I need breakfast ideas, the rotation between eggs/cereal/toast/yogurt is getting kind of tired.

Really, you can eat anything for breakfast. But maybe you just need to switch up how you prepare the foods you mentioned? obviously cereal and yogurt can't be changed, but try different things with eggs. Scrambled one day, fried another. An omelette with onions and peppers another day, poached the next. Tortilla is another awesome way to prepare eggs and it's super simple to make. You just thinly slice two or three raw potatoes and sautee them in olive oil with some onion, add salt, and when the potatoes are soft and break easily, put them three or four beaten eggs then fry it. It's generally a lunch or dinner food, but does fine as breakfast.

My eyes have been opened.

Another question; Recently re-acquired an NES and the Mario Bros./Duck Hunt bundle. I know that the light gun for NES doesn't work on LCD TVs, but for some reason it's not working on my parents' Sony WEGA Trinitron CRT.

Is it something to do with the flat screen? Because I tried it on another, much older CRT lying around the house with a convex screen and it worked fine.

Note that this is all from very vague memory.

It has to do with how the light gun detects where you shoot. It's done by displaying a square box for a few frames in place of the ducks screen when you pull the trigger. The light gun then looks whether it's lined up with the boxes and so detects if you hit one of the ducks or if you have to vent your frustation on that asshole dog.

However newer television (CRT or otherwise) don't have the response time needed to display the detection-frames quick enough for the NES to react. The NES/Zapper doesn't register the boxes because they up on the television screen too late.

If your wondering why the response time of newer TVs is worse than those old CRT brutes... Well now we have all those neat electronic and programmatic tricks to improve the image at the cost of them showing up a bit later on the screen.

So to answer the question. No, new televisions aren't compatible with the NES zapper because of how it handles the aiming.

Interesting. I wonder if it varies by brand? I've read around that some people say it works with newer CRTs.

Ah well I guess I'll just play it on the old CRT when the feeling hits, feels more fitting playing on the smaller crappy screen in a way (dat nostalgia). Really fascinating piece of technology in any case, still feels kind of magical when it works.

Another español question.

Am I understanding the difference between ser and estar correctly?

Yo soy aburrido. - I am boring (a characteristic of mine).
Yo estoy aburrido. - I am bored (how I'm feeling).

Edit: Extra question, can I do without the "yo" here?

This question might seem weird, but I was measuring my face from cheek to cheek with a ruler(don't ask), and I was wondering which measurement is right. When I am close to the mirror the measurement is less, while when I step back to where you normally would be standing with a bathroom mirror the measurement was larger. So which one would be the more accurate one?

I may be a little drunk...

So what your saying is that the distance between your cheeks, measured with a ruler and thus not subjective, is bigger the further away you are from a mirror. Either you are using the ruler wrong, are subconsiously puffing up your cheeks when standing away from the mirror or you are more than a little drunk.

Unless this cheek-width information is super important for something, can't imagine what for, I would say you should just take the average between the two measurements.

I have a strange problem with Vista..for whatever reasons System (C:) is a music folder, meaning it has those stupid artist, album and so on tags. Now I know how I change that in folders and subfolders but how do I change that in C? And D (split the HDD in two partitions) looks like a pics folder...

I know I can disable the tags but still I'd love to know why in the world vista thinks C is a music folder...

anyone any idea where I can change this?

The old US Mitsubishi Mirage models (1989-1992) are more or less identical to the European Mitsubishi Lancer models from the same era, right? So it shouldn't pose a problem for me to use an electric window regulator for a 1991 Mirage in a 1991 Lancer?

Anyone know a good and accurate translation website/App (Paid or otherwise) for Japanese that does both Kanji, the Romanization in the English Alphabet, Kana, etc ALL IN ONE. Because most I've found only translate English to Japanese Kanji with no romanization or pronunciation guide.

Do you need a passport to drive back into California from Tijuana Mexico??

people are telling me no.. others are telling me that they changed the law and now you need one even if your driving.. wtf is it?!?!?!

More Spanish.

If for example, when using "tiene" (you have) in conversation, the person being spoken to would obviously know the context.

