Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Gosh I hate waiting. Can't even really make builds knowing stuff is going to change before release. Think I've watched every BWE3 PvP video on Youtube for the classes I want to play.

I know the feeling =( I can't find anymore videos I haven't seen from BWE3, way too long of a wait.

I've never met a girl IRL that plays games. One of my exes played a bit, but that was only because I played.

Going to pre-order the game now. I am somewhat glad that I didnt have a chance to play GW2 during the beta phase since I'm already having a hard time waiting for it, if I'd played it I assume it would be unbearable. I also went on and made an account on the gaf guild site :)

I've decided that I'm going to start off as a Norn, but I still have no clue what profession I'm going to start as.

Gaf guild site? Where? :o

Just ordered this in preparation for GW2. My son (10 years old, and will be playing GW2 w me) is sporting an ANCIENT 17" 1024x1024 monitor. Decided I wanted something bigger/better, so got this and giving him my 23" Acer.

Can't wait to get it on Tuesday!!!!!!!

Looks sweet. ASUS is definitely my go-to for monitors anymore; still using my 22" 1080p ASUS I bought a few years ago.

My wife plays. In fact, as far as MMOs go, she's played more than I have in terms of both games and actual hours. Lots of SNES RPGs and such growing up too.

They're out there, they're just hiding from dudebros who hit on them.

1 inch monitor?!

It's not the size of the monitor that matters, it's the... oh wait, it is the size.

Welp, you just sold me. Pre-ordered.

I swear ArenaNet should pay me. :P
To be fair, I've introduced so many people to WoW (thanks to multiple cascading effects), that I think if Blizzard gave me even 10% of the money they're making from them, I could buy a couple of new computers. >_>

LOL, crap. Stupid beer! Corrected. Thanks!

I am debating whether or not to lose respect for you now. Friends don't let friends ... bah, it's in the past. I forgive you!

Tell me about it. When we got WotLK, my GF dinged 80 before I did...

Yep, she usually doesn't let out she's a girl, too much unwanted attention. She finds it particularly funny that everyone assumes she's a male (I admit I do that too for anyone I meet online), when she helps someone out and she gets the Spanish equivalent of "thanks man" or "thanks a lot, dude". Although she's given away involuntarily sometimes, especially because Spanish, adjectives have a gender, so you can't tell you're "tired" or anything else without giving it away.

That sucks. I just finished a summer course where one girl was the odd person out of the entire class because she doesn't play games.

I haven't met many gamers in general. My roommate and a couple of my friends are all gamers, but that's 7 out of the 1000's of people I know.

MOST people I know don't play or like games.

Yeah, pretty much every girl I've ever dated has hated video games (except for the one aforementioned gf). I've only ever met one nerdy girl, like, ever. Most girls I meet have no interest in nerdy things.

I dunno, maybe I've had particularly bad luck. Most of my friends in high school, college, and my jobs don't play or like games. In fact, most people I know think video games are exceedingly dumb.

Sucks to be them, then. If it's important, your choice in significant others should be based on a shared interest. Don't settle for somebody that doesn't at least get what you're into, and avoid anyone who is actively against it.

I couldn't imagine dating, let alone marrying someone who wasn't at least a little bit interested in my hobbies. How boring would it be if you sat in different rooms doing different things all the time?

GW2GAF is now the Dating Advice thread.

this is every relationship I've ever been in in a nutshell.

I don't think I've shared a single interest with any girl I've dated, except for that one gf that liked Simpsons.

My best friend has pretty much quit gaming (and canceled his preorder of GW2) because his wife doesn't like him gaming.

I'll be honest. In real life, I've probably met 5 people I share interests with who aren't totally socially inept.

I bought that monitor a couple months back and its amazing good buy.

So are the maps pretty big in this game? Is there a good amount of rewarding exploration?

Huge maps, and exploration is the name of the game. You'll level faster by exploring and engaging in events than you will by grinding enemies.

Dudebro!
Whenever my gaming habit pops up my abs becomes non-important... It's an hobby jeez Why should i be' ashemed of gaming ;_;

Not ashamed but I'm not gonna brag about my extensive comics knowledge and amount of time I spent in WoW etc etc
In culture here it is looked down far more then in the west so I avoid it, even with guys until you know each other well.

Oh and out of those 2 girls I met, 1 played wow 24/7 and looked like a zombie, other was hm huge.

Ugh, that's the worst. Relationships are all about give and take, but that's some ugly business there. I've decreased how much I game since I've gotten married, but that's just because I haven't had much disposable income and there hasn't been a ton of games that appeal to me. I expect that to change when GW2 comes out, but since we're both playing together it's not a problem.

I would say the maps are fairly large. Maybe not the biggest in any MMO ever, but they're certainly larger than your average World of Warcraft zone.

In terms of exploration though? There's an AMAZING amount of exploration going on, and plenty of rewards for it. Most of the Dynamic Events (GW2's replacement for questing) are scattered across the map, so going off the beaten path can lead you on some interesting adventures (it's been said in this thread and elsewhere that people just following the points on their map are missing most of the game's content).

