This video starting at 20:00 shows a really REALLY cool Thief build with a guy who knows exactly what he is doing. Seriously, watch him play the tournament match, he plays 3v5 and then 2v5 and manages to never die and get tons of kills/contests. It's AWESOME.
I admit I don't even get the first two jokes
So I found the diving board in The Grove and I already knew about the LA one, but I didn't know about the diving goggles and dive out in the open world.

Hey GWGaf, have you guys decided on a server yet? At the moment I'm really torn between which server/guild to choose since I think that's probably the most important decision come launch date, as it would determine the first few people you meet and level up with, compared to switching guilds a month or two down the road and being an outsider, essentially.
Anyone else having that dilemma or are most of you guys going with the Neogaf guild? I'm choosing between Giant Bomb, Reddit and Neogaf right now, with Team Liquid as a peripheral guild as well.
New client update available.
It looks like a big one (10,000+ files)
Feels like the longest wait ever now.
I think the Mesmer is definitely going to be an investment class - might not work the way it should at first, but once I level one up and once the eventual fixes get applied, I'll have experience and a lot of levels with a truly wonderful class.
Even with its problems, I had a blast with my Asura Mesmer in BWE3. I put all my points and gear into +Power and got myself a Greatsword, and I felt quite powerful.
I just saw this. Fucking brilliant.

Melee mesmer is the only decent way to play them. Greatsword mesmer isn't melee though. You'd think that, but then you find out your auto attack is this retarded "shoot laser from greatsword hovering between your hands" bullshit.
Sword/pistol is good though.
Mesmer can be either ranged or melee, but I don't think their ranged options are very good.
Mesmer currently is a...????
I don't think even ArenaNet knows what they're supposed to be. With Sword/Pistol you just play like a melee semi-spellcaster class. Your sword abilities are good melee attacks that do deal good damage and you have a cripple. You get illusionary duelist (which is big damage) and a ranged stun/daze/immobilized (it attacks 3 players). It doesn't really compare to any other class I can think of.
Have they said anything regarding the region switching? I'll be moving from Japan to Europe a month after the game launches and buying a second copy isn't an option.

Where's the best place to read up on the class?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_mesmer_skills a list of all Mesmer skills/traits (probably not up to date, but that's not really important)
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/49-mesmer/ has whole lot of whining with some decent Mesmer discussion in between
Looks like someone has never read A song of ice and fire. The Kingsmoot!
criver is probably a play on krewes
"So is a Mesmer a melee character? I figured Warrior/Guardian/Thief were the main ones and the rest "could" be but weren't very viable.
As much as I read about the "any weapon for all" type of gameplay I'm sure there are some limitations (like I've read about ranged and Guardian). But what exactly is the Mesmer class? Any basic MMO classes you could compare them too?"

So two builds I'll go with on my thief.
The condition build which I've done before... and a backstab/stealth build I've never tried. Never even tried backstab either... I didn't learn about the skills you get w hen stealthed until after BWE1, which was the last time I tried thief.
I'm thinking of starting with Thief myself after watching a lot of videos from BWE3. I'm a sucker for high mobility classes, and they've got some crazy shit on that front.
I wasn't a fan of their teleporting crap, a lot of it seemed gimmicky. Ya sword allows me to teleport in then back out... but then what? I guess switch to gun? Well fuck I was just in the guys face.. why do i wanna teleport out? Hardest thing about this game is getting in range.
I assume that is meant to close off that direction of escape for the target, or give you an out if you teleport into some shit you can't handle.
Can anyone point me to some info about how big the world is. I am very much into exploration and poking around all corners of a map. Curious how big this game is vs WoW, or Tera, or other MMOs.

That I know, but when they've announced the locked, they've also said something along the lines of "We get that people travel. Stay tuned for more info." and I was wondering if we're still in the dark about that. You need to have a EU copy of the game to play from there. I imagine you could proxy if necessary. I'm pretty sure they just filter by IP. What server you play on is unrelated.
I know for a fact that zone sizes are larger than say WoW's as I've done direct comparisons, but not only that, space isn't wasted and is filled with content. If you like exploration, there really isn't a better MMO in recent times.
Between hidden DEs, hidden merchants, Jumping Puzzles, Vistas, mobs grant more XP the longer they're alive, exploration flags, and other things we may not know about, you will absolutely love this game if you like to explore.
As an example, inside one of the cities there's a hidden jumping puzzle/maze with deadly traps that is EXTREMELY well hidden and at the end of a perfect 13 minute run of it it ends with akarma merchant that sells pirate weapons

There's items devoted to poking around. There's a flag item you plant, and the farther away it is from any other planted flag the higher you will be on a scoreboard or something. Haven't seen the item itself, but data digging has found it. So ya, exploration is a big part of it. There's vast jumping puzzles (with chests at the end) as well as getting rewards for exploring the entire section of zones.

Rata Sum? It's only city I know that has a jumping puzzle.

You might like this video (or listen to it if you dont want to spoil the visuals of a zone). Total biscuit seems quite pleased with the sense of exploration and wanderlust that the game offers.
Im confused on how this will work. I mean, what the hell happens when you go back to that area? or an area close to it? Seems like a very weird system if its not some zone event where you have a certain amount of time to run away from it and the person farthest away at the end 'wins'
Or maybe im just missing something
It's 580mb, only 100 of which are new files, the rest are older files being overwritten.
Well it shouldn't matter where you go after you plant the flag, only where the flag was planted in relation to where others have planted theirs.Im confused on how this will work. Hopefully some optimizations of some sort.

I think a cooler idea would be if you got a flag and planted it anywhere in the world. The longer it takes someone to find it, the better reward you got. If no one finds it in [insert time period here], it resets and you gain the maximum reward. Of course there is a reward for the person/guild that finds the flag.
Of course AN would have to limit flags so that there's not thousands of flags around the world (maybe one per guild or something, make it a guild flag).
