Couldn't agree more. Even though I hated that ending at the cafe, I would've liked it much more if we only saw Alfred look up. Hold on him for a couple of seconds. Cut.
Showing Alfred looking up and getting a look on his face, period, and then going from that to Blake in the cave would have been so perfect. Showing Bruce, IMO, completely undermined and made the dying in the nuclear blast thing lose its impact. I already didn't like the nuclear explosion thing to begin with, but had they actually stuck to the impact they tried to go with, as in-- that's the last time we, the audience, sees Batman/Bruce, it would have been a lot more effective.
Then showing each character getting their individual moment of realization, finally ending on Alfred maybe seeing something that he's been wanting to see for years, would have been incredibly poignant. Instead, we get the most corny, on the nose reveal-- everything is fine, there's Bruce and Selina, bro-fist head nod, etc. Completely ruined it.
Anyway, what I don't get is if you are unwilling to support, defend or even explain your opinion besides a unsubstantiated hypothetical that nolan could have somhow, someway made it better, then why are you in this thread? Whats there to discuss if you have nothing to offer and refuse to take any criticism of your opinion?
I
have supported and defended and explained my opinion. I can't help it that you feel as if I haven't, or disagree with the way I've attempted to back my feelings up. I feel like I can't "win" this discussion with you unless I flat out write a better ending. Like I said, I can't do that, and I wouldn't even if I felt like I could. What I can do, and all I can do, is attempt to articulate why almost everything in the final act rubbed me the wrong way.
And I'm not the only person. There are other people in this very thread that felt these things weren't that great either, but I don't see you challenging them to come up with something better.
