Rare and/or expensive games you desperately want, but just can't get!

Mega Man X3 for SNES. I will not pay more than $100 for this, and eBay has not been kind to me.

I have the Mega Man X Collection on PS2, but it uses the PS1 version for a base on X3, and the remixed music just irks me.

Earthbound is what I want to own most.

I have a copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy, suckas. But sadly it is without a slip cover, it bothers me a lot. There's actually a copy at the GameStop near my house, I wonder if they'll just give me the slip cover from it.

Well, this kind of does and kind of doesn't fit with this topic, but, there's this:

Beyond Shadowgate for the TurboDuo. Since, I have a rather large Shadowgate obsession.

I did buy the game like 6 years or so ago, for like $120, figuring I couldn't just wait around to get both the game and the system at the same time, and I'd just get the game while I could, and get the system later. Just haven't actually gotten the system to go along with it to play it yet.

Had my eye on one of these for a few months now:

I can't bring myself to order one online, but if I stumbled on one in Nipponbashi in great shape, that would be the end of that.

I honestly haven't checked out how rare it is, but apparently there's a spiritual successor to Pocky and Rocky on the Wii that I've never seen at stores, and am always looking for.

It got bad reviews, but still. Pocky and Rocky spiritual successor.

Wiki'd it, and it's called Heavenly Guardian in English (I'm looking for the Japanese version).

I've been after Bully SE 360 for a while, but it's really pricey, and rare as hens teeth. I've just noticed its on GoD for £14.99. Rockin'.

There's a few AES games I wanted there were outside my price range. I really wanted a copy of Garou, Twinkle Star Sprites, and Waku Waku 7.

Off the top of my head

Kirby's Dream Land 3 (SNES)
Hagane (SNES)
Sparkster (SNES)
Castlevania: Dracula X (SNES)
Mega Man 7 (SNES)
Sutte Hakkun (SFC)
Do Re Mi Fantasy (SFC)
F-Zero X Expansion Kit (64DD)
Kid Icarus of Myths and Monsters (GB)
Shantae (GBC)
All the GB Mega Man after 2

Talking about complete in box copies. All of those are way out of my price range.

Dragon Force for Saturn is probably the only game I really want to play but just don't want to spend the cash, Saturn Bomberman would be nice also.

Would be nice to own a physical copy of Valkyrie Profile too.

Don't think NxC is that rare but since it never saw a U.S. release I was going to pay the cost of importing it plus a mod chip. Ended up running on an emulator when they finished the English patch. Glad I didn't waste the money.

There aren't any rare games that I want to purchase, but there have been a few that I regret not buying or not keeping.

Don't want to remind myself or talk about it. Makes me too sad. :(

So expensive and super hard to find. There's only one sitting on eBay right now for ~$450 USD. There are reproductions out there for cheaper, but they're of the European release or unreleased US version (both of which have worse quality music).

Been wanting a copy of this for a while now, but it's impossible to find for less than, like, ¥9000 -used-.
Thinking about it for this thread pushed me over the edge and I ended up buying this instead:

Cost me slightly less, and I get a free raidou! :P

Panzer Dragoon Saga in mint condition is way out of my price range.

This game to this day is the one purchase I am always glad I went through with. Saturn was on its way out and as a kid I was able to get my grandparents to lend me the money and drive me 2 hours to the last Toys R Us that had one, 49.99 back in the day.

Only a 1000 of these in the wild and mostly hard to get. Sometimes costs up to $1000.

Really??
I'm not sure if it was ever sold separately but I got a used copy of the "NICO" DVD for ~$9 back when I lived in Japan.

Had my eye on one of these for a few months now:

I can't bring myself to order one online, but if I stumbled on one in Nipponbashi in great shape, that would be the end of that.

I'm still cursing myself for passing on one I saw in rural Japan for ~$50 CIB. :(
It was right before TGS and I was saving money for the inevitable Akihabara trip, and sure enough it was long gone when I went back for it.

I guess my "rare/unobtainable game" is Zelda's Adventure for CD-I:

I'm pretty sure the game is crap, but it's the only Zelda game I don't own and I'd really like to track down a copy someday.

nemo-177190-1.jpeg

I'd just like to play it once.

OMG, what in the world is this??

is it a little nemo arcade remake of the NES game or another game all together? that looks like the capcom game engine of the early 1990's that was so cutting edge back then.

Suikoden 2. Not super rare, but too expensive for me. I once owned the game too and sold it for like $10 when I was 13 or 14 years old...

I want to get Skyrim, after playing the shit out of my brother's copy, I think Bethesda earned some monies from me. I waiting for another steam deal with discounted Dawnguard too.

