is there any ambiguity about Lucius being alive? My friend just asked if he died, but I thought the last shot was of him talking w/ the Wayne Corp. engineers about Bruce modifying the Bat w/ autopilot??

No, that's wrong. It is alluded to. The viewer has to pick up on the little clues here and there.

People complain about things being "spoon fed" to the audience, and then complain that a certain plot point wasn't alluded to enough throughout the earlier parts of the movie...

It is all there. Dagget says to Bane that he ruined the plan or something to that effect and Bane responds "Everything is proceeding as planned"

It had 2 important functions.

1. It left Dent's good name and deeds pure and unsullied. Like they say in the movie, the revelation about Dent being a murdering psycho would have ruined all they had achieved.
2. It made Batman someone to fear again. In TDK we learned that criminals were no longer afraid of Batman due to his code. They feared Joker, as he was a man without rules or a moral code. A man who would kill anyone in cold blood. The lie allows Batman to once again strike fear into the hearts of criminals.

Both true, but then again
1. Dent's good actions all came before being blown half to hell. Him going crazy from being half melted + the loss of Rachel, shouldn't effect criminals he had prosecuted before that point.
2. Would have caused Criminals to worry that Batman kills, except Batman disappeared. So perhaps for a few months to 1 year, yeah, Criminals worried. But once it was apparent that Batman wasn't around anymore, did it matter.

How did Wayne get from prison on one end of the earth, onto Gotham island undetected in under 37 seconds?

This film was so bad. Not in the same league as BB, TDK, Inception, Prestige, and Transformers 1.

Loved that scene so much. Wanted to get up and chant with the prisoners. And then the blind doctor chants as well, so awesome.

Loved the happy ending. I was prepping myself for a dark, somber ending, and then the happy ending happens, and I'm like

Just wish there was more Alfred. I know why their interaction is limited at the ending, but I do wish there was some "more" between Bruce and Alfred. But it's satisfying enough. The more time passes, the more I love the ending.

Bane was dealt with quickly, but it made sense the only thing that could take him down and keep him down was a .50 caliber anti-aircraft gun.

Yeah, I was crying when the Bat was flying away, and then my tears turned into those of joy when Alfred sees Bruce and Selina. Why Nolan play with my emotions like that, you filmmaker you.

A few thoughts:

- Whenever Alfred teared up, i teared up. His acting is so genuine and I'm not sure I can watch the burial part without crying.... so good.

- The extras at the stadium trying to act scared made me lol.

- Loved Bane's power and brutality. Especially when he beats batman's ass.

- Selina was hot and her character worked out better than expected.

- Kind of dissappointed in the soundtrack, no significant number of memorable tracks, unlike Inception.

- How the eff did he survive the bomb?

- There were probably about 6 sentences that I did not understand from Bane.

- I've seen it twice and want to go again, seriously one of my favorite movies ever.

Exactly. There are so many little things to pick up on about her true nature, that thinking her villainy came out of left field is just silly.

I can pick out a favorite scene in both TDK and TDKR with ease. BB is MUCH tougher for me, as the entire first act never ceases to blow my mind no matter how many times I see it. So for now, just TDK and TDKR:

TDK:

- "I have to save him!" Gary Oldman fucking slays me in this scene. He sounds so utterly defeated and in such despair. He feels total guilt and responsibility for what Dent has become.

TDKR:

- "RISE". One of those moments of audiovisual euphoria that makes you want to stand up and cheer along with the prisoners. Just a really epic, uplifting moment.

so in retrospect, everyones favourite moment from the series?

Oh, you. You just couldn't let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force...meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptible, aren't you? Huh? You won't kill me...out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness. And I won't kill you...because you're just too much fun.

I think you and I are destined to do this forever.

Lucius climbed out of the fusion reactor chamber before it flooded, so he was fine.

Fuuuuck, and when the theme drops right when Batman dives. Sogoood.

My favorite "visual" in the trilogy though is probably The Joker with his head out of the window or the last shot of TDKR.

I know the films are quite different in tone, but how did people feel it stacked up to the Avengers? Personally i think the Avengers has the edge as its writing was more consistant throughout. I still thought TDKR was great though. I thought it was Christian bales best performance as Bruce Wayne and i actually liked the robin reference.

TDK:

The very beginning of the interrogation scene, when Batman appears out of nowhere

TDKR:

Ties between when Batman first shows up in the tunnel leading to the cop chase, and when Batman saves Gordon and tells him to light up the flare, out of darkness comes Batman

How is the climbing scene audio and visual euphoria it is him climbing up the wall for the 3rd time (?) in almost the exact same manner except this time we know 100% he is going to make it because he has no rope. The prisoners were chanting the same thing before when he failed so it was just boring.

"You thought we could be decent men in an indecent time"

The mood, the unbelievable score, the lighting, the hopeless sense of dread. Everything so perfectly surmised the loftier ideas in the comic in this one scene. And Eckart was the unsung hero of TDK

The whole series is hard. I've seen Begins and TDK so many times and TDKR only once. I guess I'll just list from each movie.

BB: Bruce standing in the swarm of bats.
TDK: Bruce and Alfred shutting down the Batcave 2.0., though I also love Joker in the squad car.
TDKR: "Light it up."

TDKR definitely has more inconsistent writing but what is actually written is much more interesting than anything Avengers had to offer for me.

TDKR is the messier film but I enjoyed it a lot more.

But wont Gotham become irradiated now?

It's a new kind of bomb. I give it a pass on that.

Are the fights actually well shot this time? Inception gave me vague hope that Nolans learning how to.

People told me it was fantastic. I think it's pretty mediocre choreography, albeit a bit more brutal than TDK or BB. If Tony Jaa's is a 10 and William Shatner's is a 1, The Dark Knight Rises is a 6.

EDIT: Though it's certainly the best action delivered by Nolan.

TDKR:

i just got chills watching that. what a great movie this was.

as far as my standings:

BB = TDKR > TDK

TDK is great and better than most movies, but its focus on Joker is what puts it below the other 2 for me.

But wont Gotham become irradiated now?

I don't know how far out a bomb would have to be to not have nuclear fallout, and I'm sure they can't use any of the water in that bay for a very long time, but in the situation of "Should I let this bomb blow up on us or blow up near us" I think 'near us' is the best option.

This post is boring.

Because its predictable its boring? Man, why do we even watch movies? Just keep getting bored over and over!

It obviously wasn't a fast event, but I agree the timeline of events got discarded after a while. It goes from "23 days..." to "12 hours" without much accounting for how much time was passing in between.

Wayne getting back into the city via emergency aid trucks or some other means isn't a stretch, I just would like to have seen it happen.

To be badass Internet movie critics. I sometimes wonder if people even enjoy things anymore or are they so obsessed at picking things apart and being armchair directors. Part of me wants to blame redlettermedia and people inspired by it, not realizing what he was actually doing in those videos.

I too would have preferred to see him journey back to Gotham a bit more, but I'll take what we got.

Great question, this is toughie but I have to go with this

http://i.imgur.com/sIiKY.png[IMG]

"People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy and I can't do that as Bruce Wayne, as a man I'm flesh and blood I can be ignored I can be destroyed but as a symbol, as a symbol I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting."

Something elemental, something terrifying.
Great pick

And solo is right. Oldman was a force of nature acting wise in TDK. "No. I have to save Dent." is so flat on the page, but Oldman really sells whats at stake here
