The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

Only in the sense that it is also a third person shooter really. Controls are kinda different (though you CAN set it up to control like Shadowgun but I don't advise it). I did like Shadowgun quite a bit, especially the style of it. The gameplay was very solid but also quite barebones, Infiltrator on the other hand is pretty well fleshed out in that department with awesome controls envisioned completely for touch.

Ah, cool. Might have to give it a go. I liked Shadowgun too, especially the bosses, but after a short while it got a little too repetitive. Had some things that made it frustrating as well.

How does it play? What game is it similar to?

A little bit like arkham city but on a smaller scale. Using the Bat and the batpod were cool.

As someone who has been looking forward to more hack and slash loot games, Orc Vengeance is currently helping to fill this void. Nice little game.

It's a mediocre version of the Rocksteady Batman games. Not bad for 7 bucks, but don't expect much. Also, Gameloft didn't put an ounce of effort into a new story as the game rips of the movie storyline almost completely. So make sure you see the movie first!

As always: Wait for it to go on sale, I can nearly guaranteed it'll go down to like 2.99 within a month. That's what I'll wait for.

Anyone here looking into getting one of the rumored A5 equipped, taller screen iPod touches in a couple months for gaming purposes? I might get one since it would be much more portable than iPad. I assume it would play games at an iPad 2/iPhone 4S level of performance if it had 512MB ram.

I'm interested in picking up Chaos Rings but am unsure whether to go iPhone or iPad. I hear the HD version doesn't look significantly better on the iPad than the iPhone version does. Can anyone attest to this?

I am. That or if the iPad mini is real, I might get that though.

I can't wait for a bigger screen. My small touch screen doesn't do it for me anymore, heh.

Chaos rings on iPad is no HD app by any means. Stick with the cheaper iPhone version.

My experience with Dungeon Raid is the new classes don't appear very often, even after playing it a whole lot.

You just need to play as the adventurer. no level increases, so its all class unlocks. You can unlock all the classes pretty easily that way

. Do this, then play all the classes a bit and see what you like best, then level up and mix&match abilities and races.

Ok, help me on this one:

Infinity Blade II
Ravenmark
FF Tactics

Which one do I buy? :|

That is actually a tough one, but if you had to go with 1 I would go Ravenmark. IB2, is a good game but never gets quite as deep and interesting as Raven and FF Tactics is a great game but I hear that the iOS port job is less then optimal. Although they might have fixed some of that up with patches and stuff. Overall, get them all eventually but get Ravenmark now, it is outstanding and the team behind it need all the support they can get.

If it's a taller screen, don't expect it to work well with current games right away. They might have black bars until they get updated.

Galaxy On Fire 2: HD is currently £2.99, down from £6.99. I finally got around to picking it up, looking forward to seeing it run on the new iPad later.

i recall it running quite poor at launch. Gotta tweak with options to get it to run well on ipad 3.

And pirates on iphone is surprisingly decent. controls are a bit odd and duel controls frankly suck, but it's fun stuff.

I do wonder if i will ever find all my family members cuz i always forget about that when i played the other versions ;P

The iPad mini which is expected to launch at the same time is probably a better bet for gaming, since it will be able to run iPad only games as well.

I am still very curious to see how it will work with games built for the 10" screen, some are not out yet but MTG, Baldurs Gate, Frozen Synapse and Dungeons of Dredmor all indicated the UI was made for that size and no smaller...

Yes well I already have a 3rd gen iPad and an iPhone so a mini doesn't interest me much.

Not to mention the fact that it'll almost certainly not have the retina 2048 x 1536 resolution.

Not entirely true for Baldur's Gate, at least any more. They are porting it to a few Android devices soon after release which are a bit smaller than the iPad, around the 7" range I think. They also said they'd look in to iPhone support down the road, if there's a way to get it working as well. Since the game supports pinch zooming, it's really just a matter of whether or not the UI can be managed, and GemRB does it (though perhaps not ideally).

The resolution issue will be interesting, to see how that's handled. The simplest solution would just be to run the original iPad resolution, but at a smaller size screen, giving you better dpi than the iPad 1 or 2, but not as high as the iPad 3... but it probably wouldn't be good enough to be called retina. So if they introduce a third resolution between the two, games will then have to be updated to support it, and maybe until then they just run at the original iPad resolution scaled up to the screen. If this iPad mini even happens! It's all just rumors still right? It's also supposed to compete at a lower price point, so they probably can't throw all the bells and whistles of the iPad 3 in it at half the price either.