You also get a ton of Karma / Experience / Loot for just finding all of the Points of Interest, Skill Challenges, Renown Hearts and Vistas.

Vistas themselves are quite cool, as they're short little cinematics that show off the terrain and are usually at the end of a short jumping puzzle.

There's also lots of little surprises tucked into places that otherwise have nothing there. GAFers have been finding a lot of Jumping Puzzles that usually appear to be nothing more than a crack in the wall or a heap of junk.

People have even datamined an item called an "Explorer's Flag" that has a leader board associated with it. The objective is to place your flag somewhere that is as far as possible from any other player's flag.

Oh, and treasure maps to find goodies too.

So yeah, the one thing GW2 has in spades is exploration.

Great to hear!!!

Why is it that every necro video I try to find is based around sPvP? I want to see some PvE videos to see how they are in that manner. I've seen a couple of WvW ones, which were great, but still doesn't show how the necro class is in PvE.

TLDR: QQ

Might want to debate about taking it back and grabbint one of these.

Man, I'm gonna have to buy this now. Sounds awesome.

Probably because Necros are damned good in sPVP. It's mostly one build, but they are one of the biggest pains in the ass to fight.

Have you checked Necrobator?

I have not, but I will now! Thanks!

Appreciate it. I refuse to buy a monitor without anti-glare......only for the fact that it is desperately needed in the room my PC is in. Looks like a great monitor!

In my defense, the original conversions happened even before WoW was released (during beta). But yeah, sometimes one feels as if one was spreading the vampire curse. In later years, in fact, I meet people that haven't played WoW and think "This person would love WoW... but I want them to keep having a life.". I'm particularly worried about those that don't have the "MMO antibodies". I got a friend of mine into GW2 and he never played WoW... he's gotten a bit of a heavy liking to GW2, and I'm slightly worried about him... :)

I dunno, maybe I've had particularly bad luck. Most of my friends in high school, college, and my jobs don't play or like games. In fact, most people I know think video games are exceedingly dumb.

Why no try this?

It looks quite promising for those of you in zones with low geek population density. I admit I don't know anyone who has tried it, has anyone? Opinions?

Yeah, exactly this. There seems to be this notion that opposites attract and that dating a person who has very different interests will enrich you, but I think that, while it's true that's good to share new interests with each other (my GF loves musicals, for example), a good deal of common ground is essential for day-to-day living, or you'll just run out of stuff to do together.

I expect that to change when GW2 comes out, but since we're both playing together it's not a problem.

Yeah, playing an MMO with your significant other is one of the best gaming experiences known to the human race. :)

I'm in NYC, so meeting nerdy girls isn't hard. I have a hard time finding any that I'm compatible with. For me, most of my prospects have been interracial dating with girls that have had hang ups with their families. I should get back to looking, with NY Comic-con coming up, and PAX East next year.

Proven = Millionaire of the year for 2013 with his newly setup online match-up service for gamers?

My fiancee doesn't play games - we have shared interests, but not games. I'll usually go in, yes, a different room, and play games every so often. It's really not a big deal.

I think the more important thing is whether or not your SO respects your interests. I could never be with someone who rolls their eyes when I buy a new game or play a game. That just wouldn't work.

This. My wife (when she was my fiancee) HATED the fact that I gamed. I told her I would give up my favorite hobbies if she gave up hers. For some reason, that worked, and it clicked for her. Ever since then, she's been frickin' awesome about my gaming. It's been over 12 years now. :)

I now have the PC in one of the rooms we have a TV in, so we are usually in the same room. Works out great.

Well...just preordered it from Best Buy...turned out I had a $40 coupon I had never used that expires this week (Expires today actually lol). Could not say no to that lol.

Now I can relax :)

Is this currency chart accurate, and is there any special currency for WvW? Do you get Karma or just cash from player kills?

http://i.imgur.com/VIrYg.png

Yeah, it looks to be accurate. No, it does not appear that there will be any kind of special currency for WvW. You get Karma for helping others with their Personal Storyline (plus a little from yours), Renown Hearts and Dynamic Events.

Basically, instead of questing and getting a set of static Quest Rewards, you get Karma which is then spent how you want it, whether at the Karma Vendors at each Renown Heart or those located in cities.

Enemies occasionally drop Badges of Honor in WvW when killed. I'm told you can trade these in to NPCs for equipment, but I never did figure out where.

you also get Badges of Honors based on your overall performance in WvWvW (for example, I escorted a caravan that one time and would get a single badge every 30 minutes or so for doing this). You can use these badges to buy (expensive) weapons and armor. The traders were located near the Asura gates in WvWvW.

Anyone do any combo field testing during the last BWE? I'm curious how projectile finishers calculate their chance to trigger. Like, if I throw Charged Shield through a Light field (20% chance to remove a condition on self), does that check on each target struck after picking up the combo property, or just once when the projectile enters the field?

You can trade with other players in this game? For some reason i thought they werent allowing that

Almost positive it's just when the projectile hits the field- either it's a combo or not.

I suppose it makes more sense that way. This game really needs to come out, I'm making builds and stuff even though I know release will come along in a few weeks and make a bunch of that thinking wasteful.
