Scotty McCerry (S10) went platnium in album sales and a couple of hits on the country radio format. Phillip Phillips recently just went gold on his idol winner single. The winners have been doing decently ever since Idol left RCA for Interscope

Album sales wise yes. And PP from last years single has sold very well.

However, neither has had any real radio impact which portends a dark future.

If "American Idol" wants Mariah Carey to be one of their new judges, they are going to have to break the bank ... this according to Mr. Carey himself, Nick Cannon.

Mariah is one of the big names that has surfaced since Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced they were not coming back to "Idol" next season.

Cannon told our photog yesterday that it's going to take a HUGE payday to get Mimi to fill Lopez's vacant seat. He told us, "I don't know if they can afford Mariah Carey. That's a lot of money. If they gave JLo $20 million, they might have to double that!"

My guess? J Lo went on the show and suddenly had 2 megahit singles that vaulted her back into the money and the limelight. Other older artists are looking at this, then looking at their own record sales, then pretty much saying "I will take whatever you will pay me".

Just the way it seems to me.

Meh. As much as I have tons of problems with Idol. Outside the auditions the Voice is a terrible show imo. Quit watching a few weeks after auditions both season. Plus imo the talent is lacking (in b4 pretending a show with probably a faction of the number of auditions +No relevant singer produced somehow manages to get better singing talent than Idol)

Mariah Carey is a legend. She definitely belongs in the AAA+++ list

I guess being a judge can be good promo for her next album, though.

Why would ANYONE with talent go on a show that so much about the judges and their drama, that has lower ratings, that has produced no viable artists, and has such a closed (aka rigged since they obviously plan at least partly ahead of time to make it work) auditions? Plus not sure what you are talking about drama and antics wise......Idol is pretty straight forward compared to Xfactor and The Voice. The judges don't really fight and like everyone.....its pretty boring actually.
