Darksiders 2 new info! [one month away from release]

The German reviewer says that the occasional screen tearing or blurred texture does not deter from an awesome game experience.

For some reason I think the German video is taken from the PC version.

Not impossible but unlikely, coming from a console magazine.

It better not have tearing after a dev has gone on record itt saying that both console versions are v-synced.

I'll never buy a vigil product if it turns out they were lying.

I think I remember they gave a broll file for reviewing purpouses, so it's not necessarily related to what they played. Could be captures, but I don't think it was allowed.

That aside, I think there's a caveat that must be given: the first PS3 darksiders, in review state, had the same slight tearing and minor framerate problems a few weeks from launch. It ended up being pretty good on PS3 at launch. While reviewing, as always I reported on what I saw to the best of my capabilities, but also kept in mind this and that the code was VERY early. Far more earlier than DS1 we played at the time.

You'd be surprised to see that some reviewers do not actually understand the meaning of "tearing" and are applying it for some other visual artifcats (saw that with diformed textures in a french review).

Now on the other hand, a game on console can have a "selective" Vsync, that it would drop if the fps gap between two frames makes it dip below the reasonnable average, that could generate occasionnal tearing without having a full game rigged with tearing everywhere.

I can't deal with screen tearing and 10-30 FPS on games. That's why I've converted to the master race. So happy Vigil is releasing the PC version alongside the console version. Finally put in my preorder for the digital version on THQs webiste. It seemed to have the best preorder deal out o anyone else.

I have just contacted the owner of one local Serbian PC gaming site [for which I have written over 250 daily news/feature articles over the past year or so] in a hope of securing PC review copy of the game.

Hopefully he will be able to dig something up, but chances are low [our local distributors really don't give a shit for websites that are not uber popular].

what is this app and where can i get it?

I think it's on IOS only, darksiders soul harvest, basically you just log in and find yourself on a map(your local google map) then every 10 minutes you just harvest souls around you. It's pretty simple but if you collect enough you unlock some backgrounds, a game guide, a free comic and the final prize is a unique hammer for the game. Right now the community is working to unlock the final prize.

The rewards system for progressing in Darksiders 1 is definitely one of the best in any game, if not the best IMO. Dark Souls, Shadow Complex is also up there. I haven't played a Zelda game for awhile, but I assume that they are somewhat similar in design.

Throughout the game, you got several new basic mechanics that improved how you interacted with the world and made you more powerful -- it was one of the VERY few systems that made me consider and respect how incredible the incentives are.
Well, up until you got the teleport mechanic or whatever it is -- it seems a lot of people didn't like that.

However, I hope Darksiders 2 was designed with a similar system in mind.

My local iTunes store does not have the app. I was disappointed, I want all the loot I can get in this game.

Please allow me to eat crow since I started playing the original Darksiders again last night and I'm having an absolute blast this time around compared to when I tried it two years ago. Different eyes and mindset this time around I guess.

I really liked teleport, but I was bummerd it could be only used in puzzle sequences. I would have loved to use portals in combat environments. :D Not a single game [that I know of] does that.

I don't like this tearing talk. Somebody MAYBE doesn't actually understand what tearing is?

Anyone who saw original x360 version of Darksiders KNOWS what tearing is. Look few seconds of this part of german review, and you will notice it also.

Not in a combat environment where enemies are moving.
Yeah, I was just joking with that Portal reference anyhow.

I personally perceived the teleportation device in the first Darksiders as any other puzzle solving mechaning. I don't really understand people who complained about it.

The new game has similar devices and gadgetry in place for puzzle solving and traversal. It's too bad that I've been spoiled to what some of those are already.

It's been awhile since I played it, but I think the issue with that mechanic was that it was convoluted compared to the other mechanics and slowed the pace down a lot. If it wasn't context sensitive, it probably would have been awesome.

I'd also love more games with more original mechanics that aren't context sensitive -- like, grappling hooks, rope, and such things. There's such potential for fun, awesome emergent gameplay with that.

It's quite surprising that there aren't any games that take advantage of rope mechanics and physics -- climbing scenarios, or anything involving rope like things are always some sort of QTE.

Zen Bound II, while a mini-game type of game, is the only game I've come across that really takes advantage of the possibilities of rope dynamics -- if you are interested in unique gameplay mechanics, you should definitely check it out. It's quite small in scope, but it shows that rope dynamics are possible.

i am mega bummed, my phone broke so i had to cancel my preorder of this, luckily my bro buys this but i feel bad about not buying my own copy cause i really want to see darksiders 3 on next gen.

Who needs a phone? You'd want to shut it down to play Darksiders 2 anyway.

The Wii U version should AT LEAST run better, right?
WiiU is not the second coming of Jesus. It's just a console.

And the games on that are as good as the developers can make them. If the screen tearing problem is inherent to the game engine, it will be present all over.

Though PCs with their mad powerhouse components can minimize the effect.

To summarize: who knows.

That was terrible, I don't think he wants or likes that.
I actually didn't mind it. It was a bit too automatic, but not quite as automatic as something like Uncharted or Assassin's Creed. It was a nicely relaxing game, it's nice to have those sometimes.

"As this was not live gameplay based on direct feeds from the console itself, we can't confirm the provenance of the footage and in the case of Mass Effect 3 we suspect that the PC version was being used."

*sigh*

Well, good news is, the tearing was fixed in the first Darksiders, nothing says it can't be in 2.

The PS3 version didn't have tearing, though, let's hope it's the same here.

Did anyone save that video of the first 20 minutes? I just wanted to hear the music when the boss battle at the end begun.

I don't think they will let this happen again, I mean the tearing of the 360 version of the first was fixed what maybe a week after launch, I remember because I stopped playing it because of that.

The tearing and the unlocked frame-rate in the first game was horrible, I also stopped playing and waited for the patch to come out.

Now about the tearing in DS2, at this point the whole thing "no it hasn't" "yes it has" got kinda ridiculous..I guess I'll simply wait for impressions on the 360 version from US Gaf who will get the game one week earlier and then react accordingly - if the 360 version has for some reason a problem with tearing I'll probably cancel the 360 pre-order and instead get the PS3 version if it's any better.

I'll say that the 20 minute intro footage looked way way way better than the footage from that review. It could be the capture equipment, or maybe pc version IS that much better

I have to buy the PS3 version because thats the console I have but I played the first on the 360 and yeah it was bad.

I hope this one has no tearing in the PS3 like the first.