I don't think Skyrim counts as a rare or expensive videogame? (Or were you joking? :<)

I came to say Metroid Prime Trilogy but that's already been said in the OP. :(

Honestly what bugs me about video game "collectors" is how they drive the prices so high. I usually just want to play the game yet if I miss out it could cost 3x as much. Burning Rangers, I just wanted to play the damn game but the cost was too high.

You can usually find these on ebay for 30-60 I think, not new but yeah. Not a hugely hard item to track down.

I'm a collector, but I also play the games I collect usually. I picked up burning rangers and intend to play through it as i've always wanted to, not all collectors just make a monument, but I get what you're saying and unfortunately, it only seems to get worse as time goes on, less become available.

You assume collectors don't play the games. Now I understand the few that do keep sealed games but on the whole people are buying to play them and it's the market that dictates the price based on desirability and availability.

Collectors are not some kind of gaming Illuminati fixing prices of games for their own gain.

F-zero_x_exp_box.JPG

F-Zero X Expansion for 64DD. I'm from europe and I'd have to get a japanese N64, a 64DD, a japanese F-Zero X and F-Zero X Expansion which alltogether costs up to a thousand dollars. For two new cups... It's hard to justify really and my girlfriend would kill me if I wasted that amount of money on a few more levels for a game I already own, but it's really a thing I'd buy in a heartbeat if I was sure I wouldn't have to worry about money all too much.

i almost got sad to not see this one mentioned until this post. my mind has been saved from sadness and raging (lol)

if you look at it this way, it seems way better:
you're actually getting infinite tracks thanks to the track editor and the hundreds of custom tracks floating around websites with F-Zero X EK-related stuff. only your imagination is the limit in this one.

for me, it is the most played game in my life so far. i sunk over 2000 hours in this thing between time attack, GP and custom tracks back in 2005-2007 after getting it. i still play it sometimes and make tracks ocasionally.

i see that europe is a bigger hurdle due to needing more stuff than usual (i'm in America so i only needed the 64DD, JP FZX and the EK).

I have this:

gf9Zx.jpg

i got super lucky with this. got it for $50 brand new back in 2008 from play-asia because i had nothing else to buy at the time and i liked to get all the revisions. surprised to see how much it goes for these days. i don't want to sell it because i don't have any other GBMs.

with the MP Trilogy, i got a second copy for $30, never opened it and sold it for $70 last year. i bet i could have got even more out of it lol. i'm not selling my main copy though...

Getting this out of the way:

Having one of these in the basement would be too damn cool. Pity I'm still in university and am not nearly good enough at GX to unlock the AX tracks.

even though i can run circles against the CPU in GX and get the tracks easily in a fresh file, i'd still like to own one of these to be able to claim i own every F-Zero game ever made physically (not getting the BS Satellaview one since that one isn't a physical cart)

They actually sell used copies of metroid prime trilogy for 50 or under at gamestop and such, if people really want it, you can get it close to original retail even if its not brand new, could be worse.

The thing about The World Ends With You is that it's like $26 with shipping. And that really should be low enough for me to just buy the darn thing. But I just...can't...AGHH I might do it tomorrow

People in this topic are talking about games that cost hundreds, and sometimes thousands, and you think 26 is out of reach? Not trying to be an ass but man lol, I wish that was all I had to spend to pick up some of these pieces.

Let me just say I didn't mean to slight EVERY collector. Just yea, usually, in my experience, it's the bad ones that screw it up.

I understand the whole thing about like really retro games and things like that. This just came out last console generation/kinda recent ya know? So it's a little bit of a different game (ahh pun)

EDIT: also! Mad props for the Conker avatar haha great game

it's annoying for sure though, as someone who is probably collecting anywhere from 50-100 games on each various platform, games like megaman X3 can range over 400 dollars for a complete copy of it, and stuff like earthbound.. it's not unusual to go over 800.

It's a real pain in the ass but what can you do, i've kicked up my collecting recently to try and get it over with, but i've about hit my spending cap for the year already, i'm hoping to finish my US saturn and n64 collections and possibly the virtual boy with the remaining funds I have set for collecting.

Snes though, is a nightmare to collect for.

Yeah I get that logic, sometimes I say a game on n64 is 'rare' when in reality it means I have to pay the same price it launched at back in the day or a bit less, and when trying to buy so much it can add up regardless of what definition you like to use. Still, the sega saturn and snes are definitely the big punches to the gut for me so far in my mission to collect my childhood artifacts, and local mom and pop shops are using ebay prices to set their own. I hear the neo geo is the worst but I have no nostalgia for that thankfully.
