a potential online date told me yesterday: "you should definitely get rid of your goatee, I don't like you with it" ... I lol'd.. am I supposed to change my appearance just to please some random guy I don't even know personally?? hell, no. I am amazed at the stupidity people display when trying to get a date.
Sister took me out for sushi. It was a nice treat but I suspecting she wants the favour returned when she comes to visit. I've got some last minute packing (forgot bedding... oops) then I have to book my ticket. It's almost surreal.

My friend made me watch it one time. Took me halfway thru the episode to realize that the black guy running around judging people and hosting was Ru Paul

I have to admit that while I like facial hair on a guy, I prefer a "scruffy" kind of look instead of a very defined beard/moustache/goatee.

thanks. well, regarding the avatar there are several reasons but one is that I really couldn't get into the RPJ community, it was just lonely straight guys hitting on all of girl-gaf and too chaotic for my liking and saw no point in keeping the pic any longer. It was fun at the beginning though, let's see what happens in January and who's around by then.

I'm trying to get into an college art program but I never got into art in high school due to a computer error (I had a 98% in grade 9, highest in class). It's a course titled "Digital Media Design" and is mainly focused on web design, photoshop, 3D modelling and animation. It wants me to have a portfolio but I obviously don't have one. What's the best way to get into art/web design? I'd be willing to take a basic art course to catch up and allow me to create a portfolio over a year or two but I'm so confused as to how to do it.
Can someone please help me? I don't have anyone in my life so NeoGAF is the only one I can ask. :'(

What kind of portfolio do you need? Fine art stuff or something digital/web related?
Don't know. Probably the latter. I'm going to the college next week to find out. I'm thinking about taking the year off to save up money and learn how to make 3D models + learn HTML via tutorials online. Then maybe I can make a portfolio over the year and I might even be ahead of things when I get there!
I think it would be worth honing your fine art skills, the one thing I find important when assembling a portfolio is the ability to show variety and versatility. Might be something to consider, a good mix of mediums may serve you well especially for a course that deals in different areas of digital art.
I think most 3d modelling courses assume you don't know a thing about it. If there's some sort of requirement I think it would be drawings and sculptures, something that shows you understand form, space and shape. Obviously, you should start with drawing. Start sketching whatever you want and sketch, sketch, sketch all day long. Get a sketchbook and sketch everything around you. I'm starting to sound like all of my professors
If you really want to do some 3d modelling, you should probably try zbrush or sculptris first. More user friendly and easier than diving directly into Maya or 3dsmax. I haven't had a lot of time with sculptris, but it's definitely worth a check (and it's free). http://www.pixologic.com/sculptris/
And yes, you will probably need a wacom tablet or something if you don't want to get carpal tunnel.

Drove a bunch of my stuff down yesterday. Took the bus in with the rest today. I have a small section of the apartment curtained off and it looks pretty homeless. Hurray for temporary housing.

Yeah. It starts with a lot of people participating in the thread, and as it becomes bigger and more random, the people participating reduce and it actually becomes a small community. Sometimes it's almost like a chat.

I tried to participate in the RPJ community, but the thread was only active when it was night here (I woke up and there were few hundreds new posts every day), and was completely dead during the day. So after few days I just passed too.
