Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

I forget what it's called, (Not Second Life), but there is this game that's out now and EVERYTHING in it is player generated. they started out with blank land and planted trees, built houses, etc. Seemed cool, but when I played it, it was still way early.

Ah! found it.

Wurm Online.

Never wanted to repeatedly punch someone's mouth as much as this guy's. What the hell.

Does anyone have the items needed for
organizing Gwen's birthday celebration
in the War of Kryta questline? I know what they are, but thought I'd see if anybody has them.

indeed.

Didn't know you used mine, Piecake! That's awesome! :)

I tried something different at first with two toggles so i could map all my action buttons along with the F1-F4 skills to a face button, but man, that simply did not feel right to me. So i dropped the second toggle and made that dodge, and stuck the F1-F4 skills on the RB+dpad, which is basically your simplified one, haha

Momentous day for me, I have decided 100% to go Guardian

Now to figure out a race...

:P

this jumping puzzle is really good

Such a fun puzzle. There's some real Mega Man stuff in this game, just between this one and the jumping puzzle in the Asura starting area. I can't wait to see what kind of puzzles they have in the later zones. Using a controller really seems to help with these.

Also, they showed this in one of the videos, but in case you didn't watch the whole thing: the structure in the center is covered with mortar turrets, that WILL fire at you if you stay out in the open too long, and do a significant chunk of damage. No pressure right?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc2o5VknWE8

The sound of bullet casings hitting the floor is different depending on the floor's surface. Wow.

In addition to that, the sound effect for bullet casings is somewhat randomized, with multiple different sound effects on each surface. So much attention to detail for something 90% of the players will never notice. <3 ArenaNet

Asura...

I totally do as Asura is my favorite race by far BUT the horrible item clipping with greatsword, hammer or shield when they are on the character models back would drive me too apeshit as I play
down to either human or Sylvari
Will make either an asura engineer or thief (there is only very minor clipping with a shortbow) as my first alt

I only have 1 honeycomb. Would need to find 2 more. Oh wait, I have a cupcake as well.

Edit...and I have 1 Bog Scale Fin ... lol.

I actually like it's the same binding, but I'm biased as I use a controller and it feels more natural that way.

I've already had issues on several occasions either talking to an NPC, chopping down a tree, etc instead of reviving someone. If this happens frequently enough in Beta to grind my gears then release will be hell on me for this mechanic.

It reminds me of Bad Company 2 for consoles... "Hey - I need to disarm this MCOM station! Instead I'll just go ahead and swap kits with every dead body around the MCOM instead of disarming it!" - since the "interact" button was the same button for a multitude of actions. Why the heck do this on a PC game?

Fake Edit:
I just went on this overly-long rant about over-simplification of PC games. I chose not to post it since I believe the above example is analogous enough to get my point across.

Basically, do we have any idea just how much the trait line stat bonuses will make a difference?

the biggest stat boost come from your PvP accessories (amulet), followed by the stats you gain from trait lines, followed by armor runes. 30 points in the power trait line will increase your damage by about 25%, 30 points in precision gives you +14% crit chance, 30 points in toughness +300 armor, 30 points in health +3000 hp. In my opinion, traits are just as, if not more important than the stats they come with.

It's too easy to just go power, precision, prowess with every class.

glass-cannon builds don't really seem to be viable in sPvP currently

Isn't having to let go of the left analog stick for using utility skills a bit awkward, though?

I feel like the utility/class skills don't require as much mobility when activated as opposed to things like Weapon Swapping and enemy targeting which I almost always use while on the move.

Also playing with that setup for every MMO I have played since WoW has made me incredibly used to it. Though I will admit, I'm thinking of swapping the left mouse click to R3, make R1 another shift (ctrl?) to possibly move the utility skills to the right side and have jump share the interact/weapon swap button.

I tried two shift buttons and it realy didnt work out for me. It simply made it too confusing. I'm sure I would have gotten used to it in time, and might have given me a slightly better reaction time, but I really didnt think it was worth it since having the F1-F4 skills on the dpad was good enough for my gaming goals

Good thing I have no interest in PvP then! A durable thief might be fun though, I really like tough characters.

I was kind of thinking that would be the case, where my brain might mess things up having the same button pressed possibly do one of three things depending on where my other fingers are. Now I have something to try out during today's stress test!

Maybe it's because I can't wait for the stress test or maybe it's because I accidentally used the wrong skill the other day due to a finger slip but your comment inspired me to spend the entire test trying out different controller configs.

I'm having trouble deciding on a profession and wanted to ask about traits, unless gafguild.com is a better place to do so.

Basically, do we have any idea just how much the trait line stat bonuses will make a difference? A durable thief focusing on Shadow Arts and Acrobatics (with some of the power line) sounds very appealing but with no "heal ally" skills the compassion stat seems a bit wasted, unless it's on self heals.

The compassion stat effects all outgoing heals, including your self-heal. It's also why compassion is often tied to vitality in the trait lines. You'll need extra healing power for your self heals to not become worthless when you increase your maximum health by a lot.

