I want to give Dark Souls one last shot. Help me.

4-2 boss is easy as hell even if you go melee only (and really this game is better if you focus on melee, offensive magic is too powerful). But do you really want a hard boss after 4-2? :)

I tried again today to pass 1.4 but I can't kill the blue dragon, so I'm stumped lol

It just has a ton of health. Grab some Kunai poison knives from graverobber blige in 4-2. Throw them until he's poisoned. Then shoot him with arrows. When the poison runs out throw more kunai and repeat. Use soul spear. If you want to speed things up you can have low health+clever rat's ring.

To get past him after he flies away the first time, run up the stairs right after he breathes fire starting from the right side. Then you can stand under his head and lock on and continue killing him, or you can just ignore him. Biorr won't do much except eventually die.

Well, I entered 4-1 and the very first enemy there made me its bitch... twice. Clearly, this is going to take some practice. ;)

I still think the beginning of 4-1 is difficult, even though i've beaten the game several times. But really if you are patient it's not that hard. Let them hit your shield, walk around them when they are recovering for a backstab. Don't aggro more than one at once

played Dark Souls last ngiht with 1 of my characters for the first time in forever...had to remember where I was and what exactly I was doing or had done already...that took some time...onto Anor Londo, should be fun...it usually is.

I didn't realize the 4-2 boss was blind until after I beat him and saw it mentioned in the wiki.

Felt so smart hiding behind my rock and jumping out when he was way on the other end of the room to shoot him in the butt a couple of times, thought the AI sucked lol.

I haven't finished it yet (I'm in 1.4) but overall I don't think Demons Souls is as difficult as some make it out.

The game itself isn't difficult, it is learning curve at the beginning that causes the most problems. I initially thought the first couple of areas (1.1 and 2.1) were hard, but that was until I figured out that magic is my friend. Most of the bosses I have managed to beat in one or two goes, I have been able to spam the magic attacks on most of them.

Yeah, its pretty easy when you abuse the shit out of magic early on. That's what I did. I imagine its a lot harder as a pure melee class though

Its a lot harder as a melee class. Magic is pretty OP in Demons Souls. They nerfed it in Dark though. No MP.

It's cruel because it's one after the other and you get increasingly less room to work with (and you NEED it because they move really fast). I think I'll come back to that level later on when I'm stronger. I'll be tackling 2-2 next...

After feeling burnt by trying to tackle Havel for what felt like forever I decided to take my business to the depths and found it to be a walk in the park.

I guess next I'll be heading to the loathed blight town and I'm scared!

Where the heck do I go in the quick way? I do have the master key.

Teachinator, if you wanna go in the back way, you need to head back to Firelink, head down the steps and elevator.

As soon as you reach New Londo, there should be another 'tower' like the one you arrived in (to your right as you step into the area full of monging out undead). Head up there, and you'll be able to open a locked gate with the master key (or usually key to New Londo ruins I think).

Head out into the Valley of Drakes, cross a small wooden bridge, and you'll soon know where you're at. Good luck!

Thanks Genius. I'm going to go to town on it as soon as my wife is done watching TV!

After reading the whole tread I decided to jump back into Dark Souls and finish it. I am currently running through Anor Londo. Wow such a great game!!

I HATE ORNSTEIN AND SMOUGH. Seriously. This is probably the first time in the game that I've felt properly challenged. Granted, I've only had around 5-10 attempts, but I'm struggling. I think my issue is that I have no ranged options.

Also, I cannot for the life of me figure out why Andre won't +7 my weapons. He has the ember and I, an abundance of shards. Is there something I'm not seeing here? I mean, should it not be exactly the same as +6-ing (which I've done), apart from the amount of large titanite needed? Confused, yo.

Just go to the giant blacksmith instead, he's in a niche to the left side of the cathedral where you fight S&O (left if you're facing the door that leads to to them) on the upper level. He sells large shards, small shards, and can upgrade to +10 as well as add lightning.

Do you keep Smough between you and Ornstein while you fight them?

If he has the ember (+7 is mid-way, so no tricky hopping between ascension and reinforcement), you have the shards, and it's still greyed-out, then
you don't have enough souls
^^;

Ha. Thanks, guys. I figured it out. I was just being a mega spud and looking for it under 'modify', rather than 'reinforce'.

So, is it imperative that I employ the help of that Knight companion to take on S&O? I've no humanity, so I've been taking them on solo due to not being bothered leaving and doing some humanity farming.

Also, how far into the game am I?

You can definitely beat them without Solaire. I was a level 45 Thief (so kind of high level, I guess) and managed it. When I killed Ornstein first, I beat them on my first try. Trying to beat Smough first, though...lol. Definitely took me quite a few tries, with me nearly pulling my hear out twice when just a sliver of health remained. You get different items depending on who you kill last, but if you don't care about that, definitely take out the Dragonslayer first. But yeah, you eventually learn their patterns and manage. I used lightning on the fatty, and delicious pyromancy on Ornstein.

