esports are boring, ive watched like 1 or 2 matches, and its just bleh >.< why watch when you can play?

Because its fun to watch high level play and its something to do when I dont wanna play. Same reason speedrun or challenge runs are fun to watch.

It's entertaining watching high level matches and seeing awesome strategies. It's also a fairly good learning tool if you want to understand how certain heroes need to be played.

Ha, I dont watch speed runs or challenges >.> I dont know, just bleh.

The most I watch is the top tens on dota cinema. And the character intros.

i used to think that then i watched tobi cast a few games and now its awesome. I do have to be in the mood for it, or it has to be a big game for me to get into it. And you learn some things

Lane creeps actually gain stats ove the course of the game, getting stronger even if you don't destroy a barracks. So the creeps you see 30 minutes in have more health than those at minute 0.

I'd thought so, but I've noticed a difference between consecutive waves rather than between a 10:00 and a 30:00 wave. Maybe I'm imagining it and am just a bit loopy... I'll see if I can get some footage of it or something.

But Shadow Blade is not really a good escape item and the other stuff it gives you doesn't seem to be worth much on a KotL.
But then again, I suppose that in pubs that entire sentence loses meaning because nobody ever buys detection.

And that's what I rely on- in the level that I play in (public matchmaking in a party with two friends), the other team almost never buys detection. Occasionally they'll get dust when they're playing against a riki, or wards against a brood. But generally, once I get shadow blade, I'm pretty safe. Even if they do catch me, mana leak can really ease chases anyway.

I think I'll start adding wards to my list- after I get boots, I accrue money pretty quickly, so it's not a big deal.

I've got another question though- I've seen people mention changing command lines allowing themselves to do specific things like attack their own creeps without having to select attack first. How would I go about doing something like that?

How are people building Nyx?

I see a lot of Dagon's picked up and I was wondering why. I know its nice to have that burst damage to finish a hero off quickly, but wouldn't stacking agility items scale with his ultimate better?

As a melee hero, what's the best way to deal with ranged heroes who can take free shots at you for days during the early lanes ? just hang in the back and get as much xp as possible ?

Sometimes you just want to go in for a few last hits and get out. It's better to play passive aggressive rather than full out aggressive.

It's in the suggested items for him. I assume that's why.
I got a heart cuz it told me to. Should have went agility items though

In a party with Mike Ross right now, you may know him if you follow fighting games at all. Had myself quite a few laughs with the ingame chat.

He's not a carry though, you want to destroy squishy supports or carrys so they cant pick up momentum. Dagon helps with this.

This one's for you Dreamsvisions

Kill them. If you can't kill them you chose a bad lane partner.

Well it's a pub match, so I don't get to choose who I play with.

The guides linked here have gave me different suggestions for starting items than the ones in the game shop, will try them out next time I play.

The summer creates expire today right???

Anyone who wants them to go to a good home, instead of letting them expire send them to a good home, I'll unlock each one ;)

I've been trying to play heroes I rarely use, or disliked when I first used them. Today I tried out Spirit Break and Clockwerk again and won both matches. I didn't do that spectacular with either, but I enjoyed playing them and helped the team out. When I was SB we had a Lifestealer, so I would just charge in with him inside me and he would burst out for huge damage. I also tried maxing flare first for Clockwerk, and this is the way to go. I think pretty much all my kills were from flares (including some well-timed cross map attacks). I cannot land his damn hookshot to save my life though.

Sacrifice everything for last hitting, you bought re-gen for a reason, hopefully by level 6 you will have a Ring of Health and a Stout Shield. You can turn that into Vanguard/Battle Fury.

The important thing is that the more levels melee heroes level the stronger they get in the laning phase so if you can c/s as much as possible and using re-gen its worth it.

The above advice is for short lane, now if your long lane suicide lane melee, say in lane get exp and don't die.

He's a gank burst hero, like a magic damage version of bounty hunter.

He doesn't have any steriods or skills that scale with attack stats (like fv's stun does with attack speed), he just has nukes. Early dagon then etheral blade is the best route for nuking, upgrading dagon is a waste. Past a dagon though you can build anything you want, some people like sheep/drums/eul's.

SB is really good for pubs, I'm surprised he's not picked more. He's one of my best performing heroes.

So I think I finally got my first abandonment today. Single Draft - Phantom Lancer was mid and mega fed. 0/5 in less than 10 minutes. Someone also got the courier killed twice - once in the first two minutes (SRSLY?) and again redirecting it like an idiot when it had consumables I needed on it, which led to my death.

So I was sitting in the fountain sort of AFK and I guess the game detected that and considered it an abandon. By the time I actually left the game it was 1/14 them at around 15 minutes in.

Also - apparently no one likes random draft? Queues for just that are extremely long, and I've never had it pop up otherwise.

Ugh. So I'm playing as Tide, who seems pretty straightforward for a noob like me. But damn, trying to keep track of what the other heroes do is so daunting. I always have to second guess choosing him because I don't want to step on the toes of someone else on my team.

What's the fastest way to learn other characters are their roles?

Play them ;) There's no way around playing all the heroes at least once.

Have a playdota guide open in the background or read it up beforehand. Try to play a new hero everygame. Play single draft, or random draft, so you are forced to play new heroes. Sure you will suck the first time, but just ignore the haters and ask for help in chat if you don't know what to do. (or quickly read up the guide lol)

So I've had my first experience online and... well, it's been quite ugly.

One minute in, a team mate leaves the game. Once we lost two towers, two team mates more decided to idle for the rest of the game.

All in all, I think I did quite well, all things considered. I played as Tide, BTW.

Guess I'll be going random for a couple weeks then haha. I have to say the amount of guides for this game is impressive.

You know nothing Jon Snow

less then that apparently.

Played a couple rounds with a ex lol player whos trying to convert to this and we did terrible against the bots.

Good news is a fellow gaffer spectated a few minutes and pointed a bunch of my malfunctions so that helped immensely so ty for that!

apparently venomancer shouldnt go 1v5 (which i tried.......constantly :( ).

my biggest problem going to be the buttons....im not to swift with kb/m if its not your generic FPS wasd then trying to learn item builds and the heroes....i got a LOOOOONG way togo

If you play all pick, it's probably better to read up a hero first, then pick him instead of randoming, just saying :)

Again I have to recommend playing with guides in the beginning, because you don't have to worry about items then, just pick what the guide says ;) (just don't use dotafire for the love of god)

Try playing against people if you have somebody to play with; bots are ridiculously good even on the lower difficulties. No random pub team has that kind of coordination lol

How does mTw go from essentially 4-0ing Na'Vi in a grand final yesterday to getting 2-0ed by Darer today, a team that has been struggling at best the last few weeks? They have some really strange ups and downs.
