Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

The biggest help for me was GAF members helping out GAF members.

I won't sugar coat it....it will take a lot of time.

Beat the 3 campaigns (try to get Masters rank for all Cantha missions), beat Sorrow's Furnace, and that will put you at 8 HoM points. Accounts linked, any statue, and 5 statues (full display).

MOX is a free point.

If you make your secondary class a ranger in the beginning, charm a pet, and level it up with you to 20. That's another point.

Lastly, the Black Moa can be had along the Factions campaign. That Ranger secondary comes in use again.

There's 11 points!

Sounds simple enough in text, but it may take some work to build up your Hero team.

If someone else knows a simpler way, please chime in.

Watching Tales of Tyria for the money info.....even if I hate Freelancer.
I found a way around the ranger pet dedication having to level it up. Create PvP Ranger character, get free lv20 wolf, leave in menagerie, come back as your PvE char, talk to girl that spawns varieties for you, tame already lv20 pet and dedicate, done.

Thanks for the pointers, some of those I am already working towards and I only have Factions and EotN, so am not going to do the other campaigns. On my current todo list:

- Get a hell of a lot more Kurzick faction
- Finish Factions campaign
- Get tapestries so I can dedicate these damn minis
- Figure out how the heck to find someone selling some Cloth of the Brotherhood so I can dedicate heroes (I don't have the trilogy, so MOX is out)

I mean really, that should get me to 11...

Well I just sold that birthday present, so once I finish off the bits I need to do for these two points for 30 HoM, I'll offer up some of my goodies to gaffers.

There are quite a few people selling CotB in Eye of the North, District 1. Usually around 5k a piece.

That's a nifty trick to get the 20 pet! :)

So I'm thinking about picking up a Logitech G600 since Newegg has them for 15% off right now. Did anyone play the previous betas with it or a Razer Naga? Do you think it's worth picking one up for this game?

Personally, I would never pick up anything Razer. Everything I have purchased from them has fallen apart (Megalodon), or had terrible drivers (several mice....I'm a sucker for giving companies second chances...and third, and fourths, and even fifths). I won't make that mistake again.

Echoing your statement here, have had nothing but bad luck with Razer.

I too would like to try a G600 with GW2, seems like a safe bet.

I'm so glad you posted that. I started Guild Wars for the first time last week, having a lot of fun with it. I just got to level 10 with my warrior/ranger, and am so ready to get the 2 pet skills off my bar to clear room for more damage/utility skills. Originally I was going for some HoM points, but I'm having fun just playing the game so I don't think I will worry about any of that until I beat the campaigns.

I hate to get charity, but I'd be happy with anything really. I was 2 iron ingots short of some new armor last night when I got to Yak's Bend and couldn't even get anyone in zone to sell me some. :( I ran around and got some salvage though, too bad I picked the gladiator set because I'm showing way too much skin now as a male. I miss my fuzzy charr gear.

I've had my Naga for over 2 years now without any issues other than occasionally the middle mouse double clicks when I single click.

As for GW2 and gaming in general I really couldn't live without it. I bind my weapon swap to middle mouse click and 6-0 to the 1-5.

I hated my razer stuff too >.<

Personally I avoid anything from a 'gamer' company.

Logitech, microsoft, thats about it keyboar/mouse wise.

Still rocking an mx518

Where is the 15% off on the G600? I'm not seeing it.

As for charity, I do have some materials and doubles of mini pets. I have a couple of birthday presents due in about a month's time as well. I've had this game so long that my pvp-only characters get birthday presents.

Quick question in regards to names, I saw that names carry over from Guild Wars into GW2. Well I tried claiming some names last night, but they were already taken. The thing is though, I used these names in BWE3. So does the carry-over not happen until (early)launch? That kind of confused me.

Right. Someone who has the names in GW1 will have rights to those names in GW2 for a set amount of time.

The carry over thing hasn't happened yet. It's something they said they would explain how to perform sometime before launch but we haven't seen anything further yet.