Still not sure about civil clothes. I loved how Lotro did it (yeah, I kinda always refer to that game :/ ) and I'm not really digging the GW2 way.

a) Civil clothes can't (or shouldn't) be equipped outside of cities. Makes the whole "bragging"/styling part pretty much obsolete, 'cause no one will ever notice what I'm wearing.

b) Civil clothing seems not to be craftable, just buyable from the item store. That's.. dunno. I don't see a lot of reasons to buy it, together with point a)

c) there's sooo much opportunity for awesome racial civil clothing, and all the shop got was a pirate and chef outfit. Wat. I know, they will probably go all out with this after launch, but still.

I had a d), but forgot it :(

edit oh right: d) Civil clothing appearantly can't be used for transmorphing. Another point of having it in wasted. Really, I don't see any incentive to spend cash for this, and usually I'm a huge sucker for these kinds of things.

Uh dude you can turn on your town clothing anywhere you want.

But they go away when you enter combat. In LOTRO you pretty much make up an outfit (either by cosmetics only, or through a mix of armor+cosmetics) and you can wear it anywhere all the time. I think that is what he is trying to say.

I for once don't mind it the way it is. Shit like aviators doesn't belong in the game, whether it's in town or not, imo. At least it's somewhat restricted.

Hey guys, during today's hour test, I'm going to hop in Mumble to try and get everyone there to send me a piece of mail at the same time so I can record footage of (hopefully) and army of pigeons delivering messages.

I've already had issues on several occasions either talking to an NPC, chopping down a tree, etc instead of reviving someone. If this happens frequently enough in Beta to grind my gears then release will be hell on me for this mechanic.

I admit I had some issues as well, but I assumed it was because of me using a controller (since mouse users would just double click). But I'm guessing there's no mouse-bound way to revive others?

You only get one character slot though. And everything costs irl money =/

Plus perma-death never did it for me...

You have a point; with my simplified configuration I sometimes miss being able to change targets on the move (my complex one had it on L2). Swapping targets I don't have that much of an issue, as you can do it only once every several seconds anyway.

Whoa, you played WoW with a controller? How was it like?

I don't understand what the difference is with normal armor in that case, though. The fact that it gives no stats? Like WoW's dresses and such? Sorry, i just don't get what the difference is with simply having different armor sets.

Yup this. I loved to create outfits for myself, mixing regular armor and town clothing. I just don't see the point of the whole thing in GW2.

The point of it is simply that it's civil clothing. Same as in Guild Wars. It had no stats, it's just a huge bunch of medival townswear, jackets, hats and other stuff. Also similar to GW2 you have different outfit sets to equip, from which one is the actual armor outfit, but in Lotro you could just "overwrite" your armor with civil clothing.
Say you ran around in a heavy, cool looking armor, but equipped a chest town piece, and hey you had a dress with huge metal shoulder pads while still having all your regular stats. Or you could just completely switch to a full town outfit, still keeping the stats of the armor you actually have equipped.

TBH in terms of gameplay, it made way more sense than what GW2 offers with civil wardrobe.

Change of plan - this is a stress test, so I'm going to ask everyone in Mumble / maybe even this thread to just keep flooding me with mail to see if there's a cap and to see how many pigeons I can record.

Whoa, you played WoW with a controller? How was it like?
It was kind of amazing. I never felt like I was handicapped and actually felt I had an advantage over the average person when playing PvP as a Rogue. In regards to out-strafing an opponent, a controller feels so much more superior to a mouse and keyboard.

I think that's why I got used to putting skills on the dpad - in WoW I put all my long cooldown and defensive abilities to it. Same in GW1. Things are a little more complicated here as some builds might have no true defensive abilties.

Edit: Playing Neverwinter Nights as a wizard was probably the most complicated setup I ever had for a controller with a PC game. Pretty sure there was no WSAD movement.

maybe it's a good idea to point out what the official server is going to be on the first post, perhaps even nice to put the PS3 controller setup picture there including on how to set it up?

I'm guessing those 2 questions are gonna pop up a lot when the game goes live.

Crafting (Discovery), Mystic Forge and Jumping Puzzles. How did these things end up being so surprisingly awesome?

After all the backslash of when crafting was first shown, I am now 100% sure I will go cooking. It's AMAZING with the discovery pane. Most fun crafting since SWG. Very very satisfying.

Jumping Puzzles - These must be the ultimate "fuck you" to all the haters. They just didn't incorporate jumping and was done with it. It's like a big part of the PvE experience is now actual exploration in these things. I'm super impressed by these. Morgans Leap: JESUS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1wSTOuzGsM&feature=plcp

I'm surprised you feel this way. The end game armors, + racial armors + the possibilities of the dye system. I honestly feel it goes head and shoulders above any launched MMO I've tried before, and I am glad that they did not choose to focus on silly outfits which is less important. these things like town clothes are for anniversary, tournament winnings, nc soft store, and future updates and expansions. right now they need to make a game with enough diversity to not turn it into clone city, come end game. :)

It's amazing compared to what we had in GW1. I'm in awe.

Im really glad i havent spoiled ANY of the jumping puzzles for myself. The only one ive seen is the Norn one, and that was through actually playing the game.

But yea, cooking sounds awesome. I will eventually get around to it, but I think i will put that off until later since it simply takes a ton of ingredients to really get started. Id rather have a ton of them and just go to town

You can double click to interact but then you run the risk of clicking the wrong thing when things are on top of one another not to mention the extra time it takes to pick out what you want to pick out. No difference with a controller :( its one button or key to interact. I would just like an option to bind revive separately.
