I want to give Dark Souls one last shot. Help me.

Just finished 4.2 and 4.3 in Demons Souls :), I was pretty surprised at how easy both of the fights were, the 4.2 boss just seemed to pace around and ignore me, so I could just spam magic attacks at him.

4-2 boss is blind and goes on sound, if you weren't moving much then that's probably why. :)

I am almost at the finish line! It only took me 10 complete restarts with different characters and an endless amount of four letter words directed towards blighttown but I only have
one soul to retrieve for the lordvessel and then the final boss fight.

So satisfying.

Congratulations. I was the same way whilst starting out. I cared more about gaining a thorough understanding of the game before actually beating it, so that I could play the way that I most enjoyed.

Blighttown isn't that bad if you have the Master Key and go the back way, you can skip most of it.
Very true. If you started the game with the master key, you could run straight for Blighttown and head backwards through the place without fighting any enemies. Getting to the bonfire is super easy.

What's your SL? We can
attempt
some PVP.

PS3 gamer here, psn is PAYBACK-SXE...pvp is sadly of very little interest to me, though to platinum the game I need to obtain a few things like the 100% sorceries and miracles, and I can only get those by being a spirit of vengeance.

hit me up sometime, we can get something going.

Well I'm in the middle of going through Demon's Souls and haven't played much of Dark for a little while now. Wouldn't mind jumping back in though. What Soul Level are you?

ive got 3 characters....im on new game+ on all of them...one of them in particular is pretty damn high, I'd have to check and get back to you. I am starting demon's souls too...I'd love to co-op that with someone, because I want to play it but feel a little overwhelmed by the games particular systems....

For sure.

I just had a neat moment in the game. Decided to take the chance and became human so I could run through the Undead Parish and farm items/souls until the inevitable happens: I'm invaded.

At this point I have fuck-all interest in dueling other players and will probably never invade another game. But if I had to guess I'm gonna assume this other guy won't share my views.

So I hurriedly the enemies from the steps leading up to the church and put my back to a portcullis and wait. Homer finds me.

Naturally he beelines for my newb ass. Having tried to fight other invasions I've quickly learned that people who play the game enough to invade are usually waaaay too good to have a chance against.

So I don't fight. I strafe, I jump, I block. At this point the guy probably thought I was fucking with him because he starts rolling around and tossing fireballs at me, like he thought I was going for a backstab or something. Nah son, I just want you to get bored and leave.

A couple more minutes pass before he finally puts some distance between us. I chug a quick estus to heal a nick he gave me, then I pull up the gesture menu real quick and bow. There isn't a "fuck off" gesture so I figured this might convey my intentions.

I then slowly turn my back on him and proceed up the stairs into the church where three of those armored undead are waiting. I'm expecting a blade in my back any second but surprisingly he just kind of hangs back, like he's watching. I make it upstairs and take out that spellcasting guy and then turn around to face the dude. I bow again; maybe he'll get the hint.

He drops some shit on the ground then leaves, finally. I go over and he left a pretty good sword and shield (better than mine, at least.)

I'm still kind of shocked.

I used to run into people like that in Demons Souls fairly often. Black phantoms who instead of killing you would just act as another helpful blue phantom. It was kind of a weird situation since you didn't know they weren't gonna turn around and backstab your ass at some random time, but also pretty cool because enemies wouldn't aggro on them and they could just clear shit out for you without much trouble

although i guess he did kind of try to kill you at first, but still

You sure do love your Dark Souls. But so do I! I just sent you a friend request on PSN, my character's SL is 138 so if you have anything around that area we can try some PVP.

With all your Dark Souls experience you should find Demon's a breeze earlier on in the game.

