I thought it had something to do with WvW?I'm expecting a first glimpse of Orr. And I mean 'glimpse'.
Good news! There's going to be a ton of them, we've known for sometime there will be about 30 or so Activities in at launch. These aren't things that will be shoved off post-launch or anything as ANet sees them as part of the city design. They said like everything else they don't talk about something unless they're absolutely sure they can do it and/or it's ready to be shown.
Are we SURE these will be AT LAUNCH?
Alright. Because I was thinking about, you brought up the bar brawl, for example Funcom had something like that planned for Age of Conan, and I'm not sure that made it in at launch. Is there any risk that something similar would happen to the activities? Or is it an integral part of the game experience in itself?
John: These are getting built into the game itself, they will be there at launch. They are not something that we will tack on later, they are part of the cities.
Eric Flannum: One of the things I can say is that we tend to, you know, we were pretty tight-lipped about the game for a long time and we tend not to talk about things unless they are actually in the game. So when we talk about activities, like when we talk about the bar brawl, or the shooting gallery, because they are actually in the game you can go in and experience them right now. And so there is actually very little chance that most things we talk about are not going to make it into the game just because we run out of time or anything like that. Because, as I said, we tend not to talk about things unless we're very, very certain that we can do them. Certain as in they are in already.
Right. How many of these activities do you have planned?
John: About 30-ish, I believe is what we're looking at.
Been playing mmo´s for years, been using webmail for even longer, almost as long as i´ve been buying shit from ebay or amazon... all of it with a simple login and password and never been hacked.

Personally, I wouldnt do this since you need massive amounts of funds, other people backing you up, and seems rather dangerous
Really? Everything is wrong with this post.
They mention something I actually noticed; your character is an unambiguous hero. I wonder if anyone is bothered by this? I always play my characters as heroes (that is, I make the moral choices I believe to be correct), so this is not only not a problem for me in the least, but a rather cool thing (as opposed to WoW where your character is an amoral figure that will do whatever is asked of him/her as long as it gives exp and gold). Guild Wars 2 made me feel like a hero while I was playing, when I was rescuing people from attacks or helping them otherwise, etc. I really didn't have that feeling with WoW, or any MMO.
I think part of that feeling comes from the event/heart system. In other MMOs, you're given a laundry list of things to do, and you then check them one by one, often going for the one that gives the best reward first. Here, stuff happens and you have to react quickly; you don't have time to ponder whether to help or not. And helping people out always pays out, in ways that feel more real than just money and an item. The fact that you earn and spend karma instead of money, and that heart NPCs actually send you a letter with their gratitude and some coin, are small details that make it all the more convincing.
I know the accomplishers, metagamers and minmaxers out there will disagree or even have no clue what the heck I'm talking about; that's perfectly OK.![]()
Back in WoW I used to control the Glyph market in my server, using a few addons to mass-sell for reasonable prices, and manually tracking what glyphs sold more often and for more (we're talking dozens of copies each of dozens of glyph types). Buying outliers (the bit about buying those below market price then reselling at market price) is MMO economy 101, especially when you're moving most of the stock.
Without devoting more than half an hour a day, my GF and I made enough money in a couple of months to buy both a vendor-carrying mammoth and a motorcycle (about 35k gold all together, probably the biggest gold sinks in the game).
What I'm saying is that if you know the market price for the item you're buying, purchasing and reselling outliers is not only not dangerous but a very common practice, doubly so if you're selling the item yourself (you remove low-priced competitors + you get cheap stock for reselling).
Of course, GW2's market, being global, is probably much less vulnerable to artificial manipulation like this; his tactics seem to come mostly from non-global-market MMOs. In GW2, I'm assuming outliers will be bought out quick enough not to be a problem; if they can keep providing the stock at that price, of course, they stop being outliers and become the new market price.
I've been posting in the GW2 threads since the beginning for over a year now. And have written what I believe to be plenty of fair posts about the game. Not to mention doing plenty of detailed write-ups about the game mechanics, answering questions, helping players with HoM, and offering assistance with gaf stuff. I even started that quick GW1 gaf guild where I hopped in to help people with quests.Sure it is. Have fun and probably won't see you in game.
Any of you guys play in the beta with an i5-750? I'm thinking a GPU upgrade would be enough for this game (5850) but I might do a whole re-build if I can't get GW2 running at max @ 1080p off the i5-750.
He is actually doing something quite different from buying low and selling high. He is buying all the high, all of the product, then creating buy orders above his average cost. He then takes advantage of people who put in buy orders 1 or 2 above that cost, thinking that they can resell it for a bit more since the buy/sell ratio is so close
Well, that doesnt happen since that guy controls the market, sells to those people who are trying to make a quick buck, and then cancels all of his buy orders once he goes through his product and other people's buy orders.
It works because he is taking advantage of people trying to play the market, while people who dont wont buy it at that price and those people who wont buy it at that price are probably the ones who would have the item in their bank, but probably wont be able to take advantage of that inflated price to sell since they are the type of player who doesnt regularily check the market
Essentially,He isnt buying low and selling high. He is buying high and creating an even higher selling point to take advantage of people trying to 'play' the market for a quick bucket.
Like i said, that seems like it would take a massive amount of funds (which he seems to have), a great deal of knowledge and a lot of careful watching because he needs to get out at least somewhat quickly so that everyone doesnt start filling out his buy orders (or i guess he can cancel those pretty quickly once other people start creating a bunch of them. Just gotta make sure that he keeps it in long enough to keep the high buy order price going)
I haven't listened to the latest podcast but the Freelancer guy apparently made tons of money during the beta, enough to finance that march of the golems they have up on YouTube with money to spare.
Ah, sorry! Totally missed the point about him creating inflated buy orders. That doesn't seem like it'd work at all, though. His buy orders would be filled much faster than he expects, I'd wager, again on account of this being a global market. Then, not only is he out money (having bought above the market price), he'd also have to put more buy orders or abandon the scheme completely. In general, it doesn't seem like it would have any long-term effect in the market, less so (yet again) it being global.
What's more, he's leaving the auction cut out of all of his calculations. I think it's a 10% or so, so that's even more money lost (less gained if he succeeds).
I don't know, to me it just seems like a bunch of obvious truths mixed with wild guesses and theorycrafting with not much apparent solid ground. Eh, for all we know he might be using his videos to play the economy himself, i.e. making people buy high so that he can sell to them.![]()
I would wait until launch before making any upgrades. The first Guild Wars looked great on a ton of different rigs. I have a similar card to yours, but I am assuming the performance I am getting now doesn't reflect launch performance.
ps: gunbo you're new avatar is throwing me off. It's just too dainty for heated pvp discussions.