As for how far you are, that would depend on which areas you did before Anor Londo. I did it relatively late, so I'm definitely in the last third or fourth of the game. There are definitely 3-4 areas and a few bosses left, though!

P.S. I keep getting blown away by the level design in this game. Simply incredible.

Engaging in jolly cooperation with Sunbro is always a good idea, but not a necessity.

Closer to the end than the beginning.

Whats your SL? How many hours are you in?

For reference, the game took me 75 hours to beat (Demons Souls took me 40).

If you have humanity it's worth noting you can summon help to take down O+S. Obviously it does take away from the experience but after you have failed for the 100th time it can get tempting.

Depending on what areas you've done so far, I'd say Anor Londo is about 40-50% through the game.

If you're out of humanity, slap down your summon sign in the bonfire room and help other players out with O&S - you get risk free experience at fighting them and 25,000 souls and 1 humanity every run. Also the rats in the Depths are good for farming humanity.

O&S is fun to do solo, but it's masochistic for a first run. A huge part of the fun of DS is co-op and invading, it's not 'cheating' to use summons for bosses, especially O&S.

beat O&S last night as well....created the golem axe...killed Lautrec, and warped back to firelink. I will probably head to Darkroot Basin now and kill Sif and make the Greatshield after and then clean out the Basin of hunters and the Hydra. After that, probably revisiting the the Asylum and defeating the demon. I think this character will become the character that collects/makes all the weapons for that trophy, I was dumb and spread that out across all my characters and as a result wasted a ton of time.

Praise The Sun

So i killed Quelag with quite a bit of help from some phantoms. Blighttown blows. I went in the back door and followed a video to the boss. The framerate is garbage the enemies are annoying. I love you you walk out of a poison laden swamp only to get smashed in the face with a giant rock.

If I had come to Blighttown from The front door I probably would have quit the game.

I always take the front door in, and I may prefer it...I get all the complaints of the area but I don't mind coming in the front door and working my way down at all. The ground floor swamp area is the worst for me without question. f those dudes with the boulders and the respawning bugs, and the swamp itself...thank got for that ring which cancels out the slow moving swamp.

Ok, I have a story to share involving two phantoms, Darkroot Garden, and jolly co-operation.

I've recently got into PvP, mostly because I joined the Darkwraith covenant. I'll be honest, I'm awful in PvP matches. Though I kept doing them because I wanted to engage in a great match.

So I decide to invade in Darkroot Garden, mostly because I've never had a match there before. I invade, and find myself in a world where the host is already engaged in battle with another phantom. So, I sit back, and let them finish first. Soon, the host finished off the phantom. We face each other, bow, and begin to fight. We're pretty much tied in battle when another phantom invades. We stop, wait for the phantom to show up, and take him on together.

The other phantom didn't like the idea, so he tried to lure the host in the middle of the forest, where all of the enemies were at. I follow the phantom, while the host stayed behind. I engaged the phantom. I thought he was going to win, since he took half of my health away via backstab. Ultimately, I emerge victorious. I walk back to the host, we bow once again, and resume our duel. Eventually, I was defeated. He bowed as I died, and I was sent back to my world.

I actually didn't mind losing. I was happy enough knowing that it was a good match, and that we each had fun.

tl;dr version: I had my very first respectable duel. It was awesome.

2.2 is maddening. It's freakin' HUGE and of course, if you die, it starts you all the way back at the beginning. I threw my controller down when I died at the very bottom of the pit with the three worms. This game can bite me.

(I did appreciate the new +1 sword I found, though. Shiny!)

I may need help taking down some of the bosses/cutting off tails, etc so i can complete my task of the weapons trophy. I usually run into the issue with priscilla and moreso with sheath. I know you wanted to get into some pvp but how does co-op sound?

Yeah sure. I'll be getting on the Triple in a little bit so I'll message you if I see you online.

Demon's Souls?

The boss there is even harder.

:O

Don't forget to bring the Ring of Flame Resistance, Steel Shield, and use a Magic Weapon like the Crescent Falchion+1 you find in 4-1, he is vulnerable to magic.

Thats how I killed that bastard!!

I'm trying out 4-1 now. The Dragon Sword +1 I found in 2-2 is making the bouncy skeleton guys there an absolute joke. That gives me much joy. ;)

Thanks for the tip, Red Liquorice. Do I need to reverse hollowing or anything in order to do that? Yet another aspect of the game that it simply does not tell you about. Bless its heart.

I think I'm just going to bail on Anor Londo for now and go do some farming. O&S is doing my head in; plus, I've not kindled the closest bonfire, so there's a bit of an agonizing trek to do.

I ascended my Claymore to a Lightning Claymore. Good move? What are O&S's weaknesses? I'm guessing that due to the lightning attacks of Ornstein, he certainly won't be affected. I might pump some materials into my Uchigatana.

