Dota 2 Beta Thread 2: Real Talk Discouraged [Magnus, Teams, 6.75b, 150+ Shop Items]

Also, another question- why is it that sometimes my fully charged illuminate will completely desolate an entire creepwave some times, but leave some of the melee creeps with a fraction of health at other times? This is like two identical circumstances- Is the creeps' magic resistance variable or something?

Lane creeps actually gain stats ove the course of the game, getting stronger even if you don't destroy a barracks. So the creeps you see 30 minutes in have more health than those at minute 0.

I wonder how DotaTV is doing sales wise. There are about 250 people watching the IG Monthly Madness right now (compared to 6500 on the Own3d stream). The tickets for that event are $2 each so that's $500 in revenue that is known in this point in time (of course it is impossible to know total sales).

There's also the issue of the organizer/Valve revenue split. I hope the organizers get the lion's share of revenue. I know hat creators get 25% revenue, but games sold on Steam get 70%.

I got a Defense ticket and the last couple of matches there were around 200 viewers--not a whole lot. It seems people prefer spending their money on items, for now.

Altho I'm curious what the in-game viewer count for the International 2 will be... And how much tickets will be.

How are you guys building KotL?

I'm tending to work towards tranquil boots and a bracer for survivability, then progress towards shadow blade, eventually disassembling my boots for travel boots so I can safely push all over the map like a boss. Seriously- whole creep waves falling is the best thing, especially if you accurately predict where they'll be by looking at where your creeps are on the minimap.

Keep in mind this is if there is a more traditional support on the team doing all the warding and stuff.

Why Shadow Blade?

Thanks for the BH tips....looks like consensus is two points in Shuriken and max Jinada first. I guess that's better for my playstyle as well since I find myself not being able to throw many shurikens in the first place and having mana problems. One other question...is track gold gained on BH global or does BH need to be within X units of the kill to get the extra gold? I'm a little confused on how track works in that sense...

edit- also is it worth building a bottle if you're in the side lanes since as a ganker, you'll be switching lanes quite a bit?

So is there any word on when Dota 2 will be released to the general public?

I love the upgraded item graphics, and when a developer tends to things like this it can sometimes mean that a game is headed for release I would imagine. Are they going to wait until all characters from the first game are released before they release it or something?

Valve said they need enough servers to handle everyone interested in the game. So whenever they get the capacity is when it will be available to everyone.

A few months ago I would have said it would be in open beta during TI2, but now I'm not as sure.

I generally agree with that skill build, but I would like to point out how you may sometimes see professional players max skuriken first. Loda did this in a game recently I believe. Not that it is the best way to play a BH, but there is some flexibility in how you skill him. It's all preference and situation in the end, of course.

In Loda's case, it was an off-lane solo BH with a bottle, so he had the chance to spam a bit more than some may in a match as BH earlier on.

I've already seen 4 people make the same comment on bans, then get banned on Dota 2. I wonder how much time you have left.

i play him like a support so warding everywhere and 2 supports isnt bad in a game

creeps gain extra hp over time

Ezalor has no escape and is pretty squishy. Shadowblade solves that.
But Shadow Blade is not really a good escape item and the other stuff it gives you doesn't seem to be worth much on a KotL.
But then again, I suppose that in pubs that entire sentence loses meaning because nobody ever buys detection.

Guys I got 9 summer chests lying around.

If anyone wants them they can have em, I'm not going to open them.

If you want to give me any items you don't want I'd love to have them, but you can have the chests regardless, they'll just go to waste in a day or two.

Also props to Detox. Eh's a cool guy adn doesn't afraid of anything.

Wow, Mouz just threw that game badly.

They have such bad farm distribution and late game heroes aside from the Morphling. Look at the gold chart: Morphling with a shitload of gold, followed by 4 semi-carries from Na'Vi, then all of the rest of Mouz is below them on support relegated shit lategame heroes. It's not even ComeWithMe's fault. Nobody else on his team can provide anything for him at this point.

ComeWithMe made a huge mistake, you don't play so aggressive without buyback especially in that situation. I don't think Black ever make this kind of mistakes.

Look at the endgame levels:

Na'Vi 25-24-25-25-16
Mouz 19-25-17-15-16

No carry can handle that, not in a pro game against Na'Vi.

This game perplexes me because I think the casters were entirely wrong about Mouz ever being in a really good position. They were balanced entirely on that Morphling, and every carry (even Black) makes mistakes that cost them their lives, especially against a Tinker with chain Hex, Dendi Invoker with Aghanim's and so many farmed up heroes. Mouz were never going to win that game with how far behind the rest of their heroes were.

agreed on both thoughts.

Just curious apart from morphling is ethereal blade viable on any other hero as opposed to getting another item?

Nyx Assassin is probably the only other character that could probably do decently just building it raw, but Lina and Luna get it from time to time.

lol the thread on reddit has so many people defending AA's slurs using stupid hyperbole. Gogogo dota community. -_-

can one of the mumble administrators remove the old "barnone" certificate from the server? I lost that a while ago and need to authenticate with a new certificate, preferably still barnone.

Something tells me AA doesn't even realize what he's saying, nor does he mean it to sound homophobic. I'm not quite sure if it's worth making a huge fuss about, hopefully he learns different insults in the future.

Tobi got grilled for using the word nigger early this year, and that wasnt even in a tournament. I'd put homophobic slurs on the same level. If you gotta swear why would you even need to pick a discriminatory one? Is he 16 years old or something?

The only thing I was making a fuss about though was the retarded hyperbole idiots use whenever they defend the use of such terms. Yes people are totally saying kick AA from Navi...thats clearly the truth.

Actually cyborgmatt's tweet makes it sound like Navi or just AA have used these kind of slurs before which means at some point he must have had it explained to him. Sure he probably doesn't mean it as an affront to all homosexuals but that doesn't make it any better. I wouldn't compare this to Tobi's remark which while you can somewhat say AA's slur was caused by rage (not acceptable especially from a pro), Tobi went much further constructing an entire racist phrase which he tried to pass off as some kind of common joke.

How does that mean he's had it explained before?

These technical issues in competitive matches are really distressing to me. It seems like every single game of Dota 2 has 20% of its net time spent paused with people crashing, lagging, servers fucking up, vanishing save files and so on. When there's money on the line, this kind of stuff is just not OK. I know it's beta, but that's the point: they should focus on fixing this kind of stuff before adding umpteen bazillion heroes to the game.

Hopefully he learns to offend and belittle people differently.

is there a hotkey to select all units under your control? I just gave Lycan a try and several times I tried to select all and go only to discover that I'd accidentally only grabbed two of my three units and left either Lycan himself or a wolf behind.

Well I just assumed if a slur has been used in a game that can be seen by the public there must have been similar comments like now. Surely someone would have pointed it out to AA and explained the implications of the word.

Can't be a real dota game without pauses taking up a good 10 minutes.

Honestly I think there's a good chance it will launch at TI2.

Almost all the cm heroes are in, the rest are being reworked.

Can't find an official statement anywhere, just figure that TI2 is going to be a huge showing like TI1 was, and that would be perfect to announce or release the game.
