Persona 4: Arena |OT| Midnight's Just Around The Corner

If Teddy's super is coming from behind you, double jump. If it's coming from Teddy's side, roll through it. You can probably do both and cover both options.

If you're caught getting hit by a barrel or are otherwise in-combo, then you're probably out of luck.

Hey Hito, next time we're both at ReSe, if you ever want to have a sit down with me again to teach me a anime game then I'm down this time.
No, I'm not talking about Arcana Hearts

Got a perfect in an ranked match! Gotta say I am happy since I don't play fighting games at all! Anyone know how to counter or block kanji grabs and throws?

You can't roll through Circus Bear D cause you otherwise place yourself right in it's path
That's what I said. If you're in the corner jump first to cover the from-behind strike, then roll if it's actually coming from in front of you. You don't roll to escape the version coming from behind you.

Command throws are unblockables, you just have to not get hit.

Teddie's biggest flaw though is the lack of any overheads besides his super slow All Out Attack.
I also need to get better with Kintoki-Douji.

Ah, apologies. Misread it as saying you could do either jump or roll through either.

I love going to training mode and just seeing what my characters can do against random supers like Circus Bear, or IK's like Megidolaon. Helps knowing how to avoid 'em when the time comes.

Don't do anything that hits three times out of combo, projectiles and items included.

Oh, I know what the trigger for it is, but Supers like Aki's Maziodyne can actually trigger the IK and knock Elizabeth out of it in the very first few frames of the activation since it hits the whole screen, pretty much forcing Liz to waste 100 meter. Little details like that are what I like knowing.

Hah, well, everything like that goes into matchup knowledge. Ultimately, Liz's IK is more about shutting down certain options than actually getting a KO with it.

Figures that the day I decide to try a rushdown character instead of a zoner, the first lobby I join in the day mostly uses zoners.

Yeah, I play Yukiko, so I have to respect the IK every time she reaches 100 SP. Liz and Shabrys are one of the reasons I'm trying to branch out to another character, ESPECIALLY the later since it's stuch a terrible matchup.

I'm excited to play this now that the patch is out. I wanted to use Yukiko, but I can't win with her, whereas winning with Mitsuru is like super easy for me. I think it's all that Chun play. Her A is like a ridiculously great standing MP.

Man, I ordered my Japanese copy (because my PS3 is JP) 2 weeks ago and I still don't have my copy yet. It's really frustrating.

I'm a MK fan and also a MvC3 fan. Don't like Street Fighter and have never tried KoF or BB. What are the chances I would enjoy this GAF? Or your assumptions at least from my taste in fighting games? (I also play Tekken, SC & DoA if that factors at all in 2D fighting games)

Sp00ky restreaming last night's Big Two.

I think you will fit right in if you're a Marvel player. I'm going to assume you have the reflexes to hit confirm a lot and watch out for a lot of stuff flying around the screen. The game looks fantastic, sounds great, mechanics are basic enough to grasp and four buttons. You'll fit right in.

If you like Marvel you will probably like this.

Good stuff RoeBear, Reule. That was the first time I play Labrys against anyone, you can tell I got a lot more confident in doing her stuff at the end there thanks to you two.

Oh, and whoever was it that did the Yukiko vs Naoto fight against me, leaving Yukiko at fullscreen is the LAST thing you want to do, as you just saw.

Thanks Suparstar and Xenoraven. The game seriously looks beautiful and its time I need my 2D fighter fix again. This just might be the one.

Congrats! :D

Took my Chie online for a few ranked fights. Is it just me, or do a lot of people love trying to dash through everything right now? Especially Akihiko players for some reason. Been grabbing people all day. Haven't had a really serious fight yet, but damn I need to go back and figure out how to get in better with her. Also, got my first online instant kill with her. I love it so much. Good times!

Yea, Reule was the one that was trying to shoot. We also both noticed how you got way more confident with her at the end. It was kinda like a switch you flipped.

Odd, tried out Chie and she doesn't feel right even though I usually play the standard, straightforward moveset characters like her. I think I'm going to alt S Lab instead after getting bodied by Q last night lol.

What are the chances of this game going vintage price? I'd probably buy it now if I could afford it.

Er-You mean $30? Not for a while, it just released two days ago?

Also Junpei you need to play Naoto and Akihiko against me. >_>

So I think yukiko vs Eliz is an annoying fight. I'm not sure what I would place the matchup... though I want to say eliz forces the yukiko to rush in since if yukiko does fans or persona from midscreen+ she can magneto beam to go through. If you decide to dia she can just chill and build SP meter.

Its really an annoying fight but still doable. 5.5/4.5.

A lot of eliz today and each of them had an answer for me. I only won one game out of 3 different eliz.

On the good side I still dominate the mirror match pretty well. So many yukiko's don't know how to bait attacks or rush in. Yukiko's normals aren't even that bad since both the fans and 5A are jump cancel-able on block.

edit

O and more dumb yu. Did you know you have to punish the dp in the air otherwise he can reversal super lol? Is the dive sword + or = on block? Can't seem to ever punish it.

I bet this game will have a bunch of used copies- mostly from folks who fought this would be like the RPG and don't want to play fighters period, and some from folks like me who bought the Persona hype and realizing this is a game isn't what they like in fighters.

Look around and try to buy it off a person directly.

what do you not like in persona?

I'm amazed I didn't post this.

Surprised by Teddie's story mode. Didn't expect it to be so serious at times. His nicknames are still hilarious however.

Good game, Busaiku.

I actually chose Naoto by accident, when I was going for Yu.
Even then, I have to find away to bear your Teddie. I keep get messed up by his corkscrew attack.

Would someone who hasn't played P4 enjoy this? I've played P3 but I haven't had a chance to play 4 yet. Would it ruin the story for me?

It's a direct sequel pretty much. It doesn't spoil the whole ending, but it does spoil a lot of Persona 4.

I'm quite interested in this getting this game in the near future. I am curious about the story it though.

EDIT: so it is a direct sequel, I see.

I loved P4 so I dunno how I feel about the game getting a sequel given its ending, but I'll check this game out since I like fighters and, again, loved P4.

So if I pick it up I should avoid story mode. Is there any single player mode that won't ruin it for me?

No other mode (Arcade/Score Attack/Challenge) has any real spoilers. There's some minor dialogue in Arcade mode, but it has no spoilers for either Persona 3 or Persona 4.

Is this a sequel to P4? I heard the game takes place 2 months after P4's ending. Is it a straight continuation of P4 or is it just the P4 and some P3 characters brawling without context - cause I would prefer the latter.

It is a straight continuation of Persona 4, and an indirect sequel of sorts to Persona 3 as well. There's no spoilers outside of story mode, however, if you want the brawling without context. :P

I haven't gone through it but Jeff Gerstmann from the Giantbomb said it's like a visual novel minus the erotic porn/love sim. Theres only 1 round so you'll go through it in a few hours