Didn't you open the shortcut to the great hall with the Royal Giant Guards?

Shortcuts have been opened, but I've only kindled the second bonfire, i.e. if I want to leave with 15 Estus flasks, I have to leave said bonfire, traverse the spiral staircase of the raising/lowering tower contraption, raise it, run up the massive flight of stairs, past the guards and flying albino monsters, run up more stairs, kill a Silver Knight and run down to traverse the white light.

The third bonfire, on the other hand, is much closer and I only have to take care of two Silver Knights.

It's not that bad, but repetition exacerbates it majorly.

EDIT: So, yeah, the simple and obvious answer is to go get some tasty humanity and kindle that third bonfire. This should have been the first thing I did, but alas, I am stubborn!

I really find it beneficial to play this game in two hour bits then walk away for the rest of the day. Not sure why. I seem to progress so much faster when i play in small tight bursts. The other day I was marathoning and hit a wall with Havel. I Kept plowing at it but kept losing souls and feeling drained. The mood of the game can also be draining.

I blasted Quelag and the wolf in Dark Root. Then I put my sign down. Some guy called me in. We chilled there waiting for ohantoms to come in. He would disguise himself as a tree and they'd see me And coming running. My buddy the tree would pop up as they wailed on me and stab them in the back. Must have yanked over a 100k souls doing this and it was a ton of fun.

yeah so help out a few others by dropping your white soapstone at any of the bonfires and you will get the humanity you need!! Don't shy away from co-op mick - you're ready! Me thinks! I am embarrassed to admit that even after 1000 hours of souls I have never solo'd S and O ...I know I could and that's enough...love jolly co-op too much!

Ho ho ho, first time around the roof gargoyles took me dozens of attempts to beat. I died to them once last night on my second playthrough (lost my NG+ save), before destroying them.

Nice man! It's delusional to hope all PvP will be like this, but when it occasionally comes along, it's usually really fun and memorable.

I started a new character recently, and got invaded just through the gate next to the bonfire under the red dragon perch.

He looked like he had some decent gear, and took my summon (who had also obviously been bottomless box glitching) by surprise. Dead.

I reversed down the stairs towards the bonfire, with an undead guard chasing me. I wiggled my shield frantically in the most convincing "wait a sec!" gesture I could manage, and the invader backed off while I dealt with the mob. I heal, we both bow, and it's on!

He must have switched to his worst weapon out of sport, because I managed to survive about 5 backstabs on no more than 15VIT. We had a great little tussle in the area around the bonfire, both of us using the full extent of techniques possible.

Despite technically being killed several times over, I managed to whittle his health down to zero first, and claimed victory. The best thing about it was that I sent him a message after saying thanks for a great fight, and he replied saying that he was really touched ^^

Low level PvP is the best!

These guys are the hardest fight in the game by far I think. I beat them alone melee after so many attempts... such a rush.

Concentrate on Ornstein first, then once he keels always keep a pillar between Smough and yourself and take it slow.

try upgrading it and you'll be even happier.....

Working on it. ;) After several hours, I managed to polish off 4-1. Brilliant level design there. Now I'm back to 2-2, a level I really can't stand. Can't really use the dragon sword there (because of its fire effect) so I've switched to the weapon I picked up in 4-1, which is almost as good.

I'm actually a little scared of Dark Souls because the reviews I've read imply it's even harder and in some ways, cheaper. Demon's Souls strikes me as being difficult but (usually) fair.

I seem to progress so much faster when i play in small tight bursts. The other day I was marathoning and hit a wall with Havel. I Kept plowing at it but kept losing souls and feeling drained. The mood of the game can also be draining.

This. So much. I'm okay with grinding away at something in a game, but after a significant number of deaths at the hands of O&S, everything just felt so bleak and so lonely. I was looking at the architecture of Anor Londo and just thinking, "fuck me, this place is depressing; so empty and stark". It's a sadder landscape than the many deliberately bleak areas of the game in many ways.

And then I thought about how for every non-hostile NPC you come across, thousands bent on your death have fallen by your sword before then. And even then, it's not like the NPCs are rays of light shining into the darkness, illuminating your soul with hope and the virtues of human kindness and nobility. No, the majority of them are sarcastic assholes, pitying your very existence and chuckling sardonically as you walk away.

Somber Souls, is more like it; or maybe Somberasfuck Souls, but that might not have gone down well from a marketing point of view.

And you are correct in advising me to be a team player, 2AdEPT. I've just never been one for co-op in any game, so I've avoided, but I think it's time I made my foray.

Just booted up Dark Souls after six months of not playing it. Downloaded the update, and what the fuck? Did they nerf the Thief's roll ability? She just kind of falls on the ground now and does a slow, weak roll.

So I quit and started a Pyro just to see what they're like, and the Pyro rolls better than my Thief!!

What the fuck?

solved.