Plenty of other posters here can validate. So I'd say you are pretty off base. If you want to keep up the wrong mindset though, I can't stop you.
I might do the GPU upgrade either way since the 5850 is getting a little long in the tooth at this point. What kind of performance were you seeing in BWE3? I can't imagine it would change a whole lot between that build and launch.

I like it quite a bit, but would it actually have a white background in the game?
lol Yea, it does seem off on the gaming side. I should probably change it if I'm posting again here.ps: gunbo you're new avatar is throwing me off. It's just too dainty for heated pvp discussions.
Rewind in Forza is dumb.I understand you're a fan, I can see it in some of your posts back when Chelmo first posted about this game. I just believe you're awfully cynical about a vast majority of the things that have been mentioned by developers and such. Maybe that's just you, if you're the same gunbo from IGN that was pissed about the rewind function in Forza then I guess that IS just you ... so carry on, just an observation.
Rewind in Forza is dumb.
Anyway as I've said before, there is enough positivity in this thread where I don't have to add to it. I don't hate anything irrationally and focus on disagreements with the game design. It might seem that I'm trying to play the negative part in all the discussions but I'm not. I've given praise for detailed mechanics that I thought were well done. And I've criticized where I believe they were not well done.
Look, if people have a beef with my posting style then I'd just stop. I don't need to write this stuff out on the forum. So if more people feel the same way you do, then I have no qualms about letting the thread run its course. I actually haven't posted much here at all for quite awhile FYI.
Can the drama please cease? Enough. People are allowed to be as critical and/or as jizz-tastic as they like regarding the game. It isn't perfect, but it's good enough that people are likely to overlook what failings it does have out of sheer enthusiasm. Being critical isn't a sign of distaste, nor is being enthusiastic a sign of naivete or idiocy.
I like it quite a bit, but would it actually have a white background in the game?
It might have that bumpy red background that you are using since that said 'ingame backgound or something" If not, and we can pick whatever color, well, im not particularly tied to the white background. Only really cared about getting the GAF colors into the main design
Don't get me wrong: If you're able to put that on an item with a white background, it works enormously well. Just not sure how it looks on alternative backgrounds. All I'm saying.
Ah
Well, here it is with the possible 'standard' background

Bit less awesome, but I still like it the best (not biased at all)

So TOR is going F2P... i´m ever more convinced that the model Arenanet is using for GW2 is the perfect model for an mmo.
Don´t think ill ever pay for a mmo sub again, after TOR i think i´m done with that.
You do know that I have played quite a bit of GW2 right? It seems like you think I havn't played it...Either way, you seem to have extensive knowledge of the game mechanics and we'll probably end up fighting side by side come launch so I'm not trying to be a dick or anything ... was just wondering where your cynicism was coming from in general, as the positivity in the thread is based off of what we've seen, played, and experienced.
I like ANet's philosophy around MMOs and the business model - it's not necessarily that the F2P model is the "best" but rather it's that a game has to be built around the business model in question - for a game to have a subscription, it better offer things worthy of a subscription that a F2P game can't do. So far, no game that I have seen has offered more than what GW2 has and people have realized that the games that they are paying subscription fees for are not really pushing the genre forward enough to justify that monthly fee.
Caveat - I'm also not saying that GW2 is responsible for the rise in subscription based MMOs going F2P. That would be asinine.

For those that came in to gw1 late just for hom rewards: did you find it pretty slow going at first, trying to get all the tapestries and the like before you can even start dedicating things? Was there kind of a big period where suddenly you ended up with a lot of points? I just feel like I am not getting anywhere and just want to be assured that there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm only going for 11/50 for the aegis,
Haven't kept up with updates since like Jan or Feb. What's considered the best wiki or fansite to really read up on all the mechanics, skills, and classes of this game in preparation of the launch?

Hey check this out. I knew there were guild emblems on weapons/armor, but i didn't know there were different backpacks you could wear with your guild emblem on it in case you didn't want to put it on your armor/weapons.