Not enough has been said about this aspect of the game.....sure none of us proponents of multiplayer can guarantee this is the norm, as it is not, but it does happen often enough that I never purposely worry about my humanity level to avoid invasions...invasions are fun, and even though I get pissed because its bad timing once in a while, and even after 1000 hours of souls I still lose more than I win, I just have fun with it and really enjoy it....its a very sad time knowing that Demon's servers are done and there will be no pvp almost tear worthy actually....sniff sniff.

what most of you DON't realize is that invaders on average are actually better players and more knowledgeable about the game overall than the gankers, who collude to farm invaders...other than intentionally invading a t a low souls level to find noobs, most invaders at HIGH level (40-120 are the GOOD guys!!!!! As soon as a respectable invader spawns you can get ganked by a host and two phantoms who know your spawn point and are just farming your souls and humanity.....pretty sick....but some of the most epic game play and rewarding game play I have ever done is to spawn, get ganked, but run away in Anor Londo and use the environment to try to stay alive despite being a t a huge disadvantage....i.e. no estus like the host, and 3 on one. MOst reward ever was getting in to the area with the titanite demon in Anor Londo and dodging and baiting long enough for the Demon to help out...one Phantom got taken down in health huge and then on e soul spear of mine finished him off, the host was not expecting me to com e out of hiding so I surprised him by coming out and soul spearing him...then just as he was dying I soul speared the other phantom who was chicken and fooling around in the other room across the hall....Igot 3 humanity and 140,000 souls....but moreover....I did it!!!!!! I got those fuckers..all 3 of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

added ya....just checked my 3 characters: 96 with 143+ hours, 116 with 73+ hours, and 90 with 40+ hours

spent lots of time and frustration doing the wrong thing, losing souls, leveling the wrong stuff on that first character.....but I love him, he started as a thief, high DEX build and is now medium stats in INT and a few others to use spells too as I worked him towards the plat...about to load up some characters and see where I am and what I was doing, joy.

Ha. That is an awesome story, dude. Here, I have a similar one: I was in B-town fighting off those annoying mosquito things when some DICKTWIST in a robe with xX's in his tag stabs me in the back for no good reason. Wait...

The multiplayer implementation in this game is undoubtedly cool, but my experiences haven't at all been like yours and I doubt they will ever be. Such is the nature of online douchebaggery. Another thing: I thought Maneater Mildred was an actual person invading, not an NPC summoned by the game. I was so chuffed when I demolished her, thinking that she was just some d-bag in B-town trying to mess with my chi, but now that I know she was just some lowly enemy; chuff gone :(.

Anyway, I'm progressing along nicely. I finished up B-town with relative ease, actually. Quelaag was a breeze thanks to my +6 Claymore and my +4 Black Knight shield and ringing that bell felt superb. I've also ascended my Murakumo to a Fire Murakumo, which certainly comes in handy (not in that fight, though).

Sen's Fortress is breaking my balls. I lost quite a bit there, but I managed to get the Covetous ring, so I might go farm some titanite in The Depths for a bit.

How does one ascent a +6 to a +7, +8 and so forth?

EDIT: Oh, it's still just large shards. I mustn't have had enough.

Hey thanks for the help before. Today I did 3.2, 3.3, 5.2, 5.3 and 1.3 in demons souls, I actually found them fairly easy over all, but now I'm stuck at that fucking dragon in 1.4, every attack I have tried (a fire blast type magic attack and arrows) doesn't hurt it, am I missing something or is there any easy way around it. I feel so close to finishing :).

I used to invade people with my character naked and the mimic chest helmet, drop a good weapon or piece of armor and then hang around them, I got a lot of confused messages for that.

Not to derail the thread but before I tackle Dark Souls, I want to give Demon's Souls another shot. I played the first area with a Knight and had a hell of a time. I get that the game is meant to be sadistic but maybe there's another build that would be more sympathetic?

I kinda want to invade with my channeler's trident now that I have one

Royal starts out a bit easier, since you start with the Soul Arrow spell. Give that a shot.

Notice that I say starts out. You can get SA pretty early anyway.

go with Royalty and abuse Soul Arrow/Ray (whichever one you start with, can't remember) early on...you can kill everything including the red eyed knights with it easily. Also there are some really good drops in the first level such as Thief Ring and Cling Ring which you should pick up, as well as Purple Flame Shield later on once the two big dragons clear out...later when you beat that level, you can go into 4-1 and grab the crescent falchion +1 which should help you out a lot

My first time through I basically used Volume's guide/build

Great stuff man, was waiting for you to meet someone contrary to the usual invasion stories =) When this sort of thing happens, it really sets the game and community above a lot of the hate and despair. The fact that there is potential for jolly douchebaggery as well as jolly cooperation just speaks volumes...