Don't know how far you have gotten on the points yet, but if you only have Factions and EotN and want to reach 11/30, I would personally go for these points:

Fellowship
: 5 points
Any hero statue
Any pet statue
Any Rare Pet Statue
5 Companion Statues (Full Display)

Valor 2 points
Any Weapon Statue
Destroyer Weapon Statue

Resilience 2 points
Kurzick or Luxon Armor Statue
Any Armor Statue

Devotion 5 points
Any Miniature Statue
Rare Miniature Statue
20 Miniature Statues
Unique Miniature Statue (uncertain about this one since I think you need to buy a green mini, and that might be expensive)

Honor 8 points
Any Statue
Accounts Linked
5 Statues (Full Display): (Eternal Conqueror of the Deep, Eternal Conqueror of Urgoz's Warren, Eternal Protector of Cantha, Eternal Hero of Cantha, Eternal Guardian of Tyria)

22 points in total if you do all of them. If 11 points is your goal I would say drop the following accomplishments:
5 Statues (Cantha in Hard Mode can be incredibly unforgiving, especially the timed bonus objectives)

If you tied your GW1 account to GW2, and you logged in sometime this year before today, then during the headstart and immediately at launch those names will be locked out for all players but you. After that grace period ends (and we've heard it may be as soon as a day or two after launch) those names go back into the hopper for anyone to take.

Well that sucks, the names I wanted to reserve were taken. I wonder if they will be forever tied up or possibly released if the original person who has them claimed doesn't create a character with that name after a certain time.

Edit: oooo question answered, thanks

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll go ahead and order the G600. I played the previous betas, and never really could find a comfortable setup, so hopefully it will help.

Where is the 15% off on the G600? I'm not seeing it.

You need to use the coupon EMCNCHD235 to get 15% off. I think it works for all their mice too, not just the G600. It expires on 8/1 though.

Right now to add insult to injury, all of the new razer mice use their "synapse" software. It stores all of your profiles, keybinds, settings, etc online. So you literally need to log into some online server to use your profiles, basically DRM. To top it all off, the software is buggy as hell.

The g600 is great, build quality wise, the logitech software is solid as well. The problem I had with it was it's shape. It's extremely flat and wide. Basically a palm-grip only mouse. The placement of the 'shift' button forces you to pick up the mouse with just your pinky and thumb, which will take some getting used to. It's also a bit heavier than the naga.

I absolutely love my G700. IMO, can't go wrong with Logitech mice.

On the subject of hardware, anyone have a good recommendation for a headset with mic? I'm looking at the Steelseries Siberia v2.

I've got to agree. The g700 is a fantastic mouse. All the buttons are useable (13 programmable). Built like a tank and imo it's way more comfortable. It's a real winner.

I'm looking for a new mouse as well. I have a feeling high level play is going to pretty much require one. Keybinding and WASD movement when movement and attacking is done at the same time gets a bit hectic. I'd rather have mouse buttons for attacks.

High level play in any mmo has never really used those gimmicky side mouse buttons. You'd be surprised how capable 5 fingers are vs. one thumb, they aren't really a benefit.

I think the two side ones on my MX518 are pretty useful. I guess I could see playing that way primarily, but I can't imagine it actually offers you much of an advantage outside of having a lot more keybind space. In GW2 keybind space is a non-issue, though.

I love the thumb buttons on my MX518. I use one of them for push to talk so I really only get one extra button though.

This thread is depressing. It is no fun with no new updates, and no BETA/Stress Test/Release!

Im listening to tales of Tyria podcast. Its quite good. I like the host and freelancer. kayee or whoever is kinda annoying but she doesnt seem to talk much

Oh, and prospective mouse buying GAF, check out a controller. Its seriously awesome! Well, would be completely awesome if ground targeting was easier

You have 8 skills, and most are on 8++ second cooldowns. Your timing isn't going to be hampered by your keyboard bindings. Just get a comfortable mouse.

Other MMOs don't have cast while moving, dodging and such an emphasis on movement. Constant movement will matter, and that means WASD + keybinds at the same time. I'd rather WASD + Mouse Buttons.

Movement is probably the single most important element in any high level MMO gameplay in the past decade, and the primary force behind people learning how to keybind in this genre to begin with. It's always been WASD + keybinds at the same time. Or ESDF, I guess.

