Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

That is a hilariously awful recording.

Only way it could be worse is if it was shot in a barn on VHS. Oh, right, this isn't HaloGAF...

Correction: this is the Norn dance original recording.

Shouldn't have taken this long to figure out, GAF I am dissapoint.

These aren't the badass Barbarian dances I was looking for out of the Norn.

Should have been Technoviking all the way: http://youtu.be/VudJpH-ytH4

Will do. Stormbluff Isle will be the server of choice for the NA region, right? Did you guys already decide on what EU server to pick?

Edit: Do I have to use my GAF nickname when signing up on GafGuild.com?

EU server is Gandara. You don't have to sign up with your GAF name, but it makes it easier to tell who everyone is.

Fishing!!!!

Now I have an excuse to deliver my 45 minute nautical pun routine! Nice catch, for reel.

Oh no doubt, we want to avoid them at all costs. I think everyone is in agreement on that. My only fear is that they (or a similar group) will coincidentally roll on our server. But then our fearless leaders went to great lengths to pick a server that would be unlikely for that to happen, so we should be okay.

That's why we voted the way we did, so we'd have a backup server we can all agree on in case that does happen. We just won't know until launch since the major alliances aren't announcing anything until right before launch.

Good to see that the humor of the first game is still there.

Here's hoping Swedish Chef as a language makes a come back. Bork!

Who are these titan guys, why all the hate?
I guess they're some big bad pvp guild that's gonna roll over everyone?

Alliance of hardcore pvp guilds that plans on being organized to dominate in WvWvW. They have also grown it looks since the beta with even more guilds joining up. People are afraid of such large organized alliance will dominate any WvWvW they are part of. While some don't like the idea of playing with them as they feel that they will just steamroll any competition and that WvWvW won't be challenging or very fun. So you got people on both sides afraid of playing against them, and those not wanting to play alongside them.

Exactly. I don't think people are "afraid" of them. I think people are more afraid of being on the same server as them. Reason being, the WvW queue will be a constant battle. Nobody wants a guaranteed queue any time you want to WvW.

They're NA based right?
On one hand it sounds like something I'd like to be a part of but on the other no competition pretty much + queues + I'm EU.
My guild still deciding where to go, waiting on such alliances and big communities to decide where they will be so we know what to avoid or who to go with. Got like 20 people atm, all local and friends with someone inside :)

As far as I know, they're global, as it allows them to maintain a presence in WvW at all times. WvW is all they do.

Oh yeah, the only thing we're afraid of is them rolling on the same server as us and making it uninhabitable. WvW queues, bad reputation, tons of "Groupies". What a mess. No thanks.

Also, Militarized guilds can get right the hell out. Fun Guild > Work Guild > Military Guild. Apparently they're also telling people what professions to roll. Yeah, being told what to do and when to do it, that sounds like a really relaxing game.

Dances leaked

Sadly this person's PC is herp derping every single frame.

Yikes, really. I really hope it's the recording software, because I can't imagine anyone playing like that.
Aaaand the Asura win yet again.

Some guilds/alliances have said they aren't telling anyone where they're going because they don't want "Groupies". That's Titan Alliance's actual words, if I remember correctly; "Groupies". They don't want a bunch of people rolling on their server, taking up their WvW spots.

Well, if their intention with that message was to make people avoid them, I'd say they probably succeeded.

I'm actually so wary of this that, if it wasn't unthinkable, I'd suggest to hold on for a hour or two after release, until we know what server they'll actually be rolling. Of course, the need to grab desired names ASAP makes this impossible. :(

This shit exists? What even are militarized guilds?

Hes making it sound worse than it is. It's just organized group of guilds that will always be working together to try and be best at WvWvW like it was some big "military" campaign. There will always be dilution of it due to pugs and other non aligned guilds getting involved as well who will not listen or be part of said alliance. They are not forcing anyone to play certain professions, the guilds themselves are organizing themselves on what professions to take as to not have too much overlap and to promote diversity. This may sound like it's "hardcore" guild, and yea some are but the Alliance does not dictate this, the individual guilds determine this and the Alliance is many different guilds.