I hope you and all others jumping in have many more interesting experiences like that, as this game really has a lot to offer (online or off).

I wouldn't even give Dark Souls a chance.

you trying ban bait me arn't you?

I played my first time not too long ago with a knight. I felt the game difficulty is vastly over-blown. I didn't have much difficulty minus a few parts that weren't so difficult once I knew what I was supposed to do. Then again, in all games whether it be shooters or RPG I've always been the type to lay back and be patient and stealth - not run and gun my way through. So, maybe thats why I didnt find it to be too hard. Haven't played Dark Souls yet but it's on my list.

I keep meaning to try this game, and every time I do, I'm reminded that I basically need a walkthrough to get through it.

That kinds of turns me off it :S
You don't really need a walkthrough. A rough idea of what order you should visit the zones in and how to get to them should be enough.

Thats not true.

Dark is better about that than Demons.

Most people go the wrong way at first. Just make sure to go up the stairs into the city. If you see skeletons, go the other way. You won't have to go down there for a loooooooooooooooooooong while.

You can do the rest without a guide.

Since it appears you are going magic doing certain areas early will enable you to be a stronger player for more of the game.....I suggest a few places to go early:

3.1/3.2 - gives you lots of spice to restore mana plus you meet an NPC that will eventually be very helpful to you if you can find a way to help him. Also a special shield and sword that enhances magic defense (hard to find.) Several rings as well.

2.1 - there is a weapon you find laying around that increases magic power while you hold it in your other hand to the catalyst.

4.1. as mentioned above there is a weapon that regens your mana while holding it.

2.2 - finishing this level will give you a key boss souls that enables you to use other boss souls for weapons and magic (don't' eat that or any boss soul for souls!)

4.2 - you can boost your faith to do better miracles although faith is a different path than magic.....you can do parts of both if you wish though. also enables high count for soul farming.

enjoy...wish I were in your shoes having the opportunity to do the virgin souls experience for the first time!!! #jealousy
I kinda want to invade with my channeler's trident now that I have one

I realize its a fun weapon for a lot of reasons but as an invader does it actually increase the damage the mobs do on your enemies if you do the R2 thing? # never tested

it makes me really sad that people won't stop and think "this is really hard, is there anywhere else I can go right now?" without reading a guide... or for that matter, that anyone even tries to go forward on a path without really exploring the area they're in first. :(

Considering how hyped Dark Souls' difficulty is, people probably just assume that it's supposed to be that ball bustingly hard.

I have to disagree a tiny bit. While the game 'flows' better than Demon's in terms of level design you quickly learn in both games what you can and cannot do at the time. As long as the player doesn't get frustrated about dying.

While Demon's requires a little more guidance at the beginning Dark requires that at particular points in the middle. The abyss. A special ring for the lava pits, Bed of Chaos,
you're first encounter with the dragon is a mean surprise granted they give you a resurrection ring leading up to him
, etc.

I think there is another even in particular I want to mention but it evades me at the moment but I think those type of things you need a guide to ease the learning process. Otherwise I feel the game is paced wonderfully.

Well, I entered 4-1 and the very first enemy there made me its bitch... twice. Clearly, this is going to take some practice. ;)

Find a Club, that's the best weapon against them early on.

I've had a reasonable amount of success with magic... but honestly, I think the game was telling me to play different areas first, which I did. Flew through 1-2 and 2-1 (which was strangely easy) and then went back to 1-1 to do some item gathering. I laughed with glee as the enemies could barely touch me.

(And then died when I got overconfident.)

what ring would that be ?

Yeah, what is he talking about? You only need a ring to
walk on lava and in the abyss, and the only place where you've got "invisible platforms" you don't need either. Just look at the embers falling down from the sky or at the notes people left there.

Sorry I got it confused with the
Four Kings fight where you need this ring equipped to survive the fall
