Dumbest thing a GameStop rep ever said to you?

Dumb statements, inaccurate stuff, flat out lies, attempts to rip you off, poor treatment, anything.

Mine happened today. One of our Gamestops here just put out their Wii U promo materials and I decided to make some small talk about while I was pre-ordering NSMB 2. Boy was that a mistake:

Me: "So I see you have the Wii U promo stuff out already."

GS guy says to me with a straight face and a dead serious tone:

"Yeah, I'm still not convinced it's coming out this fall though. I'm thinking more like somewhere between December to March."

Me: "No, actually Nintendo has said a million times it's being released this fall."

GS guy: "I don't think so."

Me: "So you guys are putting out promo stuff for a system that may not release until March
2013?"

GS guy (nods uncomfortably): "Weirder things have happened."

Me: "OK. Do I need to sign for this pre-order slip?"

GS guy: "Nope."

Me (trying not to laugh): "See ya."

I was buying Risen.

I put it on the counter. The cashier guy (this was his first day) picked it up and said "This game is shit, don't buy it" and then threw it across the counter back at me. This was after he and the girl employee made fun of my friend for preordering Two Worlds 2.

I then bought it purely out of spite, then called the manager and got the asshole fired. I assume the girl was fired too since we never saw her again.

I got to say, arguing with someone at Gamestop makes you pretty lame. Being there is bad enough.

It wasn't an argument. I maintained a calm, polite tone the entire time and calling out people on stupid and inaccurate statements is the exact opposite of lame. But thanks for the only other weak troll I've experienced today besides my chat with this guy.

I had the local gamestop guy complain about how nintendo sucks for a couple minutes while I preordered a 3dsxl. Why in the world would he complain about nintendo systems to anyone, let alone someone actually preordering a nintendo system?

GS Employee: "Care to preorder any games while you're at it?"

Me: "Nope, I'm good, thanks man!"

GS Employee: "Cool, no problem. Have a great day!"

Never encountered any horror stories. I'm in, they do their job, I buy my game, and walk out.

"I will maintain my composure through this discussion in a calm and dignified manner."

"I'M SO DUMB AND GODDAMN CRAZY"

"Just to let you know you shouldn't cancel preorders because they really hurt the person who took it"

That's my problem how exactly? I couldn't believe this guy was "suggesting" what a paying customer should or should not do. I was allllmost offended.

I got asked if I wanted to buy a used copy for $2 off 4 times in 10 minutes. I wanted to just grab the game buy it and leave. Not be bombarded with how I should save money buying a used copy. Considering the game has a online pass, if I bought it used I'd have to spend more in the long run. How is that in "my best interest"? Also, why couldn't they understand "this is a gift". Not everyone likes giving used gifts. >.>

Everyone at the Gamestop stores I have been to are really nice, it's just that some can be too pushy about selling those damn cards.

@OP

It's true i heard rumors that Nintendo is already having difficulties making enough hardware units for the console's launch this fall. I also heard that the problematic component is the gamepad to be specific.

This is probably the least topic worthy thing ever said by a Gamestop employee.

It's unlikely that he'll be right, but it's still a slim possibility. Unlike the million other times that Gamestop employees just spit factually wrong information.

"Wow, looks like we've got one copy left!" Say that every time I buy a game on launch day that I didn't preorder.

Same here, When I bought Zelda OoT the clerk even got a manager who then rifled through the obviously displayed copies dramatically and then said "this once I can part with just one copy, but next time you'll have to pre-order". I then asked him what good pre ordering was if you were just going to give away someone's copy.

I had promised myself never to go there, but I had some money on a card from a while back unfortunately.

That Nintendo bought Sega and was licensing Sonic to Sony and Microsoft, thus why they were on Playstation/Xbox.

Well, this is more "in earshot", I can't remember anything particularly offensive said directly to me besides my half hearted attempt to refute that.

I met one that insisted their guesstimate date was the real release date for Diablo 3 a couple years back and that I should preorder right away if I wanted a copy.

I was also asked why I liked Pokemon because "it's a kids game" and I'm an adult. Followed by a suggestion to play the latest Call of Duty, of course. I told him Pokemon had infinitely more strategy than Call of Duty ever will and to pretty much shut up.

Haven't been in a long time but never really had any horrendous stories to tell about staff. Mostly just annoyed with the few times I was suckered into paying a new price on an opened item. Still my fault because it was always due to last minute planning on my part and not pre ordering through amazon or another online retailer before a major release.

Oddly enough when I go to GameStop, the customers are the ones that're infuriatingly stupid. I've never had any problems with employees at any of their stores, just the customers.

For a second I thought this was a post on reddit.

"The only reason there is an American dream is because the government forces the nightmare on the rest of the world."

"Make sure to pre-order or you probably won't be able to get a copy on release."

This is true for them in a lot of cases. They tend to order just enough copies to satisfy their preorders and maybe they'll have a few extra or if someone cancels they'll have some more. But they really do tend to under-order so they can push that bullshit.

Not that that stops you from getting it at another place on day 1 of course.

"we have the case but I can't find the game"

This was said to me when I was trying to buy a "new" game. Think its the last time I went to gamestop.

"We don't accept returns for multiple copies of the same game."

Yes, he said that BS to me. I was shipped/charged three copies of the same game by GS.com. So I went to return it at a retail store but he refused. I was speechless and uber pissed. I decided to go to another GS later and that dude accepted it without question. I never went back to the first store cuz apparently morons work there.

Seriously, this.

My Gamestop got one copy of Resonance of Fate when it was released. One. Damn. Copy.

I'm so glad I'm not the only who has had this happen. I canceled my Max Payne 3 preorder and was told I shouldn't because it would hurt the store. I didn't realize I was responsible for keeping GameStop afloat.

I've mostly had positive experiences at GameStop though. My problem is less with the employees and more with the shoppers.

This was pretty much my situation except it was:

"We have the game but we can't find a case. You don't mind do you?"

Also the last time I went to gamestop.

For the most part I've had nothing but good experiences at my local gamestop. The people are all really nice for the most part. Sadly they have to hire those seasonal people every year and one time I heard a guy trying to tell this older lady that the 360 could play Blu-Ray. I facepalmed and then told her that only the PS3 plays Blu_Ray. Dude acted all shocked and apologized her.

I went to pick up my pre-order copy of REVELAITONS (game only) at launch date.

GS: *quickly glances at front and back cover of the game case* It says here that a Circle Pad Pro is required to play this game.

Me: Nah, I played the demo. It's only optional. *smiled* (rofl inside)

Haha, the dude was clearly trying to get a sale on me, man. Sorry, but don't try to hit me with false information when I know my shit. I just want my damn game and get out!
[edit] Also, they ran out of the pre-order bonus RE:R 3DS cases that I was supposed to get..