And really theres likely to form many similar alliances on other servers. Saying such groups are not fun is highly subjective as for many, that kind of organization is fun.

It's an exaggeration. There are some guilds that are far more strict than others. But so long as they're able to retain members, then I suppose that works for them - where from most others' perspective, it seems insane. And the Titan Alliance guilds seem to operate pretty independently in terms of how they approach their members.

NCSoft ninjas killed the video :(

How do people like greatsword Guardians? I really really want to use a greatsword on my alt.

They are awesome, They have a good damage, a good AOE skill and a jump to the target that produces blind, its pretty mobile. Its a good complement to any weapon, if you combine it with a Hammer for control and GS for damage, makes a devastating combo.

Started playing Fallout New Vegas, and it's bringing back all those same feelings I had when I was playing Fallout 3 earlier this year. That's when I got hyped for GW2 to begin with.

I'm loving F:NV, but man it's so lonely and desolate again. I've been pretty out of touch with anything GW2 related just because I've been so occupied with other games, but it's a nice surprise to know it's coming out in just a few weeks!

I love it. Not my main setup or anything, but it's nice for some situations. It has a jump, a bind with pull included and a whirlwind. I used it for big PvE battles mainly.

Anyone else find that it was more difficult to defend a keep as an Asura because you had to stand right up on the very edge of a wall to have line of sight?

Seems like a fair trade-off considering smaller characters will be targeted less during hectic WvW battles.

LOS is pretty forgiving though for walls of keeps. Once you get line of sight you can often just back up and still ableto shoot through the walls and damage your opponent. Same happens with defenders where you can shoot through walls and hit people who you can not actually see, but as long as you were able to target them beforehand. Attacks clip through walls a bit too much at times.

Yep... I'm actually happy he said that though. I was sad that I was rolling norn which is such a huge target.... but as asura you can hide around terrain etc. Glad there's an upside to being huge.

Check your PMs! :P

As for "militarized" guilds, I've run across quite a few FPS "clans" that are extremely militaristic. Reporting to commanders before being able to take ladder matches, etc. Pretty strange that people get enjoyment out of this type of setting in gaming.

Oh god, so good. I saved the video if it gets removed too.

LMAO, so good. The idea of a big Norn dancing like Carlton leaves me in tears.

Soo undecided at whether or not it's worth paying more for the digital version over DVD just for 3 days earlier access :(

I thought if you pre-purchased a copy in store, you got a code to use that will let you into the head start? You'll have to enter your retail code on release day.

Why do you want a DVD? Bandwidth?

Simply because it's cheaper! DVD for £29.99, GMG charges £49.95 for the digital version (but there's a 25% off code that takes it down to around £38 I believe).

No idea why a digital version of a game costs soo much!

You do realize this statement makes you not very different from what you are trying to condemn here, right? You are indirectly telling people how to play the game ("militarized guilds can get right the hell out") or at least judging them and/or their chosen playstyle.

If you want to take part in any kind of team-based competition - and that is what PvP is supposed to be in most MMOs (or most games involving teams playing versus teams for that matter) - you will reach a point where you absolutely need at least some kind of structure or organization. And yes, agreeing on a certain roster of classes/professions can be a part of that. After all, you probably won't win any match with 5 characters of the same class.

It's just as true for other team-based spare time activities. Like playing soccer in an amateur/"just for fun"-league. You won't find many teams, where players spontaneously decide they are being substituted in or out. Even at lower levels stuff like this is usually pretty well structured.

That does not mean the match or game can't be relaxing and only the guy calling the shots can have fun. Also, comparing the more structured guilds to military organizations is such a silly hyperbole.

What about all-Mesmer guilds with identical characters?

That would require all guildmembers to both roll a mesmer and follow very strict rules during character creation. According to this thread that would be like living in a military religious order, I guess.

Conformity, Uniformity, Common identity are some of the underlying notions and sentiments of a military. These institutions are what makes military scary. I don't think Titan is like that, however, you can't deny that they are more... "passionate" about their ambition and what they're willing to do achieve it.
