Dota 2 Beta Thread 2: Real Talk Discouraged [Magnus, Teams, 6.75b, 150+ Shop Items]

For anyone wondering why Dendi went Dagon:

1. It's instant cast.
2. This is the biggest one. When Morph uses eth blade, he goes into eth form too. Dagon damage is amplified by ethereal damage, laser is not. Dendi is trying to instagib Morph when he shotguns someone.

But now Morph can BKB out of his own Ethereal Form. :(

And at 120/100 mana and 700/800 damage (level 4/5), it's magnitudes cheaper and harder hitting than his own damage nukes. Even so, he's burning through mana so quickly. Mystic Staff into a Sheepstick would be oh so helpful.

People also waste time in single draft.

Hmm...when I played random draft (I can't remember how it went with single draft for me as that was a while ago), picking goes by fairly quickly and everyone generally picks within the allotted time. It never bleeds into picks happening during prematch setup like all pick does.

So, they are boosted CM's breast by the looks of it. The one thing I don't like about Valve making Dota 2, is that they're putting too much emphasis on girls... characteristics.
Eh not really. They changed her chest piece slightly(which did add a sliver of more exposure due to evening it out) and added some shading to smooth things out which can make them look bigger I guess. The girls in Dota 2 imo are much more tasteful than what I've seen in most games. You have some with no "exposure" like Luna and then others like QoP(for obvious reasons).

In RD, it automatically gives you a hero if you don't pick within the time limit. In the other modes (excluding CM) it does not. It just lets everyone get a start ahead of you while you haven't picked.

I usually find that SD teams sometimes fall into place quickly. Someone gets a choice of a pubstomper hero (Lycan, Viper, Ursa), and then if the team is good, the rest of the team falls into place around that. Either that or everyone sees their best hero in their own choices, and lock them. Sometimes that goes well, other times it does not, like if their best heroes are all carries.

Didn't you have an Enchantress ass avatar a while back?

Seriously though, I disagree, the women in Dota 2 are kept pretty tasteful. Each one has an actual personality and doesn't just walk around spouting innuendo (except for QoP, but that's kind of the point since she's a succubus). I agree with Luna being a good example, with her wearing full armor that hardly exposes her at all.

One thing I remember about League of Legends is most of it's female heroes were the large-chested, innuendo-spouting girls. Some of the skins for these heroes even furthered this. I always thought it was strange that Caitlin (the one that has Sniper's Ult) had a movement line that was something like "Sorry boys, left the fuzzy cuffs at home." I could see QoP saying something like this, but throwing this on pretty much every hero? WTF, I say.

I also notice that Dota 2 doesn't seem to have the female "armor" problem as much as other games. Windrunner wears lighter clothing, but is still slightly armored, due to her being a archer. Luna rides into the heat of battle, which is why she has so much armor. Mirana is a priestess, so she has sort of tribal wear. Phantom Assassin is another good example.

So yeah I wish picking order for all-pick worked more like RD's then. I just hate having to wait for people to pick while we're setting up lanes. I can't count how many times where people haven't picked and the game starts with people scrambling into their lanes (or having a shitty mid b/c of it).

All this talk about the female models made me remember: I fucking hate Lina's model. She walks around like a bird. Chest pushed out, arms out like wings.

It's what the audience demands.

seems like a brilliant strategy. did it work?

Now I want a GIF of Nick Cage holding Clarities, screaming, "How'd it get burned!? HOW'D IT GET BURNED!?"

Cut to Tinker chewing his pipe.

Fayde in HoN was basically Nyx yeah? I never played original DotA but I did play HoN ... she seems like him. I loved Fayde.
Fayde 1.0 was basically a shitty Nyx.

Fayde 2.0 is Nyx with less burst and more carry potential.

Fail reaction time on the Andro, though I dont know that a stun swap would of saved it ... pretty boss walking around through the trees like that though lol.

Korok stuns the Andromeda before he gets anything off. He throws off a stun after the blink that hits both Jereziah and Andro. It was a touch late maybe, but I'm guessing the blink saved him from getting swapped.

My biggest problem with all pick is the virtual stare down that happens. People won't pick until the very end in an attempt to counter pick the other team. It screws your own team over as well since the setup time is completely wasted. I wish Valve would just make it so that each team takes turns picking in all- pick (10 seconds with maybe 10-20 seconds reserve time). That way the pre match setup time isn't wasted.

I've been noticing this as I queue with friends more. My team of four had some random pubber snag Lycan and it took the enemy team the entire set up phase to settle on Ursa, Anti-Mage and Nightstalker.

I mean, really. If you're going to choose these pub stompy heroes, does it really take you over three minutes to decide on them?

It's annoying when your team does it though since, as you mentioned, you're working out lanes and buying your shit and suddenly your random will grab a second jungler and you're awkwardly trying to re-shift the rest of your team around and you're carrying less efficient items for the lane.

It's not like we're all pros here. Just pick what hero you like people.

Sure did.

Oh well, no biggee, just wanted to complain about the silliness.

It's not that silly. It's not an open beta. They make it super easy to get in though with all the invites out there. I got my friends some invites by converting(trading) some of their TF2 items into keys to trade for it.

Oh don't use your logic on me!

WHERES THE PATCH WTF OMG!

Also all pick is annoying when you have those people who wait till everyone has picked to pick... but in my experience they usually dont even do that well >.< a few games the other team all waited pretty much till we picked, then picked, but we still won pretty easily.

I like draft though, its fun and it forces you to use heros you might not usually play.

Havent tried captains mode yet, mainly because I dont want to be a captain >.>

I agree with you there...counter picking is largely ineffective but my main problem with it is that it really screws your own team out of coordinating during the prematch phase when you have teammates that wait until the very
last possible moment to pick. Having a system in which people pick in a more orderly fashion would eliminate that.