Personally, I found it pretty awkward to keep moving in combat while hitting my skills on their default keybinds. I changed 7-0 to be TGQA (I use ESDF), but I enjoyed the combat a lot more when I had a hand free for the most part to really focus on movement.

I use a Logitech G700, but I haven't got a perfect setup for it. I'd have an easier time with the G600, but I'm not going to buy a new mouse when mine still works. What I used in the last BWE was:

Four thumb buttons: Skills 2, 3, 4, 5
Three buttons on the left of the left click: Utility skills (7, 8, 9)

I left skill 1 at it's default keyboard keybind and basically just used it to initiate combat while it was on auto attack. Skill 6, my heal, was left at the default keyboard keybind too. I was going to put my elite on middle mouse click, but I'm not too sure. I never got to 30 in BWE3 and didn't play sPvP, so I couldn't test how it would work.

I'd like to put my elite at 6 and heal on middle mouse, but the numbers disappear under the icons on the skillbar when you change the main keybind. That's a problem because the game uses those numbers for range indication. They turn red when you're out of range. Unless they fix that, I'm probably going to have to go into the Logitech software and create a separate GW2 profile that re-defines a bunch of keys. I'll probably end up doing that anyway since I want F1-F4 to be on my scroll wheel (F1/F2 Scroll up/down and F3/F4 tilt wheel left/right). I'll have to rebind my camera to Alt+mouse wheel.

I submitted feedback to ANet to let use re-bind the mouse wheel with and without modifiers, but who knows. The few threads I saw on the beta forums asking for it only got a couple replies.

I don't know how to explain it, but it's not the same. GW2 demanded fluidity to a higher extent than other MMOs.

Plus, decades of gaming has hardwired my brain for left hand movement and right hand input. Everything on the left hand will never not feel awkward.

Hey randomly back on the topic of name reservation, would anyone be willing to try holding a name for me? I never wound up buying the original, and it's not a name I will need to use right away anyway, so I'm willing to wait a few days or whatever after release to try and get it. PM me if you want to at least check for me.

I still dont know what my name is going to be. Ill probably make up something when I create my character and just roll with it. I imagine that it will be bad

Never bought GW1 either so i cant help ya out

You'd be surprised how capable 5 fingers are vs. one thumb, they aren't really a benefit.

What about 5 fingers AND one thumb? It's not like you can't use both the keys on your left and all of the buttons on your mouse. I think that's the whole point.

I actually use a nostromo and have the regular keys for my fingers as I would with a normal keyboard, but I also use my thumb on the dpad which means my thumb alone is 4 buttons to itself. Then you add all the mouse buttons. It sounds like a lot, but it's just muscle memory.

I would feel crippled without them at this point.

Don't get me wrong, I understand what you're saying. It's not like that kind of hardware is necessary, but I have a hard time saying you're better not having it. Saying it's not a benefit is a bit of a stretch. Provided you can actually use the tools I guess.

I love my Razer DeathAdder, two big side buttons.

With it i go:

Movement: QWEASD
Skills: 1,2,3,4,5
Utility: ZXC
Heal: Mouse5
Elite: Mouse4

Also, the Races and profession section in the new website are pretty.

I'm actually following this route a bit more, which is fairly close to what you have here.

http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=...AA&todo=AAAAAAAQCGCAAAAAAABAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEAA

That said, if I get where I want to be early enough before release (because God knows I won't be touching GW1 again after 2 is out), I might try for a few more goodies, so will keep these in mind, thanks!

3rd here - Razer products for me have been sub par in build quality, performance and software.

I haven't used the G600 since its far too tiny. Definitely requires a claw or fingertip grip for me.

I use a G500 and love it. You wont need all those buttons for GW2 on a 600 IMO. My left hand handles 1-5, F1, jump, move, dodge, etc. G500 3 thumb buttons handle 7-9, click wheel is 6 for the heal, mod click wheel is elite skill and mod thumb buttons handle F2-F4.

Left hand is a G13 - I only mapped about 10 keys for GW2 to it in a nice tight cluster unlike all 22 for some major finger yoga with other MMOs.

Just my playstyle of course. I prefer a large-ish mouse opposed to the tiny Razer or Logitech MMO mice. I just can't claw or finger grip - my hand cramps up too bad when I had a Naga.