It is just rumours yes but usually, with Apple, when the rumours are this prominent they end up being true.

I can't imagine BG on the smaller screen, but then if the developers release it for iPad and the mini runs iPad software it will have to scale I guess.

Over the weekend my lady got to playing the new Jurassic Park game on my iPhone. I had to wrestle the phone away from her any time I needed it. Seems like it's a fun theme park game that doesn't really feel like a freemium game (to me). Looking forward to seeing how she evolves her park.

iPad 3 version gives you 3 resolutions to pick, you get 1024x768, 1440x900 or something and then the full retina, which looks amazing but looking at action or a large station will kill your frame rate. I personally play it in ipad 2 res it still looks great.

I had to jump on the app store and download the game as soon as I saw this post. Jurassic Park owns.

I am. As soon as Apple announces their next fall conference I’m listing my current iPod on eBay.

I can’t justify the monthly fees for owning an iPhone, and while I want an iPad, it’s not something I can carry around with me everywhere. Owning an iPod touch has always felt like the neglected stepchild in the Apple family. Numerous luxuries I covet of the iPhone aren’t included. The lack of a hardware update last year made it even worse. I am really hoping that this year not only do they bring the horsepower up to speed with the iPhone & iPad, but they throw in some of those iPhone luxuries as well (Glass front, IPS screen, decent camera).

On a whim I checked to see if an update was out for Cthulu Saves the World since I had uninstalled it, finding the first release unplayable.

Well, one is out. I've tried it out and the font is better, the controls are better, no orientation issues, and it hasn't crashed on me even once. This is a much better release and I'd recommend everyone download the update if they couldn't play the first release.

I'd like to back up my saves of Tiny Towers and Pocket Planes (to iCloud) and then delete both games from my iOS device. In other words, I want them off my device now, but I'd like to be able to pick them back up in the near future. Is there any easy way to do this?

An easy way? No. But iExplorer will allow you to back up your saves. The software is kind of a hassle to use, as it becomes unusable after about 30 seconds and you have to restart it in order to move an app's doc folder over to your PC. It gets the job done, but again, it's not an easy fix.

Oh. That's brutal. And is it available for OS X? Ugh. I figured there had to be an easy way to do this.

I don't know how far you'll be able to play before you hit a paywall, but Legend Four looks like it's good for a few hours of fun if you're done with 10000000 and Dungeon Raid.

More RPG/Puzzle hybrid goodness, but cursed with a freemium system (which who knows, may not be that bad, sometimes you can grind through them without too much difficulty especially if you're enjoying the game). Quick impressions are it's very polished and brings some new ideas to the table with the multiple characters' element system, and branching unique abilities of the characters and also of the enemies control on the battlefield. It's also turn-based, so no pressure to get moves in.

Bitless is a pretty cool platformer. it's one of those games where it moves you forward and you just jump, but it's pretty tough and the levels are small enough to keep replaying until you beat them

I don't know if this thread is the best place for this, but has anyone here had their iPad just refuse to rotate orientation? It just happened to mine; no software locks in place, various restarts and no dice.

It's restoring to factory state right now, but it's taking its sweet time :(

Pocket Planes stores it's save file in iCloud if you have 'Documents & Data' enabled in your iCloud settings, this file remains even if you remove the game from your device (you manage cloud stored files via iCloud's 'Manage Storage'. Tiny Tower however does not save to iCloud that way so it won't remain if you remove it from all your devices.

iExplorer is availble for OSX (not sure if it's freeware anymore, if version 3 is shareware, try and find an older version which should be fully functional and free)

Example of where games stores their save files (Infinity Blade 1 used) in the 'Documents' folder:

Just delete them..they are already saved to iCloud. When I switched from an iPod touch 4 to an iPhone 4s...I deleted tiny tower and then reinstalled it on my iphone. Upon starting it up a message popped up saying there is a more recent save and if I would like to use that.

Im not sure about pocket planes but Im guessing it works the same way.

Is there no workaround to updating your Apps and stuff while being "suspended" for billing issues? I just owe Apple like 2,39 € and it's mostly their damn fault for choosing to not do instant charges and making me think I can buy more than I can, sheesh. And that's the timing 8 of these developers choose to update their stuff on! Shit sucks, just don't let me buy next time, Apple.

Had that happen once, turns out it was an errant app that didn't allow rotation that hadn't closed fully (Bejeweled), terminated it and then it worked again.