So if I said, "Hoy tiene una cita", they would know whether I mean él, ella or usted. I assume if I were writing it the same would apply as there would be context.

If however, for arguments sake, I were to write a snippet with no context, would it be advisable to write, "Hoy tiene él una cita", "Hoy tiene ella una cita" or "Hoy tiene usted una cita"?

Edit: I'm also assuming that's the way the sentence would be structured. Maybe él, ella and usted would come before tiene?

It's not wrong to include the pronoun, it's just avoided when unnecessary. If it's unclear or there's no way to tell, include the pronoun. And it comes before unless it's a question.
Usted tiene una cita. ¿Tiene usted una cita?

Once again, thanks a lot. At this rate you're becoming my personal Spanish teacher.

Out of curiosity, what languages do you speak? Is it a hobby of yours?

French and English. I know others but wouldn't say I speak them. You really have to know a language and then also keep up your interaction with it.

It's definitely partly extra-curricular but it's just a good work and life skill.

Why can't I access gaf on my desktop which is getting wifi from a laptop via ethernet? My phone...same network can load gaf. Airport extreme router if wondering.

You know when someone uses the word "pussy" to describe someone who is cowardly? Is that term in reference to the female genitalia, or a cat as in "scaredy/fraidy cat"?

What is the post count on NeoGAF before you have "member" status anyway? I don't really post much despite having been here for a few years but I always been curious when people make the jump.

Every time I post in any thread, it appears on my subscribed list. WHY?! How do I fix it?

EDIT: Went through my settings, couldn't find a fix.

Most people prefer that!

It's under Edit Options, Subscription preferences. Do not subscribe is one of the options in the dropdown.

Curriculum vitae question here.

I'm starting university in September (as a mature student) studying Computing with Information Technology. I'm applying for a part time job in a specialists electronics store. I sort of want the fact that I'm going on to study in a field relevant to the job to be in their faces, as they mention having an interest in the products etc as qaulity they're after.

Since I haven't started at the university yet, should I list the University in my education section with my start date, or just mention in in the additional information section?

Okay, so iGoogle used to be my homepage and it's going away. They say there's several potential browser addons that could be used as a replacement but to me that's unacceptable, as I use a variety of different browsers on different PCs and don't want to keep the settings sync'ed between them.

I planned to stick it out until it was officially discontinued but they seem to have removed the link from the Classic Google page so I can no longer get to my dashboard unless I manually type /ig after the URL, which is annoying.

What's a good replacement site to use as my homepage with a similar set of features?

I live in the USA and the only place I can find Melona (the melon ice cream bar) is at an Asian market 30 minutes away from my house.

Do other major grocery stores carry Melona? Heard some rumors they did but not sure.

Facial Hair Grooming-GAF; Been using middle of the road bic disposable razors for a while but not getting as close a shave as I'd like. Any reccomendations for particularly good/affordable brands of razors (disposable or otherwise)?

Was also contemplating switching to electric, but not really sure where to begin in terms of research.

I'd go for either Gillette Mach3/Fusion or maybe something from Wilkinson Sword. It's better to spend a bit more than to end up with a scrappy shave or skin irritation.

Hey people, I wanted to ask those who have a Paypal account : are you satisfied with it ? Have you ever had problems with it ? Would you recommend me to get one or stick with my visa CC to pay ? Thanks.

I really like the Gilette Fusion razors. Yes, they look kind of ridiculous, it has a lot of blades, and a set of blades is quite expensive (though you can use it for a long time if you're like me, ie shave like once a week), but they are a real pleasure to use, and I've never cut my delicate skin with that. Anyway you won't have a close shave with an electric razor, that's for sure. There is a neogaf thread about shaving, that may be a good place to start.

I'm satisfied with PayPal, it's nice alternative payment method to have around for the times I'd rather pay from my bank account than with a CC. My only minor issue is that adding/withdrawing funds to or from a bank account takes up to 5 business days in Canada to process (although I think the wait is much shorter in the US). Haven't had any problems yet, but then again I'm new to it as well and have only made a handful of purchases/transfers.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll be taking a look through the thread for sure.
