watched TDKR. I felt like Nolan himself was calling me a dumb ass every time once of those flashbacks happened. :(

There is no way WB said shit about anything in this movie, except maaayybe they wouldn't let Nolan outright kill Batman. And I am not at all convinced he ever even considered that, and they still might have let him, anyway.

Actually Goyer and Nolan already knew what the ending was at the end of TDK, they built the entire movie around the ending. This was in the empire article. The last 5 mins were what they thought and they built an entire movie around it

Just watched it today.

Bane's voice was amazing.
Hathaway did a surprisingly good job as Catwoman. Very feline performance.
The Cat-ears were very well done and cleverly implemented.
A great score.
Loved the new characters.

I just loved all the little details overall. A wonderfully satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. Is this the first time we see Batman with a happy ending?

WB def wasn't crazy about Batman not being in most of this movie, especially the 2nd act, but they trust Nolan far more than Sony trusts Raimi (or anyone else), so they let it happen.

He never put "Robin" in the movie. If anything, the way he went about just throwing Blake's real Robin name out there was a play on this fact. Nolan's stance was that a little kid dressed in spandex fighting alongside Batman wouldn't' make sense, and he kept to this. Even if you want to extrapolate that Blake eventually takes over, he'll likely do it in the Batman suit. Why would he use his real name as his superhero name?

Risen for darkness on the soundtrack is the score of when Batman shows up on the batpod in the first third, best song in the ost

Because no one would believe it.

Just like no one would believe Nolan would secretly put a Robin origin story into his movie!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought that the "OH USE YOUR REAL NAME, ROBIN" was a bit hamfisted, but it set something else up that's really pretty cool.

Blake would most likely continue under a new banner, similar to Batman's, but new nonetheless.

He'd become Nightwing.

So,

I didn't like Bane's voice. Every single scene with him talking felt off to me. It seemed completely wrong all the time. It felt disconnected from the physical movements of every scene, particularly.

I thought the movie should have been cut way down. Way too much pointless meandering.

The villains motivations aren't interesting enough. We want to blow everyone up. We're basically the joker but less interesting & we got tons of skilled lackeys to follow us for some reason.

If it had been Bane & Talia literally trying to destroy the 1% and the violence & needless bloodshed that came from that instead of just saying 'chaos, then we blow you up anyways' they would have been compelling and the film would have been thought provoking.

Also, Batman should have at least died.

in after thought, I took it as him combining all the Robins to satisfy those fans.

lol

The only thing I disliked about the whole thing was that his name was Robin... that was just incredibly dumb. He should have just said his real name was Richard Grayson and those few people who didn't know who that was could have turned to their friends after the movie and found out.

As I said there are people here who can't remember something they just saw. He is running it down for majority of people who remember even less than the people in this thread. I'm used to having to sit through movies that pander to the short bus crowd.

But Nolan knew he didn't even have to think this far ahead because he's done with Batman. That's why the Robin thing was just a nice little send off. He was probably having fun with the fans who wanted him to include Robin, and with the fact that he and Bale have always been adamant that there would never be a Robin in the Nolan-verse. I doubt Nolan gives a shit about whether Blake would become Batman 2.0, or Nightwing, or whatever else.

Yeah because it would make a lot more sense for a police officer to be using a fake name for no apparent reason this whole time. That would have been a lot less dumb, you are right!

Other little things that popped in my head as I watch this youtube video of the 2nd fight:

Bruce breaks Bane's mask, after Bane broke his (FULL CIRCLE)
The Darkness and Shadow's betrayed Bruce because they belonged to Bane. So, 2nd time, fight in the Light! (OOOOH SNAP FULL CIRCLELELE)

The vast majority of people going to see it haven't watched a seven-year-old movie in seven years.

Is there a consensus on when Batman ejected from the Bat with the nuke? I was thinking it might have been when he fires on the building to create that explosion for cover.

It really did seem like a combination of the major 'Robins' and not just Grayson, Todd or Drake, so I was ok with going with that name.

And really, considering all the ways you got go with the character, I thought the way it was fit into Nolan's version of batman was pretty brilliant.

Eh. I didn't understand what he meant by "legal" name in the end. Did he just mean full name? Sounded like he was using a fake name to begin with. Like a nick name, I just figured there was something about his parents that he didn't want to be reminded of.

Exactly. This movie is the end. It was a simple nod to the fans

this was the league of shadows's plan, but on a grander scale. gotham (america?) is the 1% to the rest of the world.

Also, Batman should have at least died.

you can't kill batman. even when batman dies, batman doesn't die. it's in the comics.

good catch! hadn't thought of that.

The fight happening in the light was great, I never noticed that before.

So did anyone feel the adrenaline pumping when those cops charged the mercenaries? I don't know what it was about that scene, the personification of good vs evil, but it was just so jaw dropping for some reason.

he wasn't using a fake name. The idea is that his name is Robin Jon Blake and he goes by Jon, maybe because he doesn't like Robin or was made fun of growing up for having a "girly" name. That makes a lot more sense and is a lot easier to swallow (especially in the last few minutes of a movie and trilogy, when you don't want to confuse the audience or open up a can of worms) than for whatever reason him having a completely different name just to please diehard comic book fans, who Nolan has already shown he has no interest in catering to in the first place with the way he plays around with characters origin stories and backgrounds. Nolan's never been a slave to the canon, that's one of the things that helped him make these movies his own vision, so why start now?

Ah. I never caught anyone calling him John. Makes sense. I withdraw my complaint (thought that exchanged did sound really bad).
